Says Working With God Will Bring Reward and Cites Failure of Many ,T, to Meet Obligation.
Rev. W. H. Bast preached at the Westminster Presbyterian church Sunday on "Prepare to Meet Thy God." He said: "The text suggests the necessity of preparations required in the true and beneficial worship of God. I would especially emphasize a preparouness to meet God in public worship, for unpreparedness is the prime cause of the spirit of indifference upon the part of the majority of non-church goers. The matter of church attendance and the worship of God is secondary or entirely eliminated from the plans for Sunday. We plan for recreation, visiting, joyriding, etc., and prepare for Sunday stunts, with no thought whatever of our obligation, to God, whom we are commanded to (adore and worBhip not only Jn private, but especially in public worship in His house on the Lord's day. "Our preparedness would be helped by our individual association and walking with God. Enoch walked with God—he had this testimony that he pleased God. The consciousness that we have pleased God would go a great ways towards inducing our attendance at divine service and toward receiving an Individual audience with God In our devotion, public and private. "Working with God will bring its reward in public worship. In our reflection we review the past week's life fend conduct have we lived the life we should have lived have we worked with God in speaking to some one about their soul's Interest, etc.? If we have, like the faithful steward, we will gladly meet and report and rejoice with the Master, but if not, alas! "Too many are subject- to the will bf man, Ignoring their first obligation to God. The employe subject to the demands of his employer the merchant subject to the demands of bis ungodly customers the club man and society man subject to the demands of a giddy* frivolous and ungodly set. "The national issue before the people is 'Are We Prepared? should nbt this be the cardinal thought in the mind of all humanity are we prepared to meet God in beneficial worship?"
BRIDGE CONTRACTS LET.
Mattoon Company's Bids are cepted by Commissioners. Contracts for work on two bridges In Fayette township, Butler and Jackson Hill bridges, the bids for which were opened by the county commissioners late Saturday afternoon, were awarded to the Bresee Manufacturing company, of Mattoon, 111., Monday*. The company bid $373 on the Butler bridge and $668 on the Jackson Hill bridge, both of which were the low bids.
Other bid# which were received are by M. C. Lloyd & Son, $400 by Flnley Pigg, $395, on the Butler bridge, and on the Jackson Hill bridge, Finley Pigg, $742 M. C. Lloyd & Son, $742, and Fred W. Dreher, $69S.
No bids were received on the Cottrell bridge, in Otter Creek, which was advertised at the same time, and the county commissioners will advertise again.
COUNT* BOARD REJECTS BILLS.
Refer Them to Former Superintend' •nt of Poor Farm. Two" bills, contracted by James Barr and Dudley Weeks, former superintendent of the county poor asylum, were rejected by the county commissioners Monday morning. John Dem ber submitted a bill for $45 for services rendered as a baker at the asylum arid $32.60 at the farm. Frank Econcht submitted a bill for services as a baker and laundry man at the poor farm for $101.25. The commissioners say these bills, if they are valid, should be collected from the superintendents of the institutions as the money coverjng the services rendered has been appropriated.
