VEMffl COLLEGE EXPECTS BEST YEAR

Students Already Enrolled From Many States of Union As Well As Foreign Countries.

Veterinary-Burgeons are no longer Classed as "horse doctors," and it is not uncommon to see them sitting with is. !.'• on the health boards of our large cities. The graduate doctor of veterinary medicine and surgery must fcpend four years of seven months' Study, and in that time he looks into anatomy, physiology, histology, bacteriology, pathology, therapeutics and several dozen other things.

These were some of the observations made by President S. V. Ramsey of the Terre Haute Veterinary college yesterday in announcing that the college would begin its term this year with one of the largest enrollments in its eight years' history. The enrollment was early this year and students from all parts of the union and some from lands abroad will be here.

This year it has been found advisable to extend the three-year course to four years. Twenty-six freshmen for the new four-year course have been enrolled. As matriculations do not close until October 5 by government rule, it is expected that at least 40 will apply. There are already 63 enrollments in the previews class of Juniors and seniors.

This year the school has enrolled students from Puerto Rico, Philippine Islands, Arnaud and Manitoba, Canada. There are five students from Nebraska, five from Tennessee, two from North Carolina, two from Georgia, two from Maine, one from Alabama, while nearlijr states ha,ve contributed their usual quota.

This year there has been purchased "MA set up new laboratory apparatus for use in bacteriological and pathologleal research work. The United States government department of interior puts out the course and curriculum and requires that it must be thorough ljr taught in the Terre Haute school, as in all other accredited schools, for the reason .that it requires trained men for meat lnspectio nand other health departments of the government.

CLUB HOLDS CONTESTS.

By Special Correspondent. CLAY CITY, Ind., Sept. 9.—Mrs. Chaxles Hurst entertained the J. T. club Friday evening. In a guessing contest Mrs. John Middlemas won the prize, a fancy chamois. In A crocheting contest Mrs. M. S. Binger won the prize, a guest towel. In a "nigger baby' hunt Miss Flo Alley won the prize, a Skirt hanger.

A luncheon was served. The mem hers present were Mesdames Wilk Nash, George Crab tree, N. A. Freed, M. S. Burger, J. T. Gardner, Edgar Schauwecker, C. E. Baker, E. B. Kerr and Miss Flo Alley. The guests were Mesdames John Middlemas, Silas Travis, S. E. Stewart, J. W. Danhour and TVItSB TliUrene Gardner.

New Daughter Arrives.

By Special Correspondent. •. CLAY CITY, Ind., Sept. 9.—Mr. and Mrs. Guy Rucker are the proud parents of a baby girl, Rosemary, born Saturday morning, September 9, and weighing 12 pounds. Mr. and Mrs. Rucker formerly lived at Terre Haute. Mrs. Rucker was Miss Marie Barr before her marriage. Mr. Rucker is a baker.

SIXTH SCARLET FEVER CASE.

While the city health authorities are making stringent efforts to prevent a possible epidemic of scarlet fever, the sixth case in four days was reported to the health board yesterday afternoon, when it was found that Blanche Frey, nine years old, 1546 Spruce street, was suffering with the disease.

MISSIONARY FESTIVAL.

By Special Correspondent. CLAY PRAIRIE, Ind., Sept. 9.—The Lutheran congregation will hold its annual missionary festival in J. O. Roeschlein's grove one and one-half miles west of Clay Prairie, Sunday, Sept. 17. In case of tad weather the feast will be held at the church. Rev. Reitter of Terre Haute, and Rev. PohlriMLmi of Patricksburg, will assist Rev. Hauck with the services.
