CAUSES BIG RUPTURE

Paris Minister Resigns Bather Than Become Victim of Political Trick.

By Special Correspondent PARIS, 111., June 23.—The resignation of Rev. F. H. King from the pastorate of the United Brethren church of this city haa caused a rupture In ministerial as well as political circles. Rev. King was one of the strong supporters of the commission form of government and during that campaign is said to have gained the ,111 will of some of the members of his congregation. These political enemies at once laid plans to dispose of him and when delegates were selected by the congregation for the next conference, the Bo-called standpatters were chosen to represent the local church. Realizing that he was about to be made the victim of a political trick Rev. King, who had previously received a call from the Oklahoma City, Olila., church, accepted the pastorate there at a big Increase in salary. Monday evening King asked the board to hold a special session and then presented his resignation. He will deliver his last sermon Sunday. King has been connected with the local church for four years.

Arrest Photo Actor.

By Special Correspondent, PARIS, 111., June 23.—Alden Turner, an employe of the International Contest company, of Chicago, which concern has been operating in the city for several weeks putting on a photoplay contest, was arrested last evening. The arrest was made at the instance of the authorities of Oakdale, Oklahoma, where Turner is charged with grand larceny. A detective from that city has been in Paris for several days looking for a man, who Is said to have been the main "squeeze" In what is termed a bunco game by the fortune tolling route.

Board Awards Contracts.

By Special Correspondent. PARIS, 111., June 23.—The county board has awarded the contract for the installation of new awnings for the court house to the Jones Dry Goods company of this city. The Arm made the lowest and best bid for the work, and among the bidders were two Terre Haute contractors. At the same time the board awarded the contract for the re-wlring of the court house to O. L. Nuckles, of this city.

Council Asks Bids.

By Special Correspondent. PARIS, 111., June 23.—The city council today caused advertisements to be placed asking bids for the construction of a large filtration plant in connection with the new water system which is now In course of construction. The bids will be opened July 22 And the specifications call for a plant sufficient to filter 1,500,000 gallons of waiter every twenty-four hours.

By Special Correspondent. PARIS, 111., June 23.—J. W. Kinser, of Terre Haut$, Who, with George R. Grimes, of that city, has the contract for the concrete work In connection with the new reservoir, has a large force of men at work on the new dam.

Judge Rawley to Consider Suit Against Wolfe Estate —Grants Woman Divorce. .3=0'

By Special Correspondent. BRAZIL, Ind., June 23.—The suit of John Klingler, as trustee for the Brazil Factory club, against the estate of Luther Wolfe, to collect for a lot sold to the deceased, was tried in the circuit court this morning and taken under advisement.

Judge Rawley heard the evidence in the suit of Gertrude Kress against William Kress this morning and granted the plaintiff a divorce.

The trial of John W. Fairbanks, son of the bead of the Fairbank's Steam Shovel company, of Marion, O.. on^the charge- of uttering a fraudulent check for $200 is set for hearing the circuit court tomorrow.

.Burglars Busy at Brazil. By Special Correspondent. BRAZIL, Ind., June

28.—Burglars

paid another visit to Brazil last night, breaking into two west-end business houses. Sanders& Mooney's clothing store was entered and a quantity of jewelry taken, but the owners have been unable to discover any clothing missing.

In the West End pharmacy, which the burglars also vliited, about two dollars in change was taken from the cash register. Entrance was gained to both stores by rear windows. The police have been unable to find any clews.

The contest will be open to all who desire to enter and six young women have already been nominated.

White Plague Claims Victim. By Special Correspondent. BRAZIL, Ind., June 23.—Mrs. Sarah Olive Branson died at the home of her father, Jacob Ames, near Bridgeton yesterday of tuberculosis, aged 37 years. The husband died of the »ame disease seven years ago. One son, the parents, five slaters and a brother survive. The funeral w|ll be held Thursday morning.

Distribute Chautauqua Tickets. By Special Correspondent. BRAZIL, Ind., June 23.—B. M. Robinson, secretary of the Brazil Chautauqua association, received the season tickets for this year's Chautauqua this morning and is distributing them to those who pledged to take tickets. The chautauqua will open on August 24, and will continue'for eight days.

CLAY CITY, Ind., June 23.—Mrs. Lizzie Kress, jj|£Marte, fell from a cherry tree jCsterday while picking cherries and broke her hip. Mrs. Kress is advanced In years and the accident will probably prove serious.
