By Special Correspondent. BRAZIL, Ind., July 19.—The picnic season is on. Thursday, August 2, the thirty-flrst annual Poland Union Sunday Bchool picnic will be held in a grove near Poland and a record attendance Is expected this year.

The annual Polanp picnic and home coming is one of the big events of the summer season and thousands ofpeojil. attend it. Hundreds of former residents from many parts of Indiana and Illinois journey back home for this bis picnic and with good weather it •will tax the little Cass township town to take care of the crowd.

The speakers will be Rev. L. O. Richmond, of Terre Haute, and Rev. «'arl H- Barnett, of this city. The Brazil Concert hand will furnish the music for the picnic and a vocal quartet will a!ao contribute to the musical program.

Another big annuar picnic is that of the Mount Zion Sunday school, which will be held in the Ira1 Huber grove, three and one-half miles east of Howling Green, and one mile west of Bonmcr station, Saturday, August 18. The Bowling Green band will render {in instrumental program during the day and various Sunday schools will sing. There will be several good speakers.

The crowning event of the summer tvill follow on Saturday, September 1, when the annual old settlers* picnic will be held at Bowling Green. This ia the biggest event of the kind in western Indiana and attracts people from many parts of the state. It is a heme coming for hundreds of former residents of Bowling Green and vicinity who make an annual pilgrimage to their old home on that date to meet all their old friends.

EX-SOLDIER ARRESTED.

Daniel Muncy Thought He Was Ineligible, and Did Not Register. By Special Correspondent.

BRAZIL, Ind., July 19-—Daniel Muncy, who resides near Perth, was arrested by Deputy United States Marshal Tighe, of Indianapolis, yesterday,

the charge of failing to register. Muncy was brought to this city and taken to the court house, where he was compelled to register with the county conscription board.

Muncy has been a soldier of the regular army, but was dishonorably discharged from the service, which makes him ineligible to join the army. On account of this situation Muncy said that he was of the opinion that he would not have to register, as he was disqualified from the service. ^luncy was released pending an investigation of the case- He has a wife and two children.

T. Scanlon Ends Sentence.

By Special Correspondent. BRAZIL, Ind., July 19.—Tommy Scanlon, local bartender and umpire, who was sentenced to i:our months in the Marlon county jail by Judge Anderson for assaulting a clay worker, finished his term yesterday, and was released after friends had paid his fine. Kriends of Scanlon expect to get him on as an umpire in the Trolley league.

BRAZIL, Ind., July W— Fred Norton, who was recently sentenced to iour months in the Marion county jail by Judge Anderson for assaulting some clay workers, is critically ill in the Marion countj* hospital with little chance for his recovery. His mother was called to Indianapolis at noon yesterday.

By Special Correspondent. BRAZIL, Ind., July 19.—John J. Mooney has been elected by Hope Council No. Y. M. I., as delegate to the annual convention of the Atlantic jurisdiction which will be held at Richmond in August.

Consults Fortune Teller, Finds $65 She Mislaid

lly Special Correspondent. BRAZIL, Ind., July 19.—Mrs. Thomas Sarchett, an aged widow of Knightsvllle, reported yesterday that her home had been burglarized and $65 taken. While the business men were raising a fund to secure blood hounds to put on the trail of- the thief, friends Mrs. Sarchett induced her to call on a colored woman well known as a fortune teller. The colored woman told Mrs. Sarchett where she would find the money at her home where she had mislaid it. Mrs. Sarchett followed directions and found her money.

TOIL OF IT-BOATS.

LONDON, July 19.—Fourteen British ships of over 1,600 tons were sunk by submarines or mines in the last week, according to the official report. Four British vessels under 1,600 tons were sunk, and eight fishihg vessels.

Dr. 'Arthur Redding, of Muncie, has the distinction of being the only animal dentist in the United States. He is in the employ of the John Robinson circus, which comes to Terre Haute for two performances Monday and spends all of his time keeping the teeth of the menagerie denizens in shape. "Although my position is a rather dangerous one at times, I Mike it and intend to keep at it until I grow too old for service," said Dr. Redding, who is in the city, the guest of his old friend, "Billy" Boyle. "After studying veterinary dentistry I set up an orftce for myself in Milton, Pa., and came very near starving to death for lack of patronage. "Then the circus came to town and with it was a leopard suffering with an ulcerated tooth. I was called to the tents and extracted the sore molar after the leopard had been securely tied. Mr. Mugivan, the owner of the show, witnessed the operation and offered me a position. I took it and have been with the show ever since. "Animal dentistry is a wonderful work to me and I enjoy it hugely. Several lions and one elephant have gold crowned teeth and I have placed amalgam filling in lots of small cavities. I look after the teeth of the animals in order to keep the brutes in good physical condition."

Dr. Redding said that the next operation will be a couple of porcelain crowns for the wombat and if said bat is feeling good the job may be done here Sunday afternoon.
