PLEASES AT GARDEN
Kelly-Kjnceland Company Conclude Their Engagement This Week.
The second and last week of the engagement of the Kelly-Kneeland musical comedy at Young's Garden, will begin this afternoon when the lively musical piece, "Finnegan's Alley" will be presented. "Flnnegan's Alley" will be repeated Monday night. On Tueeday and Wednesday nights the bill
will be "The Dope Fiend," and on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, "The Merry Whirl."
Frank Kelly, the leading man of the organization, is a versatile comedian as was demonstrated during the past week when he showed equal cleverness In Irish comedy, eccentric and rube characters. Grace Kneeland also shows her stock training by playing the prima donna one night and character woman the next. Alice Raymond, Clyde Weston, Jim Roberts, William Myers and the Terre Haute players. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Massie, are the other principals. Mr. Massle's dancing has been one of the features of the program presented by the Kelly Kneelands' at the Garden. Two performances are given at night, at 7.80 and 8 p. m.
Creatore Could Model Dante's Nose
Signer Creatore, the Italian band master, barely escaped being a sculptor. As It Is he thinks he could not do a fairly good model of Dante's nose If he had to.
Speaking of his experiences as an art student recently, Creatore said: "All Italian art students are made to try to model Dante's nose. It is a very big nose. I at last succeeded In modeling the nose. But it was a very Dad nose, and one of the other students threw something at It and that was the end of Dante's nose and my attempts to be a sculptor."
But music was Creatore's real passion from the time he was a tiny boy. His first musical instrument was a violin. This he exchanged after a time for the trombone.
Fourteen years ago he decided to seek his fortune in the United States. Here he became acquainted with Channing Ellery, who at once recognized the young Italian's peculiar genius as a conductor, and engaged him for the position in his Italian band. Then Creatore decided to have a band of his own. His first engagement of genuine importance as his own band leader was at Hammerstein's roof garden, where he played for five months, creating a genuine furore by his original methods and genius.
Making an Actor Out of Ball Player
To make a good actor out of a baseball player Is no easy task. Even Mabel Hite found It impossible to make Mike Donlln as much of a celebrity ,upon the stage as he was upon the polo grounds. All the more credit is due, therefore, to the little woman who made a first-class actor out of the mighty pitcher of the New York Giants, Rube Marquard.
Blossom Seeley, known to fame as the original "Todolo" girl and In private life Mrs. RubC Marquard, has done wonders with the Rube, though he still clings to his first love, professional baseball. Up to the time thai the giants started on their spring practice trip Marquard & Seeley were one of the standard acts of vaudeville. Mrs. Marquard refused a number of very tempting offers to appear alone this summer, preferring to remain with her husband. Due to the fact that the Giants played Boston Mrs. Marquard was seen on the bill at Keith's theater in the Hub.

Seven Companies in Unusual Rehearsal
The most remarkable series of rehearsals on record are being held In the fctage of the George M. Cohan theater New York City, these days In order to carry out Manger A. H. Woods' plan that "Potash & Perlmutter," the great comedy success, shall be presented simultaneously in every part of the United States and Canada during the coming season. As no single company could possibly cover all the territory In a single season, no less than seven companies have been organized and this oranlzation has been going on ever since Montaguo Glass' "dramatic garment in three pieces," made Its stupendous hit in New York last August.
L/iterally more than a thousand actors and actresses have been "tried out" during the past year for the various roles, and for many weeks rehearsals of the different companies have been going on. A week ago the 3taff of stage managers reported to Mr. Woods that the organization had reached practically perfection, but Mr. Woods demanded a further test. He Issued a "call" for all the Abe Potashes and Morros Permutters to report at the Cohan theatre, and, pa'r by pair, they were put through the famous scenes between the two partners that have made the comedy the great hit it is.
Frohman Seeks Paris Opening
Charles Frohman has left London for Paris. "My purpose in going there," he eaid, "is to make arrangements for the appearance at ono of the leading Parisian theatres of an Englishspeaking musical comedy company. At the head of the organization will be Julia Sanderson, Donald Brian and Joseph Cawthorne, who, this year, are to piny in a combination under my management in America. For the Paris venture they will be reinforced by a number of English star artists, thus making an Anglo-American company. The piece. I shall select either from the best obtainable in this or the American market, with the proviso that I am free to furnish it with new numbers by any composers I decide to choose. True, Mr. George Edwardes has done something of the kind, but only for a very limited period. I intend that my company shall remain in Paris for at least two months. Mr. Calllavet, the well-known dramatist, who collaborates v.'ith Robert de Flers, will in my absence undertake the Paris end of the business. Having, if I may say so withou*. presumption, helped to bring England and America together dramatically, my desire is now to Include Franco in the entente cordiale."

Janet Beecher to be Belasco Star
David Belasoo has engaged Janet Beecher for one of the leading feminine roles In his forthcoming production of "The Vanishing Bride," which will Inaugurate the season of the Belasco New York theatre, early in September. Miss Beecher's role will be that of a brilliant American society woman, who Uvea, as she describes it, a life of color. To her, oolor is both a delight and a necessity, and her color schemes, during the action of the play, give opportunity not only for unusual pictorial ornamentation, but for some remarkably strklng and original costuming.
Miss Beecher's last New York appearance under the management of Mr. Belasco was as Helen Arany, the musician's wife. In "The Concert."
Why Homer Lind Quit Grand Opera
"I can stand anything," observas Homer Lind, who forsook grand opera for vaudeville some twelve years ago, "but the sensational method of advertising to which grand opera stars resort these days why, they have turned opera Into a circus. Nowadays it Is little more than a huge vaudeville show In which the most sensational singer is featured as headllner. This method of advertising, coupled with the quarreling and Jealousy among the singers, has much to do with my desertion of the operatic stage. A congregation of vaudeville perfoAners is like one large, peaceful family, compared with a bunch of grand opera singers and life among them isn't worth the living."

Lloyd Lonergan, who wrote the scenario for "The Million Dollar Mystery," the Thanhouser photoplay, told Mae Tinee, who interviews actors for the Chicago Tribune, that the production would cost the producers half a million dollars. Then he proceeds to tell how the money will be spent. In the first place the "House of Mysetry," which figures vitally in the plot, was purchased from Francis Wilson for $200,000. It was entirely refitted and reproduced in the Thanhouser studios. Miss Tinee goes on to say: "This production has necessitated a trip to the Bahamas with the latest scientific apparatus for taking under water pictures, requiring the chartering of a steam yacht, the building of a special- steam barge, and the hiring of expert technical men. A balloon had to be built and as the New Rochelle gas works could not guarantee to supply the required amount of hydrogen gas, the Thanhouser company built Its own gas plant. The balloon naturally required somebody to operate it, so
