Tells Hoosier Forum That Germ of Conflict Came From Revolutions of Eighteenth Century.

An interesting address and banquet of the Hooeier Forum at the Washington Avenue MethodlBt church brought out forty-five members of the organization Tuesday night. Prof. F. S. Bogardus gave the address on "Historical Backgrounds of the Present lSuropean War." The Forum orchestra furnished mufllc throughout the evening. W. R. Cade, president of the club, introduced Prof. Bogardua as the speaker of the evening and in his introduction, Mr. Cade stated that the subject would be handled neutrally.

The speaker said that the germ of the present conflict of the European powers lies back in the industrial revolutions of the eighteenth century. He gave an outline of the expansion of

A much larger audience than on Monday night greeted the Wilrnot Goodwin concert company at Centenary M. E. church Tuesday night, and the program was much appreciated. Special features on the program that drew applause .was the rendition by Mr. Goodwin, of the baritone solos, "Hear Me^ Ye Winds and Waves," and "In the Harem," Maurice Warner"? violin solo, and Lee Cronican's piano special number, "Caprice Bsquol."

PHILIP GAINS FOLLOWERS.

Siegfried Philip, the Ianish tenor, who is making his headquarters in this city, will go to Cincinnati Saturday night, where he will be introduced in concert tfi a private recital at the home of Mrs. J. Walter Freiberg, of Avondale. He will be accompanied by Rabbi Jacob H. Kaplan. Mr. Philip was the soloist at the Symphony orchestra concert at Indianapolis Sunday night, and was compelled to respond to three encores.

Suit Invo.ving $1.36 Reaches High Court

WASHINGTON, Nov. 11.—A difference of $1.36 was the basis of a suit which today reached thei United States supreme court. It was started originally by the Macon County Supply Co. of Franklin, North •Carolina, to recover $3.75 over charges on a shipment of ranges from Piqua, Ohio. The Tallulah Falls Railway Co. offered to pay $2.30 in settlement The difference was $1.26 and could not be adjusted.

The case was appealed to the supreme court because a $100 penalty had been imposel upon the railway for failure to pay the claim within a prescribed period.

LEAGUE ANNOUNCES LECTURE. Civic Body Interested in Talk on City and Its Problem*.

The regular meeting of the Terre Haute Civic league was held Tuesday evening in the Chamber of Commerce rooms. Arrangements were made for a lecture December 3, by Dr. A. B. Hall, of the University of Michigan, to be given here during the teachers' lecture course. The league will be behind this particular talk as it is interested in the subject on which he will speak, "The City, Its Problems and Its Possibilities." Mrs. L. J. Rettger, president of the local association, urged prompt payment of membership dues.
