LETTERS FROM THE PEOPLE.
Polioy Towards Jitneys. Terre Haute, Ind., July 16, 1915. Editor Tribune, City:
Dear Sir:—As the owner and driver of a Jitney car, running from Seventh and Main to Twelve Points, I am in favor of an ordinance requiring the owner of each Jitney car to pay the city of Terre Haute an annual license of $50 per car. With at least one hundred Jitneys in Terre Haute, this would make a nice little sum to put Into the street repair fund.
I would also be glad to have an ordinance to compel the owner of each Jitney car or bus to take out a $2,000 public liability insurance policy to protect against any possible injury of any person, due to carelessness or negligence on the part of any jitney driver.
I am sure this would solve the jitnay problem, and it would not be necessary for the utility commissioners to attempt to regulate the business that should be regulated by a city ordinance. fours truly,
ask if I or any

Editor of the Tribune—I see that Mr. J. C. Holden says that he does not expect the state public utilities commission to rule against the jitneyowners for the reason that it would not be fair. Still it would J3e perfectly fair for the jitneys to us& the streets after the property owners and the street car company pays for paving

who wonld be responsible? Mr. Holden says that the jitneys only use Seventh and "Wabash avenue. What of the other nice streets that the jitneys operate on and we all know they do. I am neither for or against the jitneys, but they certainly should be taxed and there should be some sort of liability to protect all who use them.
