TWENTY KOVIGES TAKE TRIP ON HOT SANDS
Mystic Shriners Initiate Class After Which Elaborate Banquet Is Served.
The ceremonial sessions of the Nobles of Zorah temple. Ancient Order Xobles of the Mystic Shrine, was held at the temple on Mulberry street, Tuesday evening, and twenty novices were piloted on the pilgrimage across the hot sands of the Desert of Mecca.
The men to make this journey for the first time were Roy Duncan, Roscoe O. Fishback, Forest A. Griscom, Ed win S. Hardy, Richard P. Henry, Walter G. Himmelbauer, Oro S. Jackson Harry E. Lenhardt, Julius Ivindemann Jacob E. Mechling, Leonard Middleton, Richard C. Oriyian, Omar E. Rhoades W. P. Rollins, William Teel, Fred Wagner, Lewis D. Walker, Frank Wei dele, Robert S. CuVbertson of Vincennes and William H. Robinson of Detroit, Milch.
The work started at 7:30 o'clock with Illustrious Potentate Hal H. Hronberger presiding. This was the last ceremonial session at which Mr. Dronber ger will preside, as the election of officers for the coming year will be hela at the annual meeting Friday evening. After the strenuous journey across the hot sands an elaborate banquet was served, which had been prepared under the supervision of Noble John R. Harkness. One of the entertaining features of the evening was furnished by Frank Hutchinson,, who rendered 'I'm the Kid Who Built the Pyramids," in captivating style.
Harry Rottman presented the temple with two banners during the evening, one of Zorah temple at Terre Haute and the other of Medina temple at Chicago.
TILLEY DECRIES TENDENCY TO ELIMINATE THE BIBLE
Says Americans Have Been Going Back Since Landing Here, in Address to Hoosier Forum.
Prof. J. M. Tilley spoke to the members of the Hoosier Forum at the Washington Avenue Presbyterian church Tuesday night, choosing for his subject "The Banishment of the Bible." The discourse brougt out many criticisms, to all of which Mr. Tilley replied. Mr. Tilley attempted to show that the bible has been gadually banished from the home since the times of long ago. "The lirst settlers in this country brought the bible with them," said the speaker, "but as the children married and set up in their homes, the one bible could not" be multiplied. The next element was the process of natural elimination brought about by the nature of conditions. After the crossing of the Alleghenies by the early settlers, they were thrown upon nature more and more. "America has had no great calamity or famine. They were so rich they paid no attention to the bible. The trouble with us today is that we are »o wealthy. The fulness of American life has eliminated the bible from the home. Man didn't need God, he thought, and got along without him. War also has had its part in the elimination of the bible. War always lowers the moral conception of the people."
Pr, J. T. Scovell, S. C. Stimson, Prof. J. C. Lynch, Jefferson V. Houpt, Rev. F. Leroy Brown, Bert Beasley and Harry Crawford were leaders in the discussion which followed the address.
At the conclusion of the discussion, Air. Houpt introduced a motion praising the election probe, and it was adopted. The women of the church served a turkey supper prior to the address. Miss Marguerite Kicklerand Mrs. W. E. Robinson furnished music, and Miss Margaret Bums entertained with dances and readings.
