ASK POLICE TO IID MAN FOR REQUISITION
Authorities At Decatur, 111., Say Fred Briggs Stole Pocketbook and Diamond There.
Chief Holler received instructions from the police department of Decatur, 111., Wednesday morning to hold Fred Briggs, charged with stealing a diamond ring: from l!ulse Riley, of Decatur, until he could be requistioned. Briggs was arrested Saturday on Wabash avenue by Bicycleman Lloyd while trying to dispose of a diamond ring worth $220 for $60 at a pawn •hop.
When searched at headquarters Briggs had a pocketbook with a union card in it with the name of Luke Riley, Decatur, 111., on the back. He told several stories about the pocketbook. He first said he found the pocketbook In Terre Haute. Later he said that he found the pocketbook on the freight train that he came in to Terre Haute on. Finally Briggs admitted that he found the pocketbook in a saloon In Decatur and that the diamond was inside when he picked it up.
Detective Fedderson notified the police in Decatur and Wednesday morning they telegraphed that the pocketbook and the ring had been stolen last week from Luke Riley, the man whose name was on the card in Briggs' possession.
BOAT BURNS AT DOCK. CAIRO, 111., Oct. 14.—The tow boat Joseph B. Williams was burned today. The fire broke out while the boat was lying at the dock. Tugs pulled her into the middle of the Ohio river, where she sank. The boat, ^vhlch cost $100,000, was said to be the second largest tow boat on inland waters.

COTTON REPORT SNOWS BIG EXPORT DECREASE
Two Months' Shipments in 1913 Was 930,328 Bales, As Against 125,778 This Year.
WASHINGTON, Oct. 14.—Cotton consumed during September was 415,194 bales, exclusive of linters, compared with 442,436 in September last year, the census bureau announced today. Its consumption for the month ending September 30 was 798,874 bales, against 874,785 last year.
Cotton on hand September 30 in manufacturing establishments was 556,06S bales, compared with 614,581 a year ago, and in independent warehouses 1,661,856, compared with 1,295,155 a year ago.
Exports were 125,778 bales, against 930,328 last year, and for the two months 146,888, against 1,1S7,500 a year ago.
Imports werA 15,315 bales, against 7,449 last year, and for the two months 42,402, against 15,234 a year ago.
Cotton spindles active numbered 30,562,185, against 30,634,381 a year ago.
BRITISH PLACE ORDER FOR 6,000 PACKAGES OF ANTI-TOXIN
Plan to Inoculate Theirs and French Soldiers As Means of Fighting Tetanus Germs.
PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 14.—An order for 6,000 packages of lockjaw antitotxin for the French and English troops has been placed with a local lirm of chemical manufacturers by the British government. The anti-toxin is to be used especially for the immunization of troops who are obliged to fight \±. the trenches. 1
A member of the contracting firm said that tetanus germs are particularly prevalent in the earth, and that! the French and English military au thorities propose to inoculate the soldiers.
The order is one of the largest placed in this country for lockjaw anti-toxin, and it will take from six to eight months to manufacture it.
T. R.'S PURSUER HELD INSANE.
Mrs. Ida Von Claussen Is Sent to Matteawan Asylum. NEW YORK, Oct. 14.—Ida Von iClaussen, recently sentenced to six months in jail for sending a threatening letter to Charles Strauss, a New York lawyer and president of the board of water suppl of this city, was committed today to the state hospital for the criminal insane at Matteawan.
Two physicians recently appointed by the supreme court to examine Mrs. Von Claussen, reported that in their opinion she was suffering from the hallucination that she was being persecuted by Theodore Roosevelt.
While Col. Roosevelt was president, Mrs. Von Claussen made repeated efforts to get an interview with him to protest against the action of the ambassador to Sweden in refusing to present her at court.

INDIANAPOLIS, Oct. 14.—Failure of Thomas Knotts, formerly mayor of Gary, Ind., to obey a subpoena to appear before the MarJon__county grand jury in connection ...m u.e investigation of the alleged juggling of bills in the last legislature, resulted today in Judge Markey of the criminal court citing Knotts for direct contempt of court and ordering Sheriff Porteus to bring Knotts into court Saturday.
