ENCLOSED CARS POPULAR.
The past few years in the automobile industry has brought to light no more interesting development, than the marked trend of the motor buying public toward the enclosed car lor allyear driving.
This change augurs favorably for the growth of the electric car industry since the modern electric cur is the best type of an enclosed automobile.
According to G. L). Fairgrieve, salemanager of the Anderson Electric Car company, builders of Detroit electrics, the electric car industry lias already been greatly influenced.
He says in effect, "Never before in Iho history of our company has the sales outlook been so bright. During Hie nine years the Anderson Electric Car company lias been in the business ii has been a leader in its field. Vet .1 am frank to say that the prospects fo a big year have- never been eo promising as those we now face. "Last vea the sales of letroit. electrics far outstripped those of any other enclosed automobile—in either the electric or gasoline field. "Tnis coming season we will more :.in double last year's production, over year ago we sensed the situation and' began at once to prepare for a rush of orders when our fall selling I season opened up."

We can save you money
This advertising expres-
sion undoubtedly dates back to the beginning of barter and sale, and as a talking point is hard to beat. The only trouble about its use is that some people are impetuous and want to see the saving quick.
So far as tires are concerned, and if it is the immediate dollar right in hand that is wanted, you can beat Diamond Squeegee Tread Tires for a quick saving at the start.
BUT if it is the big saving that comes from accumulated mileage that's most inviting, we can truly save you money on Diamond Squeegee Tread Tires.

In The Motor World
for Efficiency In 100,000 Mile Run.
The grand prix has Its thrills, but devoided of certain features, no more so than with the nation-wide 10'.!,000 mile reliability run of Studebaker dealers, held last week. There were 115 entries fi!ed for the event, each dealer taking a 1916 Studebaker out of his stock to cover at least 250 miles pel' day for four consecutive days. It was a severe but convincing test of quality of steels and workmanship that, make for durability, power and speed. None of the cars were given any preparation for the mn3 beyond oiling and greasing, filling radiators and gasoline tanks.
It va: probably the most unique test ever originated by an automobile manufacturer, and that it was interesting to the general public, even to beyond the confines of the motoring world.
The San Jose, Oal.. car covered 343 miles the third day in 11 hours, with the radiator sealed, and with the car locked and sealed in high gear, the shifting lever having been removed.
The Salt Lake car ran over mountainous road? and through blinding siio-,v storms.* The totals for the four uavs show 7S1 V2 miles of mud and slushy snow 160 miles of snow storms. The car was forced to travel for 50 miles in second speed.
The Minneapolis car on one day struck a 40 mile patch of sticky gumbo, which was followed by 90 miles of slippery mud and 120 miles of gravel covered with water.
The Idaho Falls car was compelled to break a trail through 20 miles of snow six inches deep, yet averaged 10 miles to the gallon of gasoline.
The Settle car made a thousand mile non-stop run, the total running time being 31:53. The second and third days' runs were made up Mt. Rattier in rain storms.
HDTTS FOR STORING CAR.
Winter is coming! What are you going to do with your car? Kvery motorist should know that unless "he pays particular attention to the way he stores his car or the manner in which lie uses It during the winter months, he will incur a large repair expense bill.
The manufactures or Diamond tires wish to make a few recommendations to motorists, believing that if they know how to properly tike care of tiio car and Its eo.uipment they will get better service and satisfaction from Diamond products which they are using.
Those motorists who do not drive their cars during the winter months should be very careful to store the car properly. The wheels should be .lacked up and blocks set under the axles to prevent the car from slipping. Whon jacked up the tires should be removed, washed carefully and if the tread or side walls are cut they should be repaired before storing. The winter months offer an excellent opportunity to the motorist to get his car in good shape for the coming season.
If the tires are in first class condition they should 1: wrapped in dark paper which will prevent light from getting to them and then stored where there is no danger of freezing. Heat, light and cold are all enemies of rubber and the motorist who does not take tiiio precaution with his fire equipment will find that his tires have deteriorated during the winter months.
The car should be gone over carefully and cleaned, grease taken out of t.iie gears, they should be repacked and special care taken to drain the radintor. If this is not done there will be danger of freezing. Leave the Pet cocks under the radiator and engine open.

