Brazil Men Who Backed Reservoir Proposition Address Mayor and Council.

By Special Correspondent. BRAZIL, Ind., Oct 17—M. H. Johnson, Roy A. McCowan and W. H. Buibb, who are the president, treasurer and secretary of the citizens' committee which took up the matter of building a swimming, pool at the city reservoir last summer and carried it to a successful conclusion, have addressed the mayor and city council, asking that the city take over the project and preserve and maintain the swimming pool and have it properly policed.

The officials of the committee anaoonce that it is their intention to solicit more funds next spring for the beautifying of the city reservoir and grounds with the object of turning it into a city park if the council will co-operate. The committee expects to

Minona Jones, Suffrage Leader, to Speak Today. By Special Correspondent. pnRATXT^ Ind., Oct. 17.—Mrs. Minona Jones, of Chicago, will speak on the new constitution at the First Presby terisn church tomorrow afternoon at 4 o'clock. Mrs. Jones is one of the leaders of the National Suffrage association, national president of the Race Betterment league, author of the woman's declaration of lndependence, founder of the "No Vote, No Tax" league, and originator of the woman's good road movement.

Jury Still Out.

By Special Correspondent. BRAZIL, Ind., Oct 17—The trial of James Burnham on the charge of criminally assaulting Rose Nelle Suain, a -5.4-year-old orphan girl who had been ulopted by George "W. Crame, editor of the Clay City News, closed this afternoon when the jury retired at 2 ^o'clock. Burnham is a retired business man, 63 years old, and has always born a good reputation. The girl testified that she went to Bumham's home to gtet some persimmons and dropped her handkerchief. When she Returned she claimed that Burnham enticed her in the house and assaulted her. The defense put witnesses on the stand to prove that the girl's character was of the best and that the girl had

Silver Plate Failed to Work As Expected of It on Broken Limb'— Will Recover.

By Special Correspondent. CHRISMAN, 111., Oct. IS.—A second operation was performed on Henry A. Barth at his home in this city Thursday, when his limb was amputated above the knee. Mr. Barth, who is past seventy yean of ag-et had been, bedfast seventeen weeks as the result of a broken limb, received in falling out of a tree. A silver plate was placed In the broken bone to aid It in knitting, several weeks ago, but on account of the advanced age of the patient, nature failed to do its work and amputation was made necessary as the last resort to save his life. If no complications arise Mr. Barth likely will recover.

By Special Correspondent. CHRISMAN, HI.. Oct. 18.—Cart Parks, son of A. B. Parks, of this city, was taken to. Chicago a few days ago, where he underwent a surgical operation.

Roy Hobbs, the young son of Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Hobbs, also submitted to a delicate operation In the removal of his tonsils and adenoids, a day or two ago. The patient was taken to Chicago for the operation.

Entertains Oriental Club.

By Special Correspondent. CHRISMAN, 111., Oct. 17.—M3rs. Oris E. Patrick entertained the Oriental club at their fortnightly meeting Thursday afternoon. She was assisted by her daughter, Miss HHlah Patrick. The time was given over to fancy work and a social time was the result. A dainty luncheon was served at 5 o'clock. Mrs. W. H. Scott and Mrs. John Boles ware trrvtted guests.

Charles L. Carter Gives Tract to West Terre Haute. A deed was filed with the cotraty recorder Saturday by Charles L. Carter and wife for a tract of land in West Terre Haute, 50 feet by 142 feet, donated the land in question to the West Terre Haute Utilities company for use as a site for the location of a city hall, a city water station, fire station and other city purposes, a deed from the trustees of West Terre Haute to the utilities company being filed at the same time. The tract referred to was deeded originally by Carter to the town of West Terre Haute for public purposes, and the last deed sanctioned the

By Special Correspondent. aHiRISMAN", 111., Oct 17.—The Ladles' Social circle met with Mrs. Marion Fellers on South Illinois street Friday afternoon. The meet was to arrange for their chrysanthemum show to be held on No-remiber 12, 13 and 14. An art exhibit and bazaar will also be held in connection with the show. On the last afternoon bakery will be held and a big orster supper will conclude the last day's program. There will be one of the finest exhibits of flowers evw sihown at any previous show. 1
