PHILADELPHIA. Pa.. Oct. 6.—Secret practice in preparation for the world's reries with the Boston Braves was started today -by the Philadelphia American league team. It was planned '-*& give the Mackmen a hard drill for tvv hours in the forenoon today and tomorrow, while both morning and afternon on Thursday will be devoted to plays that it is hoped will be elective against the National league champions. The Athletics will line up against the New York Americans this afternoon, while the final game of their regular schedule will be played tomorrow against the same team.

Manager Mack announced last night that the National league winners will not hold their preliminary practice at Shibe park, the home of the American league here, but will practice for the world's series on the grounds of the Philadelphia Nationals. They are expected to come here from Brooklyn Immediately after today's game.

LEXINGTON, K.v.. Oct. 6.—The Kentucky futurity for three-year-old trottors, a real classic of the American lisfht harness turf, was to be decided at th6 Kentucky Horse Breeders' association meeting here today. The stake is worth $14,000 and decides the championship of the year in its class.

Only nine colts remained eligible, but they represent the pick of the season's three-year-olds. Among them are Peter Volo, 2:04M Lady Waneteka, 2:10 Mr Lucille Spier, 2:07% Ortolan Axworthy, 2:i7^ Lee Axworthy, 2:08, and Adbell M., 2:09%.

"Lefty" Gilbert Thinks Braves Will Take 1'itle

"Lefty"' Gilbert, former Terre-Ir hurler, who arrived in Terre Haute late Monday afternoon, thinks the Braves will win the world's series which is scheduled to start at Shibe park, Philadelphia, Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The reasons for his belief will be tipped off to the fans in a story which "Lefty" will write for publication in Wednesday's Tribune. Gillie has seen both clubs perform this season and his dope ehould be interesting to local fans.

Gilbert will winter in Terre Haute and It is likely he will again coach the Rose Poly basketball quintet.

The Braves got to Brooklyn hurlers for a total of 24 hits in Monday's dou-ble-header. The opener was easy for Stallings' crew, while It took a ninth inning finish to pull .the second combat out of the fire.

Holding the Phillies to*three blows, Demaree piloted the Giants to a 4 to 0 win, thereby cinching second position for McGraw's gang.

After knocks galore, the Reds closed Ihe season by trimming the Pirates, 4 to 1. The first game went to Clarke's band, 4 to 3.

Those rival Fed league clubs, Chicago and Indianapolis, both won Monday, leaving the former aggregation still a half a game ahead.

Walter Johnson pitched Washington Into third place in the American league race Monday, defeating the Red Sox, 9 to 3.

Bush, Bresler and Shawkey are fit for the world's series as evinced by their work yesterday against the Yanks. Bush didn't allow a hit in three rounds, while the other two twirlers, who divided the last six rounds, yielded one blow each.