P00T MATS LATEST,
The foot mat fastened on the runring board of the automobile is the latest device seen in Terre Haute for keeping' tli*1 automobiles clean. The pad?-: are .fastened on the running boards of cars.
Another thing which you may not remember to do is to put up the ton. If it remains down during the entire winter it will set in creases and if it is stretched tight it will keep in good shape.
With the aiil or these few suggestion:-- you will be able to keep your car in first class shape through the winter months, so that it will be in good serviceable shape when warm spring days dry up the roads and you are ready to vise your automobile again. A stitch) in time now will save dollars next spring.

Publish Results of Recent Tests Made With Over Fifty-Three Maxwell Automobiles.
How much will It cost me to run my automobile? This is thfc, question the average non-motorist of moderate means is asking himself these days. There can be no general answer, declares "Pay As You Rule" Earl Jacques, the local Maxwell distributor.
Cars differ so widely and driving conditions are so diverse that none of the writers on automobile topics have dared to go on record with definite assertions.
The nearest authentic information of the kind is a summary recently prepared by the Maxwell Motor company, inc., of Detroit, in which are given the actual mileages and running
1
ex
penses of 53 cars, each of which was run for 1,000 miles in a week in as many different cities of the country.
The data from these trips, made under impartial observation, with different drivers and in different conditions, was rendered still more accurate by the fact that each car put in Its 1,000 miles in the actual service of prospective buyers.
Some Records Made.
None of these cars required replacement or repair of any eorc. None suffered accident. In every case the expenses were limited to that required for gasoline and oil. Several punctured tires were repaired at current rates. At the end of the run each ar was sold for what it would bring, the result definitely establishing the amount of depreciation incident to 1,000 miles of use—more, in all probability, than the average motorist would give a car in three months.
These Maxwell cars averaged 22.3 miles per gallon of gasoline and ian the 1,000 miles on an average of three pints of oil. In dollars and cents, the cost of all. this wide range of running figured exactly $.0051 per mile— slightly over a half a cent.
"Pay-as-Vou-Ride" Pian Increases Car Owners
"Pay as you ride." This slogan of O. Earl Jaques, agent for the Maxwell automobile, is proving a popular one. During the last few weeks Mr. Jaques has been busy netting this campaign ready and as a result his announcement of a new Vl.in (or the average man to own his own car has met with almost instantaneous success. "It is my idea t" get the Maxwell within reach of all people," said Mr. Jaques in speaking of his new plan. "The pay-as-you-ride plan is meeiiiur with unusual success and the results of our efforts have been gratifying."
The 1916 Maxwell has attracted considerable attention since its appearance in Terre Haute and the sales records -**r»f last year promise to be smashed this season.
The One Who Old the Best Job. A certain careless student in a small college suffered from obesity, and ii appears that even college professors do not love fat man. One day, ifter a particularly unsuccessful recitation in mathematics, the instructor said scornfully: "Well, Mr. Blank, you are better fed than taught." "That's right, professor," sighed the youth, subsiding heavily Into his chair "you teach rue—I feed myself."—Dayton Journal.

Visitors to Factory Find Latest Equipment At Huge Plant At Lansing.
"I suppose we Reo folk aro considered old fashioned anc! f-igvyish and all that sort of thing," said Richard H. bcott, vice president and general manager of the Keo Motor Car company, to a party of visiting engineers he was showing- through the biff 20-acre Reo plants at Lansing. "But 1 think here's something that will be entirely new even to those present."
The party stopped beside what appeared to be an electrical apparatus for testing the rear axle of an automobile. "I've seen one similar to that." said one of the engineers—"it's for testing the efficiency of the driving gears, isn't it?" "Yes," replied the Reo head, "but it does more than that. It not only tests the efficiency of the gears but discloses and locates gear noises. There are two generators instead of one. The second is to test the coasting noises— it produces an effect in the axle like that when the car is coasting down hill and driving the engine instead yf being drawn by it."
Scott Explains Machine.
''That's a new one,'' said the visitor and then for half an hour the experts listened while Mr. Scott explained the operation of this Reo device, the mission of which is to take the last sound out of an automobile, and the last sound to be considered is what the Reo folk call "coasting noises."
The Reo folk are. recognized in the industry as being the foremost in the development of new and better devices for accurate machining and accurate testing of the part and chassis of automobiles.
