BAD WITH WRITERS
Grand Rapids Soribe "Bawls Out" Green, While Dayton Correspondent Baps Daly.
FT. WAYNE, Ind., June 4.—Sport •writers at Grand Rapids and Dayton eit up nights figuring out new fgures Of epeeeh in which to describe tho Central etaff of umpires. Both these towns seem to be pretty thoroughly ciisgusted with the indicator men this year, and ere hopeful that there will be some new ones.
The Grand Rapids News in discussing Unips Greene and his recont encounter with Manager Eesick, arises to remark: "There were eeveral other errors on .his part and they but bore out a statement in these columns some time ago that the Central league staff of umpireB, with the exception of Bierhalter, Is poor, or worse than that. "President Heilbroner today lndeftn Itely suspended Manager Esslck. The euspeneion undoubtedly will not b© of yiure than three days. "The suspension appears peculiar In that when Curley Blount had hla recont run-in with Umpire Pietz, ileilbronor •••as in the stand. Curloy drew a cou pie of aays and no fine. "While assaulting of umpires la not condoned, it really Is time Grand RapIds' team leaders and players awoke and assorted their rights. Things have been let slide for several years and but a tew 'jeepes' heard."
A«/d Then at Dajlon.
The Dayton Dally News Is co strained to whisper: "There Is one thingr certain. Umpire Daly, who Is taking Pletz's place while the latter is on a leave of absence, owing to illness, runs the ball game which he Is officiating. In the first inning of play 'Pop' Schrlver was coaching at third, and unless one waa real close to him he couldn't tell whether he or Jimmy Jones was playing third. Manager Compton trotted out to Daly with the request that he make Schrlver Btay Within the bounds, but the arbiter turned a deaf ear to Jack's words. As the Vet manager became duly insistent upon his demands, Daly chased him to the tench with a few harsh words ringing in the oars of our leader. It does seem that when Jack was in the absolutely right, Daly should have at least given him a reasonable consider atlon."

Normal Plays Quaker Horde on Saturday
The State Normal baseball squad Is scheduled to play the Barlham team Saturday afternoon at 2:30, at Parsons field.
The game Is the first for the Teachers since they were defeated by the Wabash team on the local grounds, two weeks ago. Most of the time since that game the grounds have been too wet for even practice work, and the men were forced to take their exercise In the gymnasium at basket and volley bail. However, the bright sunshine of the Inst few days has dried the grounds rapidly and the diamond is expected to be In good shape for tomorrow's game. The men have practiced faithfully and are rapidly getting lnlo trim again.
The Quakers havo made a good showing on the diamond thin season, but have been unlucky at times arid have lost several close games. The Teachers have a lead over them In tho matter of games won and hope to increase this lead by coptplng the game tomorrow.
Many baseball fans were enrolled for the second spring term and these, added to enthusiasts who were previously in fchool, should result in a recordbreaking crowd.
The Teachers will probably use the following lineup: Holt, catch Crlm or Fortner, pitch Priedman, first base Musselnian, second base: Knauth, thlid 1)HHO lfellmy or Lostutter, shortstop: Flint, left field: Btiyh, centor field, and Hogue, right field.

CUT FOR BALL PLAYERS.
CHICAGO, Jivne 4.—Ball players of the Western league must sutmit to another general redaction of salaries or operations will be suspended for the rest of the season if the permission of the National Association of Minor Leagues can be gained, according to a statement last night by Norris L. (Tip) O'Neill, president of the league.
O'Neill has put the question up to the players, fie said: "If there is a general disposition on the part of the men to take a cut—one that will enable us to continue on an even working basis without further heavy financial loss to the club owners—the league will continue to play out its schedule of games."
