TEACHER DELEGATION II

School Board Authorizes Selection of Twelve to Attend Meeting of State Association.

After hearing a report from C. Waits, superintendent of the city schools, to the effect that only twothirds of the teachers of the city schools would go to the State Teachers' association meeting in Indianapolis, October 29, 80 and 31, the board of school trustees Friday night unanimously refused to grant a two days' vacation to allow the tcachers to attend the meet Ing. George Greenleaf then presented a motion providing for a delegation of twelve teachers representing the different departments of the city schools, and this motion was passed. Superintendent Waits was given authority to select the delegates.

Reports from the various departments and the settling of accounts occupied a great part of the evening. Mrs. Sallle Hughes, librarian of the Emeline Fairbanks memorial library, was instructed to furnish the board with a list of the books in homes where contagious diseases have been reported. Mrs. Hughes recommended the appointment of Mary R. Phillpis as librarian at the Garfield high school library and the board passed favorably on her report. The appointment will become effective November 1.

Superintendent Gwinn. of the buildtags and grounds, asked that the janitors of the school buildings be given the use of a building in which to hold a banquet In the near future and this request was granted.

WELCOME TO PASTOR

Reception to Rev. I. B. Harper and Family Breaks Precedents At First M. E. Church.

Under the auspices of the Ladies' Furnishing society of the First Methodist church a reception was tendered the pastor, Rev. I. B. Harper, Mrs. Harper and daughter Myriam Friday evening in the parlors of the church. The affair was one of the most pleasing and successful receptions ever given by the church, which is the mother of Methodism in Terre Haute. The reception was also complimentary to the many new members received into membership during the past conference year.

The parlors of the church were oeautifully decorated for the occasion, the color scheme being green and white. The stage was banked with ferns, palms, cannas and wild daisies. The dining room, artistically decorated with greenery combined with sweet peas, attracted special attention because of its exquisite beauty F« the unusual beauty of the decoratu ns credit is due Mrs. O. L. Huff and her helpers on the committee. Mesdames W. C. Johnson, E. A. Hollingsworth, Charles ooiasmith, Noah Brill and George Eppert.

In the receiving line were tiie Rev. I. B. Harper and Mrs. Harper, Iȣrs. C. L. Jones, Mrs. George Eppert, Mrs. W. A. Braden, Mrs. Frank Hai^ and Mrs Isabell Reynolds. Refreshments, consisting of choice California grapes, assorted cakes and cofTee, were served, Mrs. Frank Hale and Mrs. George Eppert having charge of the dining room, and Mrs. F. IA Oakley an.i Mrs. L. R. Whitney presiding at the table. Assisting were the Misses Esther Johnson, Edith Eppert, Olive House and Lillian H&le.

Under the direction of Mrs. W. A. House and Mrs. Charles Lam triers, a very pleasing program was rendered. The Misses Freda Freez and Fay LaRue ^rere encored on a very beautiful piano duet. -Solos by E. A. Hoilingsworth and Robert Weston were received with marked appreciation. Much amusement was occasioned by a humorous reading, entitled "Heading the by Mrs. Bessie Chranlckl, while every one with musical appreciation was delighted with the artistic violin solo fey Mrs. O. L. Huff accompanied by Miss Gertrude Haupt. The program closed with The Menagerie Quartet."' a humorous musical number by Messrs. L. E. Carson, Ira Ferrel, G. W. Thompson and W. C. Coleman.
