ROME, (via Paris), April 13.—Information obtained from the highest German sources in this city is to the effect that there is absolutely no basis for the report that peace negotiations under certain conditions are under way in Berlin.

ARGUMENT OVER GUARDIANSHIP

Young Woman Alleges One Was Named Without Her Knowledge. Argument upon a petition for the removal of George M. Davis as the guardian of Edith M. Gottschalk served to warm the atmosphere In the Probate Court Tuesday morning. Charles S. Batt filed the petition as attorney for the plaintiff and in his argument siid a guardian had been appointed for his client without her consent and for the apparent purpose of defrauding the young women. Miss Gottsch^k is 19 years old and the court records show a guardian was appointed for her upon the request of her aunt Mrs. Elva Smith. In her petition, Miss Gottschalk asks the court to name Attorney Batt as her guardian. The case was set for a hearing on May 3.

REPUBLICANS MEET.

Five members were the speakers at the meeting of the Vigo County Republican club Monday night. They were Charles R. Hunter. W. S. Pounds, William Shepherd, Alvie Gunn and J. H. Hewitt. The committees which in oroganizing the colored republicans reported progress. Several applications for membership were received at the meeting. The Young Men's Republican club will meet Friday night.

BAY HORSE STOLEN.

Chief Doyle Tuesday morning notified police departments in neighboring cities to be on the lookout for a small bay lilind horse hitched to an open top buggy which William Brough, of 528 South Second street, reported stolen from Eighth and Ohio streets Monday night.

Summons to appear in* court ?.t St. Paul, Minn., within twenty days to settle a suit to quiet title to land was served on William H. Crane, one of the stars in the "New Henrietta." Monday by Deputy Sheriff T/OUis KatzentrHeh. it was learned Tuesday. Mr. Crane was served at the Hotel Deming by the deputy sheriff.

Mr. Crane, appeared rather surprised to have a deputy sheriff appear with papers for him. He was relieved, howe\ er. to know it was nothing more than a request to appear in court in a small legal matter. Mr. Crane said he had no knowiedKc of having a ciaim on any land in Minnesota.
