Local. Men At Session Get Taste of Real Mint Julep—Sullivan to Be Next Meeting Place.
Walter Rahel, secretary, and Ross Harriott, assistant secretary of the Terre Haute Trust company, attended the meeting of Group Eight, Indiana Bankers' association, held on board the steamer John S. Hopkins, Friday, at Evansville. On a side trip to Henderson, Ky„ the party stopped for a time at the Henderson Country club, where Harriott got his first taste of real old Kentuck mint julep as they manufacture it in the blue grass state. He came back home yesterday with warm praise for the hospitality of the Kentuckians. R. W. Aiken, ol Sullivan. was elected group secretary. Next year's meeting will be neia at Sullivan.
The financiers held their meeting in the cabin of the steamer. The bankers' welcome was extended ty Henry Reis, dean of Evansville bankers, arid president of the Old State National bank Thomas R. Paxton, of Princeton, responded to the greetings and was followed by Frank J. Pitner, of LaPorte. Dr. Henry G. Hill, of Indianapolis, president of the Community Welfare league spoke on "Conservative Banking and Community Welfare," and John Anthony Grayson, of New York, followed with an interesting address.
Dinner was served aboard ship following the businesb session.
OVE TO CONVENTION. I
Perry Douglas Exploded the Motor Routes on His Trip. Perry A. Douglass with Mrs. Douglass and Mrs. William Davis, returned last evening from a motor trip to the St. Louis convention. They went by way pf the Big Four trail, through Paris, Mattoon, Litchfield and Alton, and returned by th« Yandalia trail, through East St. Louis, Vandalia, Effingham and Marshall. They left St. Louis at 6 o'clock Saturday morning, and arrived here at 6:05 last evening. He said both trailj are clay roads all the way, there being no gravel or stone roads between here and St. Louis.
They stopped two hours and a half at noon on the return trip. They averaged about twenty-five miles an hour while driving.
COURT HOUSE IMPROVEMENTS.
Industrial Bcara Recomtnends RtS pairs to Bcilers. fjr The county commissioners yesterday received a communication from the inspection department of the industrial board of Indiana regarding the con-f dition of the boilers at the heating plant for the court house and for the county poor asylum. New brick linings under the boilers in the court house heating plant were recommended together with other minor repairs, but* the old boiler at the poor asylum will have to be discarded and a new one put in.
It was stated that work would be under way on the repairs at both places before the expiration of the twenty days allowed by the state inspectors.
KEESLING DELIVERS ADDRESS.
Army Recruiting Officer to Discuss Preparedness and Summer Camps. Captain A. L. Kceslintf of the local army recruiting' station will go to Bloomingtpn, Ind, Mionday to deliver an address under the auspices of the Chamber of Oommerce ot that oity Mojiday night. Hie will speak on "National Preparedness and Summer Training Camps." Cajptain Keesling recently established a recruiting office in Bloomington.
Those who were enlisted at the local office during the last six days were Gary E. Haley, Paoli, Ind., infantry Gilbert R. Alvis, Princeton, Ind., cavalry Herbert Reep, Terre Haute, cavalry James L. Steuerwold, Center Point, Ind., cavalry.
BRINGS SUIT ON NOTES.
Woman Files Two Actions Against Oil and Coal Company. Margaret Burke yesterday afternoon filed suit in the Superior Court against the Terre Haute Oil and Coal company, John J. Shea, president, John J. Shea, Jr., and Maurice Walsh to recover $1,350, which she says is past due on notes. She also filed another suit against the Terre Haute Oil and Coal company, John J. Shea, president, John J. Shea, Sr., and John J. Shea, Jr. to collect $2,300 due on another note.
Both of the actions were brought by attorney G. I. Kisner.
RECEIVER FOR HARDWARE CO.
W. T. Gleason Put In Charge of East End (Concern. W. T. Gleason was named receiver for the hardware firm of William Klein, Harry Holler and Joseph Supps by Judge Beal in the Superior Court* yesterday evening on a petition presented by Supps. Mr. Gleason's bond was fixed at $2,000 and he was instructed to take immediate charge of the business at Thirteenth street and Wabash avenue. The action was 1-rought with the complaint that the business was not on a paying basis.
PRANKS CAUSE ARREST.
George Carnagis, 25 years oia, t?reek shoe shiner at Seventh and Wabash avenue, was arrested yesterday afternoon, charged with assaulting Roy Strade, 11 years old, 135 South Fourteenth street. The police say the youth, with others, were playing pranks.
DRY GOODS MEN MEET.
The Indiann Dry Goods Men's association adjourned its meeting Friday at Indianapolis by electing officers. Milton E. Herz of tnis city was elected secretary-treasurer o? the state association.
