SULLIVAN PEOPLE IN AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT

Machine Skids and Turn? Over In Ditch Near Linton—Serious Injuries Evaded.

By Special Correspondent SULLIVAN, Ind., July 29.—While returning from Bloolnington, a party of Sullivan young people had a narrow escape when their car skidded into a ditch and turned over on its side. The accident occurred aDout four miles west of Linton. No one was seriously injured, but all were more or less scratched.

In the party were Misses Ruby Leach, of this city, and Cornelia Ogle, of Carlisle, and Lieutenant Beeson Hunt and Bayard Lang, of this city.

LOCAL TEACHER NAMED.

Qlenn Nesbit Will Instruct English In Sullivan School. •By Special Correspondent.

SULLIVAN, Ind., July 29—At a special meeting of the school board, Miss Glenn Nesbit, of this city, a graduate of De Pauw university, and who for three years has been teaching in the Chester high school at North Manchester, Ind., was chosen as teacher of English in the Sullivan high school, to fill the vacancy caused by the recent resignation of Miss Madaline Eppert, of Terre Haute. Disturbance On Train.

By Special Correspondent SULLIVAN, Ind., July 29.—On complaint of the conductor on the 9:01 west bound I. C. train, Chief of Police O. R. Rich, arrested Josephine Shields, 20, of Bloomfield, for raising a disturbance on the train. The girl was under the influence of liquor. The Shields woman was released from the .woman's prison at Indianapolis about three weeks ago, having been sent from Bloomfleld. She said she was on her way to Shelburn when arrested.

Improvements Ordered.

SULLIVAN, Ind., July 29.—Members of the street committee were instructed by the city council at Tuesday night's meeting to remove a number of trees from South Main street and to order a narrow strip of brick paving to be put in front of the post office building. An objection to the proposed sidewalk in Section street •was heard and referred to the street committee.

RECEPTION READY FOR BOOSTERS AT CLINTON

Dixie Bee Line Offioials Scheduled to Arrive At 5 O'clock—Big Program Arranged.

Ey Special Correspondent. CLINTON, Ihd., July 29.—Tho arrangements have been completed for the reception of the Dixie Bee line boosters, who are expected to arrive in this city about 5 o'clock this afternoon. A large number of autos left for Danville, 111., early Thursday In order to meet the boosters at that place. The Majestic band will be t&ken on the trip through' the countyhand they will be escorted by Vermillion county Dixie Bee line enthusiasts. At the north end of the city limits the autos will be met by the mayor and the members of the city council, the Dering band and a number of young ladies of the city who will distribute flowers and badges to the visitors. A banquet has been planned for the members of the party at the Clinton hotel at about 6 o'clock Thursday evening. The city has been decoraten with flags and bunting.

DOCTOR FILES DIVORCE.

Mrs. Mary Matthews Ewing Murray Makes Complaint. By Special Correspondent.

CLINTON, Ind., July 29.—Dr. Mary Matthews-Ewing has filed suit in the Vermillion circuit court asking for a divorce from her husband, Dr. Allen B. Murray. Mrs. Murray has always used the name of Ewing to practice medicine under. The grounds on which the complaint are filed is that the husband has failed to support the household. Dr. Murray has gone away and it is understood that the case will not be contested. The plaintiff asks that the name of Ewing be restored to her. Mrs. Mary Matthews-Ewing Murray is the daughter of the late ex-Governor Matthews.

By Special Correspondent. CLINTON, Ind., July 29.—Mrs. Levina Green, mother of Patrolman W. S. Vannoosier, is very ill at the home of her son on South Main street. She is gradually growing weaker and can only speak above a whisper at the present time. Owing to her advanced age there are no hopes for her recovery. She has been ill for thirteen weeks. *o

MOUNT VERNON COMPANY HOPES TO FIGHT MEXICO

Applications for Examinations to Enlist Continue to Increase New Order, Company I.

By Special Correspondent. MT. VERNON, 111., July 29.—The organization of the provisional company for service in Mexico has been meeting with much success. To date forty-three applicants have been secured and twenty-five expect to come in for examination within the next few days. The company will be designated as Company I, and will be a part of the provisional regiment organized in this state.

The majors have assurred Messrs. Johnson and Irvin, in charge of the enlisting, that there will undoubtedly bo a call for the company to go to Mexico. Dr. Andy Hall has charge of the examinations.

Expedition to Returp.

By Special Correspondent. MT. VERNON, 111., July 29.—Maurice Tanqiiary, of Lawrenceville, a cousin of R. J. Tanquary, of this city, has •written to relatives here to the effect that he and his expedition expect to return home during the coming winter. He is a member of the experimental expedition sent to the arctic circle two years ago by the state university.
