RETURN TO GOSPEL

tfon Says Church Has Tried Every Other Way to Build Up Work, But Failed.

J/VON EPIGRAMS.

91 any a first claw hn*lnes« man la only a fourth dau Christian. Yon can curse m« na much ns yon please but if you snore I'll throw a book at you.

It's it great thing to be a pillar la the church but doiit be a Mleeper. If the devil Is dead, he's lett a lot of orphans.

The greatest hindrance to any revival meeting in a city Is not the I saloonkeepers and bartenders, it's the dlslieliver in the church. .Opinions are things you hold while convictions hold you.

Terre Haute will never he the same after this campaign.

Prayers for the convicted men held in the Leavenworth prison and their families were offered Tuesday night by the Rev. Milford H. Lyon at the tabernacle. The Rev. Mr. Lyon spoko on "The Xew, Old Christianity." The song service was led by Mr. Jones. It was announced that next Monday an automobile campaign will be made in the territory surrounding Terre Haute The Rev. Mr. Lyon spoke as follows Tuesday nigrht: "But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unti my self, so that I might finish my course svith joy, and the ministry wnich have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God. "The Apostle Paul had just finished -lis third evangelistic tour. He had •ome to Milatus and had sent up to Sphesus for the officers of the church 9 come to meet him for a last con 'erence. During this visit the Eoheslan Mends endeavored to persuade him rom going up to Jerusalem, for they •aid, Paul as you have been going -bout the country, in your evangelistic vork, you have spoken so plainly and •otatedly that you have aroused bitter ipposition and made many enemies .'ho are threatening your life. The enter of this opposition is at Jerusasm. If you go there the chances are hey will kill you. Paul repied, 'The loy Spirit bears witness in every city aying that bonds and afflictions bide me.' Then came ringing out the "ords of our text, "But none of these lings move me, neither count I my fe dear unto myself.' Paul stands rth as a type of the early Chrisans, the Christianity of the first sntury.

Urges Similar Spirit.

"Oh, that we might see a similar 5lrit in our own day! The greatest 3ed of the church Is a baptism enthusiasm. By enthusiasm ean nothing temporary or sensationnothing that like a skyrocket goes 3 with a great 'swish' then comes )wn a dry, dead stick, nothing of the omentary brilliance of the skyrocket meteor, but rather the steadfast lining of the sun. Many a first-class asiness men is only a fourth-class hristian. In politics and finance^ he full of life and energy, but in his jligion he is dull and listless and sad. Many society women will flutwith excitement all the afternoon nd half the night over bridge, whist five hundred, and if she ever goes prayer meeting, she will sit as umto as an oyster. "Any system of education in school, cllege or seminary that takes the life nd fire out of the student or the »reacher Is worse than a failure. If preacher cannot throw his whole leart and soul into a sermon, he had etter go back in a corner and sit lown. "Many seem to think that if we can

Constipation a Penalty of Age

Nothing is so essential to health in advancing age as keeping: the bowels open. It makes one feel younger and fresher and forestalls colds, piles, fevers and other dependent ills.

Cathartics and purgatives are violent and drastic in action and should be avoided. A mild, effective laxatlve-tonlc, recommended by physicians and thousands who h«\ve used it, is the combination of siirtple herbs with pepsin sold by druggists everywhere under the name of Dr. Caldwell's Syrup Pepsin. The price Is fifty cents and one dollar a bottle. For a free trial bottle write to Dr. W. B. Caldwell, 452 Washington St.. Monticello, 111.

make the church just like the world then all the world will flock into membership with the church. Never was there made a greater mistake. The higher the standard of the college, the stricter the requirements for entrance. It ought to be equally so in religion. You often see many religious organizations In the membership of which are both the pure and the impure, the Godly and the ungodly and from what they say and do, you can distinguish no difference- I challenge anyone to discover any difference between them. "We now see signs of the dawning of a brighter day. The church has been trying every other means to build up its work and has failed, now people are coming back to the gospel. They find that we must have more religion, or very soon we will have vastly less. Being a Christian Is like riding a bicycle you must either go on or you will go off."
