JITNEY DRIVERS ASK FUNDS FOR LAWYERS

Meet Tomorrow to Launch Financial Flans for Fighting Petition of

9

Traction Company.

Plans for the raising of funds to fight the traction company plan to put the jitney bus business in the hands of the state utilities commission' will be taken up at a meeting Monday morning at 9 o'clock of the members of the local Jitney drivers' union No. 168, it was announced last night.

Information obtained by Phil K. Reinbold and John Roberts, composing a committee which sought to learn the attitude of the national governing body toward the local case, encouraged the men greatly. While the national body will not finance the fight against the traction company, it has promised to lend its moral support to the local men.

At the meeting to be held tomorrow morning the jitney men will be asked to contribute to a fund to be raised to engage lawyers to appear before the commission when the hearing is called on July 22. "The strength of our organization is being tested," said President J. C. Holden. "If all of the members work in concert there is no reason why we should not win. If the public utilities commission decides that it can regulate the jitney it will be doing something against all law, as at the 'ast legislature a bill giving it jurisdiction over us was defeated."

S. Normal in Victory Over Wheel Works

Edgar I*. Morphet.

The S'tate Normal summer varsity team defeated the Standard Wheelworks squad at Parsons' field yesterday afternoon by the score of 9 to 5.

The tcachers had the upper hand from the start, in fact, they did not permit the visitors to connect for a safe hit until the sixh and kept them from scoring until the seventh.

Nichols, who started on the mound for the teachers, was in rare form during the five innings he was on the mound. He turned down the visitor! in one, tiyo, three order In every inning, and fanned six batsmen. Brown, who went in at the opening of the sixth did good work also, but was given poor support.

The teachers were banished without a hit in the first inning, but in the second, Fellmy reached ilrst on an error, stole second and scored on Flint's splendid two-base drive. Flint also advanced and scored on «en error. In the fourth Fellmy got a two-base hit, but was thrown out at the plate on Flint's single. Flint, in turn, stole second and scored on Crane's single. In the fifth, Lostutler took first when hit by McFarland, stole second, advanced on Shockel's single and both men scored on Hogue's two-t-a«e drive. Hogue also scored when Fellmy poled out a long home run drive over the center field fence. "Heinle" Knauth poled & two-hase hit in the sixth, stole third and came home when Fellmy again exploded a two-base hit. Fellmy then scored on an error.

The visitors found a weak spot In the teachers' defense In the seventh and succeeded in scoring five runs. Dooley started the rally with a single. Wisely followed suit and Fisher reached first on an error. Reek's single brought in the first run and Greenleaf was hit while at bat, forcing in the second run. The three men on bases scored on erroVs.

Fellmy did the heavy slugging for the teachers, poling out two doubles and a home run. Hogue, Flint and Knauth also secured two-base hits.
