ILLINOIS STAYS.WET.
The Illinois legislature yesterday had a moment of clarity and killed the state-wide prohibition bill' and all other kindled legislation that would snatch away the personal liberty of the pftizens. This is probably an indication of.- returning sanity generally on the "liquor question. The vote was decisive, and despite the packed galleries Had such other tactics as terrified the repent legislature in this state, the nftmbers proceeded calmly and sanely to the fulfillment of their duty—that of representing the majority of the peo pie.
TlTe auction of Illinois indicates that tljere will .be a solution of the liquor question. Of course no one condones drunkenness or the abuse of liquor. Neither does anyone condone the economic and physical waste which folItivvs the abuse of liquor. Tl]e splutipn of this problem will come about, -through the encouragement
%ot
the
manufacture and use of light wines and beers and the stricter regulation and licensing of the use and distribution of heavier alcoholic beverages. ^Prohibition is one of those things lifce paper bag cooking and liquid airpower. For a "time the public blithely fc'and irresponsibly seizes upon•• these things as'a.cure-all, a something that isi going to replace every established custom, habit and method that has prevailed from the time of Father
Adam, and then it gradually sees its mistake and relinquishes them to oblivion.
A good many states and even* the national congress have admitted their Ignorance on this question by, in sheer despair, killing the entire industry and "e^iflscating property which the government itself'has encouraged for the lafet century and a quarter.

Illinois indicates that she is a commonwealth of intelligent citizens who deal with their problems as they arise, ai|d who still retain not only their selfic^ntrol, yut likewise a sense of fairness tcjl'the thousands and thousands of citizens who have spent their lives in building up their businesses. Miss O. M. asks: "I have pimples, oily skin, and suffer from constipation, headache, and. never feel strong and well. Please prescribe for me."
Answer. You should overcome-corist'-t-ation and cleanse the system ,of accumulated poisons by" taking threegrain sulperb tablets (not sulphur) for several weeks or more. These tablats are. very beneficial especially in hot weather, as they have a tendencv to cpol the blood and improve its quality.
"Fern" writes: "I have suffered with a: bad cough for some time and I am also weak and tired most of the time, which I think is due to the severe coughing. Can you give me a remedy?" -Answer: Yes, your weakness is due to the coughing, but you ahould bo well relieved by usjng the following. Get a. 2 oz. packing of essence men-tho-laxene .and make according to dilutions on the-bottle,-then take a teaoonful every hour or two until the /•cough-Is cured. MR. BOWERS CHANGES.
The Tribune wishes to be among the first to congratulate Mr. Claude G. Bowers on his new connections as editorial Writer on the Fort Wayne Jour-nal-Gazette. Too, it reluctantly relinquishes his services as its Washington correspondent. Mr. Bowers' Sunday letters have been one of the high lights of the Tribune. He has been closely read by a great following, and his keen and illuminating exposition of events at the national capitol had much to do with the course of public opinion in the field which the Tribune covers.
Mr. Bowers' occasional speeches on public matters have been as avidly read, and it will be hoped that his new connections will permit'of more of his time for public utterance.
His work for his party on the platform and in the councils of the organs ization have been so keenly appreciated t^at this week he was favorably considered for the state chairmanship, but discouraged the efforts of his friends for the reason that he wished to give his new interest all of his attention.
The Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette in its field fills a position parallel with the* Tribune in this part of the state. It closely covers a wide section of two states, it is an influential and entertaining example of itiewspaper enterprise, and it is just now to be warmly congratulated on this newest acquisition to its already capable staff.
PROPHECY COMES TRUE.
A few years ago the Rev. Dr. Fitzgerald in a letter Jo the Tribune forecasted the day when the forces of Christendom would storm the gates of Jerusalem and wrest the Holy .Land from the hands of the Turk. He ha'rdly conceived how a world war, with new and strange allies would do this, but his vifsion seems about t® materialise.
War dispatches in the Tribune yesterday said that an expedition hadcantured El Arish, and that the British were moving on.the south of Palestine,
The cradle of the Christian, faith has too Ion)? been the property pf^a race that has earned the execration of the world.
Under Turkish rule the city of Jerusalem, despite the fact that it is held sacred by- Mohammedans, Christians and Jews, has been a place of vileness. Filth, beggary and corruption are the memoires retained by Terre Haute visitors.
Yet it is far from likely that sentimental or devotional reasons would move the British government to undertake a twentieth century crusade. The motives behind the invasion of Palestine are practical. In-the first-place, a movement against Jerusalem is certain to harass the Ottomans, who would gladly give entire, attention to

