At the Movies

By Miuue O'Brien.

If Dion Bouccicault could come back 'to earth long enough to see one of nls early dramatic success, "After Dark, as a film, he would marvel at the aufv] daclty of the producers of photoplays. "After Dark," which as originally written, was very JSngllsh, with views or

The old melodrama has been Americanized as well as modernized. Yet the story as told on the screen at the Grand last night is much the same. Old SvrTom," after losing wife, home, daugh-

Iter, fortune, still has enough nerve ?-'j left to rescue the heroine and the "character old man" of the play from the murderous persecution of villians. "*Alec B. Francis, aai excellent character

Old Tom of the film. This is the part j,- once played by William A. Brady and V? by Bouccicault himself in the original /•«. •, English production. "After Dark" will vbe shown agaih today.

American today and tomorrow. Miss Ulrich is th? young woman selected by the California producer to follow Jessie Barriscaie as Launa in "The Bird of •Paradise," "Kilmeny" is the name of a beautiful gypsy who really is a long lost heiress whose kidnaping was one of the sensational mysteries of the pe«rio'd. Supporting Miss Ulrich are

William Desmond, who replaced Guy Gates Post in "The Bird of Paradise," Herbert Standing, Myrtle Stedman and Victory Bateman.

In "Lady Audley's- Secret," the Fox feature photoplay to be shown at the Grand for four days, beginning Tuesd$.y, Theda Bara plays the part of a woman who Is the victim of hereditary insanity. She marries for the second time without knowing her first husband ir alive and when confronted by "Ui&a her malady .assumes a murderous 'bent. There are some tremendous .-scenes for Mile. Bara in this play. The fttory is taken from Miss M. E. Braddon's novel, which Is still one of the best sellers of the standard works of fiction. As a play "Lady Audley's Secret" enjoyed wide popularity. It was presented by several of the emotional actresses who were contemporaneous with Clara Morris, Fanny Davenport,

Jeffreys Lewis and Lillian Lewis. The late Mrs. D. P. Bowers was one of the conspicuously successful Lady Auds- leys.

The next big features announced at the Varieties are the V. L. S. E. production of Charles Kleine's play "The District Attorney," with Dorothy Bernard and George Soule S»encer next Thursday and Friday and "The Second in Command." with Francis X. Bushman and Marguerite Snow, Sunday. This is a Quality production released On tho Metro program.

"Neptune's Daughter," the big seven reel film production in which Annette Kellermann, "the perfect woman," a to S a to a or a two-days' stay. "Nepune's Daughter" has been one of the sensational film successes of the last two seasons. Jn Detroit, for instance, it was shown

for nineteen consecutive weeks last year and when brought back this year it again drew crowded houses for several weeks. This film still is presented at fifty "cents in the larger cities.

version of a play that served the late McKee Rankin, will be shown at the Crescent today. Stewart Balrd and Justina* Wayne are the featured players.

Rosemary Thefry and Harry Myers are the stars in "My Tomboy Girl," Victor two-reel comedy drama at the Princess today. "One Beautiful Day,' an Imp drama with Frances Nelson, is another feature of today's program. "The Straight and Narrow Path," Ttalem two-reel drama. "Frederick Holmes' Ward," a Biograph, and "Street Fakers," an Essanay comedy, is the triple bill at the Varieties today.

Marie Dressier has won her suit against the Keystone company for an accounting of profllts on the film, "TilHe's Punctured Romance," and, according to her lawyers, will collect about $17,000.

Five reels of the Pavlowa film now being made in Chicago have been completed. Owing to the continued rainy weather the completion of the picture has been delayed. The film will be known as "Fenella, or the Dumb Girl of, ppr.tici."
