Son of Demetro John, Under Indictp, ment for Murder, Taken Into Custody on Fugitive Warrant.
Smith John, a son of Demetro John, the Brazilian gypsy under indictment for murder, and who came hero from his home in Columbus, Ga., to attend the trial of his father, which was set for Monday and then continued, was arrested Tuesday afternoon on a warrant issued by a justice of the peace in Cook county, 111., charging him with the abduction of one Annie Rodossvich in October, 1912, and was placed in Jail while a fugitive warrant was sworn out against him by Frank Eli, a gypsy, said to be a police officer from Summit, 111., where the original af-

made. The original warrant charged John Stephen with the abduction and
the fight will be made to connect John Stephen with Smith John. The latter claims that the girl whom he is charged with abducting is at present his wife, he having been married to her some six years ago. They have a child three years old at their home in Columbus, Ga., and he talked with his wife on Monday evening over the long distance telephone in the endeavor to get her to join him here. Her mother, Mrs. Perca Rodossvich, who is a member of the Ristich faction of the tribe, now gathered here, made quite a scene in the court house Tuesday afternoon, abusing the members of the John family who are gathered here. The latter party includes Stephen and V" Thomas John, brothers of Demetro
Pedro, George and Smith, sons of the latter, together with several sons of the other brothers. Stephen John, who bears a strong resemblance to Emperor Francis Joseph, of Austria-Hungary, said he met the latter once in Dalxnatia, and when questioned said he also knew Dom Pedro, the last emperor of Brazil, before it became a republic. He claims to have been a captain in the Brazilian army, in which a younger brother now holds a commission as a colonel.

Warden Osborne said that he would take up the case with the new attorney general, Egbert E. Woodberry. It also became known that this man offered himself for the same purpose a year ago, but Attorney-General Carmody ruled that the state of New York could not allow it.
