Apple Clubbers Give Member Sad Sendoff
A largely attended meeting of the Terre Haute orchard of the Apple club was held at the Terre Haute house, Tuesday evening. The occasion was rather a solemn one as it was the last meeting that A. N. Meginnis will attend as a bachelor. Mr. Meginnis left for Cincinnati Wednesday to take unto himself a wife. The club is planning a fitting welcome for Mr. and Mrs. Meginnis when they return to the city.
The work on the summer camp of the organization is progressing rapidly. The brick and much of the lumber to be used in the construction of the club house is on the grounds and the work of erecting the building will be pushed to completion. It is planned to have the club house ready for occupancy by May 1.
As soon as the sumer home has been completed a shower will be held, and the members of the ladies' auxiliary of the Apple olub will be invited to take part in this event. Every one present is expected to bring something that will be useful around the camp.
MORGAN MUST GIVE UP ART TREASURES OR PAY TAXES
Today Is Last on Whioh Final Disposition Must Be Made of Costly Collection.
NEW YORK, March 31.—Under the, New York law this was said by lawyers to be the day on which J. P. Mo. gan must either give away his art collections or eventually pay an inheritance tax to the state. Mr. Morgan was in Europe and no announcement of his intention had been made. It was said that if Mr. Morgan had desired to bestow his art collection either upon the Metropolitan Museum of Art or the Memorial at Hartford, Conn., founded by the late J. P. Morgan, he could do so today by making the gift either to the city of New York or the city of Hartford. The law provides that unless such gift3 are made within two years after the death of the otvner, an inheritance tax must be paid.
