Recruiting will be continued by the Company and Capt. Powell will remain in the city and carry on this work. The Jeffersonville camp is in command of Lieutenant J. Johnson while Capt I'owell is In this city. The company now has 68 enlisted men, six more being heeded to bring the organization up to war strength.

CAUSES ARREST)F HUSBAND AS SUCIfR

The cmm of George Workman, arretted Wednesday night charged with falling to register for conscription, will toe taken up before federal authorities and investigated. Workman was arrested on complaint of his wife who told the police that when they were married in June, 1916, Workman gave his age as 29 years. He lives at 706 North Seventh street, and is employed at the Grasselll Chemical company. Domestic trouble caused Mrs. Workman to make the charges.

NEW BEVERAGE APPEARS.

C-V Will Help One Get Through the 8ummer. C-V, ttie new non-intoxlcattag beverage produced by the Terre Haute Brewing company, was placed on the market Thursday. The company at its big plant at Ninth and Poplar streets lias entered into the manufacture of V the new near-beer on an extensive scale, and it will have it placed with all of its agents within a few days.

The new beverage is low in alcoholic Content, it has the bouquet and appearance of beer, and is pronounced a refreshing beverage. It is expected to take the place of beer in all "dry" territory.

It Is mad* from the highest grade Cereals, and the process was chosen after several were tried by expert chemists. 'The initial orders for C-V," said General Manager Beggs, "have exceeded all expectations, and it looks like we have something that will meet the law and still be an appetizing and wholesome beverage."

CONFERENCE ON H. C. OF L.

The Chamber of Commerce has been notified of a conference on the high Cost of living, which will be held at the Raleigh hotel, Washington. D. C-. July tO and 31. The local organisation was asked to send representatives to Jhe Conference.

Captain N. A. Powell leads Squad of Twenty-One Kecruits to JeffersonviUe Barracks.

As a. result of the recent recruiting done in this city by Capt. N. A. Powell and his party, twenty-one recruits, left at 1 o'clock Thursday afternoon for Jeffersonville, where they will Join the camp of the machine gun company of the Second Indiana regiment.

Capt. Powell received orders Monday to send all of his recruits to the cnmp of the company and the men i have been in high spirits over the prospect of getting into camp and that much nearer active service. The latest i tecruits added to the company are Privates Reed, Taylor and Stone. The Jeffersonville party will be in charge of Sergeant J. W. Boyl.

MIAMI CO. TAKES OPTIONS.

Expects to Be Hoisting Coal Near County 8eat Son. By Special Correspondent.

CLINTON, Ind., July 19.—Through Attorney Ernest Causey, the Miami Coal company has secured options on more than a thousand acres of land in Vermilion township, near Newport, and has drillers at work. The operators say if indications are favorable they will be hoisting coal from upcounty mines before the winter begins to get old.

For a good many years the residents of the county seat, made up of quiet old residents, have opposed the hamlet evoluting into a mining camp. It is reported that the best coal in the county underlies the lant° adjacent to the county seat and a big ^m is ex-^ pected.

Insurance Business Sold.

By Special Correspondent. CLINTON, Ind., July 19.—The law firm of Miller and Pike has sold the Insurance agencies and building and loan business It has been conducting and will devote all energies to the practice of law. A young man named Harry Call has taken over the two departments. Attorney Miller" has gone to Nashville, Tenn., with Mrs. Miller, who has been in poor health the past winter. The*hope is that the southern climate will restore her health.

Eight Divorces Asked.

By Special Correspondent. CLINTON, Ind., July 19.—Bight divorce cases have been filed in the Vermilion county ".ircuit court within the last ten days- A.nong the number are the suits of Mae Crumley against Lawrence Crumley, and Pearl vs. August Minett. Both wives allege cruel and inhuman treatment. Mr. Crumley, who became implicated in some questionable deals, left Clinton and his whereabouts are not known.

By Special Correspondent. CLINTON. Ind., July 19.—The attendance of the Clinton township Sunday schools for July 8 was 1,403. A special effort was made throughout the township for this day, and the beosters are much pleased with the result. It is the largest attendance throughout the township in many years.

Four Men Enter Pleas.

By Special Correspondent. CLINTON, Ind., July 19.—Four men were placed under arrest Wednesday morning, charged with conducting blind tigers. Their names are Mike Rote, Emil Komer, Nick Derbos and Matt Banko. They pleaded not guilty and their trials will be held July 31. The arrests grew out of a dance at Mosk's hall Saturday night and which continued until Sunday forenoon.
