MV OF ATONEMENT SERVICES ANNOUNCED
Rabbi Marcuson to Deliver Series of Three Sermons—Special Ceremony Arranged for Children.
The day of atonement at Temple Israel will be observed with three sermons, to be delivered by Rabbi Marcuson, and, also, with a special children's service.
Friday evening Rabbi Marcuson will deliver a sermon on "The Real Guidance" Saturday morning he will preach on "Ultimate Belief," and Saturday afternoon his subject will be ''Immortality." The special children's service will be at 3:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon and will be conducted wholly bty the children of the religious school, f. The Cay of Atonement or "Yom
Kippur," the tenth day of the month 'of Tishri, begins at sunset Friday, October 6 and ends at sunset Saturday, October 7. The thought underlying the day is expressed in the scriptural words. "On this day He will atone for you, to purify you from all your sins. •Li is a day, therefore, of reconciliation of man with his fellow-man and with
God, and comes as a climax to the holiday season which began Wednesday evening, September 27, with the New Year's day and continued through the ten days of penitence. On New Year's Day of Judgment of ordinary people, who had be^n neither completely righteous nor utterly sinful was left undecided and the opportunity was given them for repentance now the Day of Atonement provides all men with the possibility of returning to their God and of finding reconciliation with Him through prayer.
Most Solemn In Calendar. The day is the most solemn of all days in the Jewish calendar. It is passed in fasting and prayer. The whole day, is spent in the synagog. In the evening there is the service which commences with the chanting of the wellknown Kol Nidre prayer. The day proper has four services. Of these "the Mussaf or additional service contains a description of the atonement rites as practiced in the ancient days in the temple at Jerusalem and the
Neilah service is understood to be held at the time when decision is nnally made as to man's fate, and thus the Neilah prayers instead ^of having the usiial phrase, "Inscribe us in the book of life," uses the expression: "Seal us in the book of life."
According to Jewish tradition expressed in an ancient law-book, the Day bf Atonement, when spent in prayihg and repenting, will bring pardon for sins between man and God but as for the sins committeed by man against his fellow man the day cannot bring pardon until he has appeased his fellow man. This idea is the basis of the •effort always made before the Day of
Atonement to bring peace between such friends who have become estranged and are on unfriendly terms with one*another and in this way, the day will ,put the worshipper at peace not. only with his Maker, but also with his fellow mail.
CLIFFORD RETAINS TITLE.

FOi ISSUES KEEN WNKTO NATION
Continued From Page One.
again, that the basic Issues to be resolved on November 7th relate vitally to the future peace of this nation. "The stamp of Wall street, of the Interests which see through dollar marked spectacles and can think only in terms of selfishness, Is upon the opposition to Mr. Wilson. Behind that opposition have rallied many elements of widely divergent beliefs, but all united in the single thought of getting hold of'the government for their own profit and for the promotion of inJ terests which are not the public interests. "Cannon Fodder." "Those men of Wall street don't put up their money for a pig in a poke. Usually they know what they are buying and the people may rest assured that if they defeat Mr. Wilson, these men of Wall {street will make the people pay back the money with interest and maybe with their lives. "The republican leaders:' only hope for gotting good team work out of the radically antagonistic groups which make up their following—the progressives of 1912, and the tariff reactionaries, the Rooseveltians, was to confine themselves to a discreet and general discussion of the vital issues of the campaign. I do not believe that the American people will tolerate such a negative sort of campaign and I know how the American people will vote if the republican* commit themselves to the promises which are the logical implications of the attacks they have launched against the president. "I want to see the day come in American politics when there will be like honesty on both sides of national campaigns. However widely some men may disagree with some of the things that Mr. Wilson and his administration have done, no man who is both Just and. intelligent can fail to find In the ion* JJst of Wilson's achievements something of which the'conscience approves. It is revolting to observe the leadership of a one© great party contending that everything that the preeiden has done was poorly done and wrongly done. That Is demagogy, it would greatly strengthen the opposition to Mr. Wilson were Its leaders to concede that the president has done many things of & high type of statesmanship and to base their indictments of him upon the few issues on which they might hope to arouse public opinion.
Everything Not Bad.
"The country Is too prosperous and too confident of future prosperity to listen seriously when you say we are living in a fool's paradise of temporary prosperity. That is demagogy again. The country is too well pleased with, too well satisfied of the merits of the federal recerve act, the trade commission act, the tariff commission act, and the other measures by whteh the Wilson administration established the business peace to devote much time to the discussions of agitators who .contend that nothing good had been done. "One other thinf I wish to point out It is the quality of workmanship thaimay be expected from Mr. Wilson and his party colleagues In congress In the next four years, when quick decision must be mad# and sure hands will be needed. Their hands have been trained in the efficient school of experience, and even if the opposition offered men of as high a character as M!r. Wilson's own, the American people would be acting unwisely In swapping experienced public servants for less experienced ones. It has been a real inspiration for mo to talk with Mr. Wilson for several hours. I am more than ever convinced that the remarkable record of achievements which lies behind him is not accidental nor the work of an opportunist, but the normal expression of' a character truly great."
All Right fop the Inside. "Hope for Said HeadB," runs an ad vertisement.
Hope be blowed! What we want is hair.

Declare! Party Is Cleansed of the Office Seekers By Its Eeorganization.
A local organization of the Progressive Wilson league is expected to be formed in this city following the statewide organisation which was perfected at Indianapolis Monday, aocording to Dr. W. Van Valzah, who is local chairman, in a statement given out Tuesday. Dr. Van Valzah, who was a state delegate to the 191? progressive party convention at Chicago, but who left the convention when he became convinoed that it was the intention of the leaders who dominated the party to deliver it over to the republicans, announoed that he would support Woodrow Wilson for president, and made it plain that he was not among those progressives who had returned to the republican party and taken up the slogan "Anything to beat Wilson." Dr. Van Valzah said: "I am for Wilson. The reactionary crowd are in the saddle stronger than ever, just as they were in 1912 when the progressives repudiated them. I consider the only logical position for a progressive to take in this campaign

is to vote for Wilson. The fight made by the progressives was for a representative party of the people free from the domination of the bosses who represented the 'invisible government,' and that object is not attained by returning into the fold of the republican party under its present domination. Mrs, Stewart used a remedy but she did^not get permanent benefits. She got some Quaker Herb Extract which she began using.