Miss "Constance' aiks: "I am very •thin and bloodless and want to increase my weight about 30 poundsPlease tell me what method to pursue?"
Answer: A regular and persistent Use of three-grain hypo-nuclane tablets will usually produce an increase of weight by aiding nutrition and building up the flesh tissues. Scores of oatients have reported increases of from 10 to 40 pounds from the uso of these tablets. Full directions come with each sealed package.
"Poorly" writes: "Being past middle age and observing that my nervous system is in bad shape, I write for a prescription. I do not gain strength from my food, am w^ak, listless, forgetful, sleepless at times, tired and unable to act the part of a strong man of health, such as I was at one time."
Answer: Get from a well-stocked pharmacy a sealed tube of three-grain oadomene tablets, which are'especially made for those needing a strong, harmless, rejuvenating tonic. Astonishing and pleasing results follow and life and hope are renewed.
"Essex" writes: "What should I dc to relieve a severe case of kidney and bladder disease? Urine is dark, foul of odor, and passage is irregular, painful, etc. Have depression, fever, chills, pains like rheumatism, and soreness in region of bladder."
Answer: For such symptoms as you describe I prescribe my favorite formula under the name of balmwort tablets. This is a splendid efficacious remedy for such abnormal conditions. Begin their use as per directions on each sealed tube.
Mrs. X. asks: "My scalp Itches terribly, is. feverish and a great amount of oily dandruff is present. What is good for this?"
Answer: First shampoo the hair and then apply plain yellow minyol about once a week as per directions. This relieves the itching, overcomes the dandruff and makes the hair beautifully glossy and vigorous. Obtain :n 4 oz. jars of druggists.
NOTE: For many years Dr. Baker has been giving free advice and prescriptions to millions of peopla through the press columns, and doubtless lias helped in relieving illness and distress more than any single individual in the world's history. Thousands have written him expressions of gratitude and confidence.—rAdvertisement,

the ever growing Russo-British menace in Armenia, Persia and Mesopotamia.- Certain parts of Palestine produce large food supplies wHich are of value to Turkey and her allies. Jerusalem is a military headquarters of importance. Lastly, the conquest of Palestine would permanently remove from Egypt the danger of Turkish^ invasion, and would free the British troops now held in Egypt for service elsewhere,
A battle beneath the gates of Jerusalem is, therefore, one of the possibilities of the not distant future. And while the world will watch such a combat with an Interest measured by its sentimental rather than by its practical military value,. it may be that the result will
go
far toward fixing the
destiny of the Ottoman.. One Terre Hautean watching these events with more than ordinary interest probably is Miss Agnes Parker Moore, who was shot by a crazy sheik who -imagined she had Invaded one of the secret precincts ot a Turkish mosque.
THE ANNUAL SHIFT.'
Desk Clerk Dave Heed at police station said the other day that the number of reports on removals indicated that we are no longer a family, but that we are more like a procession. Still, moving is but another of life's adventures. It is an experience that few o^us escape, and we look forward to it with mingled feelings of joy and dread. No matttr how often the process is repeated it still marks a sort of crisis in one's affairs. For those whose pathway lead^ them to walk, with landlords and consider how the rent grows, the'experience is one of uncertainty.
One invariably wonders about the new landlord's platform 'on hot and cold water, sidewalk sweeping an« furnace tending. There is always an element of doubt about his willingness to make repairs or re-paper the dining room according to one's own ideas of good taste. There is also the chance that he will start a filibuster against allowing dogs or children mixed wltn his tenants. So if one possesses either pets or babies, or both or many of each, the case beco'mes complicated.
One can dispose of the animals easily enough, but most parents like tf have their children stay around home at least at meal time and betftime.
When the situation becomes acute and diplomatic relations are at an end, it is time to move. The pup may track mud all over the back porch in the new place, the neighbor's phonograph may rag "Poor Butterfly" into an early grave, and the occupant ot the suite across the hall may have a fine nose, for garbage can news, but at least it will be a change.
So put on your flat-heeled shoes, Zarathustra
-let's
look for a flat!
Not only our congress, but the Mexican congres has been called for April 2. It would only take a bit more to return to the ancient and honorable "Continental congress."

Pastor Says Price Must Be Paid, Evangelistic Sermon.. Rev. A. E. Monger preached at the Maple Avenue Methodist church, Wednesday night, in evangelistic services being conducted in conjunction with the city-wide campaign. Rev. Monger spoke on "The High Cost of Sinning," and the large chorus choir sang. "Sin is an act of human •will it is self assertion in disregard of God," said Rev. Monger. "In ^this attitude sin is either defiant, committed in full vie'vy of duty, or it is an attitude of indifference to any will of God. This latter is the most universal form ot sin. "No person can escpae the high cost of sinning," continued the pastor. "About tRe certainty of retribution there is perfect unanimity. It must be paid not only by the sinner but also by those within the circle of his influence. Indifference to the claims of righeousness sets iji motion a chain of causes or effects that ruin a city or a family as yeadily as the individual. We pay for our self-interest in worry, loss of character, loss of our personal selfrespect, to say nothing of material losses."
