HYPNOTISM BEING USED TO TREAT BLINDNESS
Cases of Loss of Speech and Hearing, Caused By Hysteria, Also Are Aided.
PHILADELPHIA, April 9.—Hypnotism is being urged with marked success to treat blindness, loss of speech and hearing and cases of paralysis due to hysteria, at the Polytechnic hospital, according to a statement made by one of the physicians attending the clinic for nervous diseases.
Noteworthy results in these cases have attracted great interest among physicians, and the success attained in several unusual cases is creating discussion. Speaking of the treatment a member of the staff said: "Hypnotism has great value in selected cases. It fills a void no other plan of treatment can reach. By using the power of concentrated thought when the mind is in a receptive condition remarkable cures often follow. We are using it in the clinic for purelv hysterical cases in which the predominating fault is not some physical condition, but a perverted
