A Tribune correspondent writes In: "I notice what the Tribune had to say of the discourtesy of the South Seventh street conductor to the man •••who pulled the bell strpp to let himself off the car. All conductors are riot that way. I will enter Conductor fro. }8 on the South Seventeenth street ear line in a contest In the Tribune fpr the most courteous street railway •taploy. E, V. G."
One of the largest railway companies In the country has started a campaign for courtesy among its employes. The men In official charge of the itystem want their associates who meet the public, to understand more fully the commercial value of a smile #jsd trade value of politeness"'
Every line of employment dealing •with the publio has its exasperating features and its troublesome situations. The public is ever in a hurry, requires a certain degree of helpful Attention, but usually is appreciative of courteous assistance and timely suggestion.
A salesman, whether of commodities, transportation or service of any nature, who Invents his transactions with courteous consideration, ha* learned the true way of advancement for him' .self by making his services more valuable to his employer.
If the employe who meets the publio can make the individual feel his trade is wanted, his patronage appreciated qnd that the seller is anx:ous to meet the wishes of the buyer, he has established trade on an enduring basis, made the customer one likely to prove permanent and added to tfie assets of his employer.
Railway men in touqh with the publio are, as a rule, cdurteous and attentive. It is the exception that onefinds discourtesy among them. But

REAL TEMPERANCE.
President Hadley, of Yale, delivered a homely injunction to the students of the university who were awarded sheepskins last, week and who ventured forth to meet the world. Its sentiment is so scarce in present day events, these sentences stand out like a gem In a flood-tide of adjvice to June grad«• uates. The noted educator said: 'It is easy to repeat things that other people are saying and to fall In with public prejudices and mlsjudgments. It is hard to look facts fairly in the face and to demand that other people shoul^ do the same thing. But the man who can accomplish this is the real leader. He may be unpopular for the moment, but in the long run he is trusted. Of all the Christian virtues, intelligent self-control—temperance in the broad and ancient sense—Is the one which America needs most in the conduct of its affairs."
TWICE IN THE 8AME PLACE.
A recent bulletin from a government Investigator once more indicates that "It 1s only the fool who cannot change bis n*ind." Until recently the lightning rod, with a good many people, has been a Joke, and the investor in such "contraption" was usually considered fair game for the perpetual motion machine promoters and the like. But along comas the government bulletin and says that about one-third of the losses of tturm bqildings by fire are due to lightning. Where such buildings are properly rodded, the danger of being struck by lightning is only one-tenth as great as in the case of an equal number of farm buildings not rodded.
In other words, actual experience of various insurance companies for a period of years past has furnished proof that proper rodding so reduces the risk of flre from lightning, that an increasing number of insurance companies now make a lower rate for Insurance on rodded buildings t^an for writing a policy on farm buildings that are not rodded.
This reduction In rates varies from 5 to 10 per cent find sometimes even more. Over 100 farm mutual insurance companies with more than 400,000 buildings insured did not lose one building or have one damaged by lightning that was equipped with a lightning rod.
Before the lower rat® of insurance will he quoted, the Insurance companies, and underwriters' laboratories must be satisfied by careful inspection, that the rods used are so put up, of such quality and so Insulated, as to be of merit
Thus another good, old reliable and favorite joke Is tak*n out of general circulation.

—now comes the real suit event of the year
Timely as the calendar—that's what you'll say when you see this remarkable offer of three-piece suite for men and young men, the highest class lines in America, in which we've made the most generous price reductions you've been privileged to enjoy for many a year. Last minute styles, sizes for every man fabrics, patterns and shades without number. All in all, an event which is easily armreciable. in which our greater value-giving is sui'c to be appreciated.
Here's the money-saving, satisfaction-giving story in a nutshell:
Patients having once used "An-Uric" at the Institution have repeatedly sent back for more. Such a demand ba3 been created that Doctor Plerco has
travelers have been placed by the war operations abroad has Induced more travel at home, and the year will likely exceed for several seasons past the volume of passenger traffic. Although neutrals have the undoubted right to trajvel anywhere upon the high seas, and although a visit to any one of the belligerent countries would be of peculiar interest, now is the time to confine one's travel to native land or some other part of 'the world than Europe. Notwithstanding warnings issued by the state department to check transAtlantic travel, it has steadily increased the last few months. The result has been that tourists without passports have suffered great hardships, and this has prompted Ambassador Page to communicate with the state department at Washington urging that only those Americans who have imperative business shall go abroad during the war. Formerly port oflloers in England were disposed to deal leniently with those lacking papers to identify their nationality and business, but recently many Americans without the necessary papers have not been allowed to land. AU such cases hajve to be referred to the home office at London before permission to land and proceed to one's destination is given. The administration does not plan any legal or compulsory restraint upon foreign travel, but when one considers the l^asards that now attend travel from, to, and in Europe, it is evidently no time to go abroad for pleasure.'

No More Weak Kidneys, Backache, Rheumatism
New Speoifio Soon to be Brought to erre Haute, Says Letter.
Dear Mr. Editor—Just lately, I am told and I beg to inform our leaders, that the famous Dr. Pleroe, of whose medicines and Surgical Institution in Buffalo, New Tork, we have heard fcr years, has added to his popularity by assenting to put before the American people, "An-Urlc." This prescription is adapted especially for kidney complaints and diseases arising from disorders of the kidneys and bladder, such as backache, weak back, rheumatism, dropsy, congestion of the kidneys, inflammation of the bladder, scalding urine and urinary troubles. The physicians and specialists at Dr. Pierce's great Institution have thoroughly tested this presoription and have been with one aocord successful In eradicating these troubles, andf In most cases absolutely aurlng the diseased kidneys.
decided to put "An-Uric" in the drug stores of this country, in a ready-to-use form, it will be their on-a lault if the public does not take advantage of this wonderful remedy.
I know of one or two leading druggists here who have managed to procure a supply of "An-Urio" for their anxious customers in and around this locality.
I have used "An-Uric" and believe it to be the greatest of kidney medicines and I have tried many, a lew doses wl}l convince, I feel certain.
A FIRM BELIEVER.
Simply ask for Doctor Pierce's AnUric Tablets. There can be no lmlta, tion. Every package of An-Urio Is sure to be Dr. Pierce's. You will find the signature on the package just as you do on Dr. Pierce's Favorite Prescription, the ever-famous friend to ailing women, and Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery, proven by years to be the greatest general tonic and reconstructor for any one.
