DEMOCRATS HAVE FAIR MAJ01Y IN PUTNAM
Elect All of County Officers and Lost But Few in the Townships.
By Special Correspondent. GREENCASTLE, Ind., Nov. 5.—The democrats of Putnam county at the Tuesday election held their majority, but it was not as high as two years ago. Senator Shively received a pi 1rality here of 1,106 votes over Miller. Homer L. Cook led Ed Jackson by 2,437 to 1,685 votes, and the remainder of the ticket was about the same, although the official figures have not been given out by the election board.
The republicans elected a trustee in Madison township, the first time in fifty-four years. The progressives won in Warren township. A contest will likely result from the vote for trustee in Russell township, where the republicans won by one vote. The trusteeship in Jefferson township was a tie, and in drawing straws the democrats won, but the republican has filed a contest and it will be settled in the court. The democrat in Floyd township also won by one vote. All the democratio county officers were elected.
More interest was shown in the township races baieause they were 30 close. It is the first time in the history of the county that these offices have been so closely contested.
PASSING THOUGHTS.
Skeptic is the name given to a man who is unable to form convictions and is unwilling to believe that anyone else can form them and have them right.
Still, even an idle rumor never tarries by the wayside.
What is coming to a man is not often what he wants.
Honesty is not circumscribed by the mandates and prohibitions of the law.
