Mrs. M. J. Ward of Gilbert avenue entertained the Ladies' Industrial society of the Baptist Mission, Poplar street, Thursday afternoon.

The Cui Bono club met with Mrs. Ora M. Clatfelter last Tuesday afternoon at the home of her mother, Mrs. Mary Phillips, No. 519 South Ninth street, A delightful time was had. After an instructive lesson in literature, light re^ freshments wprc served, when the chib adjourned to meet with Mrs. P. F. Clark, Tuesday, Feb. 17.

A surprise party was given February 5 to Miss Esora Forner at her residence 409 Washington avenue. Those present were: Edith HoiT, Esora Forner, Fannie Hickman. Ella Elbrink, Edith Reynolds, Lilly White, Ivy Vandivier, Fred Earner, Ralph Earner. They were entertained by music and games. Refreshments were served, and presents were given.

Miss Jessie Conan will give a '"Parcel Shower," Monday evening', at her home on Spruce street for the bride-elect, Miss Jessie Barnett.

Miss Jane Conan will entertain the Edwards Visiting club, Wednesday afternoon. at her home on Spruce street. This club is composed of the members of Edwards Rebekali Lodge No. 320, I. 0. 0. F.

The meeting of the Woman's Missionary society of the Central Christian church will be held with Dr. Madge Patton Hawkins, 107 North Eighth street, on Wednesday afternoon, instead of with Mrs. L. E. Sellers, as announced.

The Edwards Visiting club celebrated its first anniversary Thursday night at the hall of Terre Haute Lodge No. 51, I. 0. 0. F. A new club of young ladies has been organized called the Royal Circle. The first meeting was held at the home of Miss Grace Elani and the following officers were elected: President, jjliss Grace Hillis vice president, Miss Zella Wilson secretary. Miss Mabel McMahon: treasurer Miss Velma Thompson. Refreshments were served and a splendid time was enjoyed by all. The young people are anticipating many pleasant meetings. Those present were: Misses Gnjce Hillis, Velma Thompson, Winona Elani, Edith Rohoff, Mabel McMahon, Zella Wilson, Florence Barker, Katie Bruce, Gertie Roll, Esther Kisner, Grace Elam and Bessie Murphy.

A party of young people held sway at Bronson's rink Friday evening and a most enjoyable time was had by all. A luncheon was served at midnight. The Thursday Thimble club was enentertained Friday afernoon at the home of Mrs. Charles Hays, 1527 Oak street. A dainty luncheon was served by the hostess.

Mrs. John eiark Hill and the Misses gave the first of their series of receptions Saturday afternoon at their home on North Fifth street. The house was beautiful.y decorated for the occasion, a profusion of cut flowers and palms being used. Refreshments were served.

Owing to the illness of Mrs. Doak, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Doak were unable to accompany-Mr. B. G. Hudnut to New Orleans yesterday en route to the isthmus of Te,hauntepec. They hope to go Tuesday via St. Louis and will join Mr. Hudnut at San Antonio. The object of the trip is partly pleasure, but principally to buy sugar machinery and to push the business of the Southern Sugar company, in which both Mr. Doak and Mr. Hudnut are interested.

Mrs. Charles N. Murphy and the Misses Werner have issued invitations for a euchre party February 12th.

Mrs. Ernil roeb gave a delightful euchre party Saturday afternoon at her home on South Sixth street in honor of her sister, Mrs. George Warren Hewes of Maysville, N. Y. Seventy guests were present, most of them playing caids. A few who did not play cards were received in the living rooms kbove stairs. The house was beautifully decorated. The reception hall was in red, the drawing room pink, and the dining room in green. The different apartments were fighted with scones candelabra and fairy lamps with candles and shades to harmonize with the color tone. At five o'clock a buffet cupper was served.

Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Ijanis entertained their card club Friday evening at their home on North Seventh street. The affair was made especially attractive owing/ to the fact that it wa,s the twentyfifth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. W. P. ljams. Mr. Ijams was married to Miss Sallie Warren at St. Stephen's church, February (5. 1S78, at hig- noon, followed by a breakfast at the home of Miss Warren with her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. David S. Donaldson, 101 Seventh street. The Rev. S. F. Donham officiated, xhe ushers were George F. Jenckes, Frank McKecn, Will Tuell and J. W. Cruft. Friday evening at 7 o'clock a "supper was served at small tables in the dressing room, which was adorned with roses, Bermuda lilies, wl*ita lilacs Before the menu was served the guests drank champagne to the health of the host and hostess. Catherine Merinet roses were served with the last course. The score cards were tied with silver tinsel and the stars were silver. The prizes awarded were silver. Mrs. James E. Somes and Mr. Jay Keyes won the club prizes and Mrs. F. C. Crawford and Mr. S. R. Harnill, the guest prizes. The guests of the club were Major and Mrs. Crawford-, Mrs. James Hunter, Captain and. Mrs. A.. C. Ford, Mr. William Penn, Mioses Fannie and Alice Warren. The&next meeting will be with Mr. Anthony Groverman Blake ,of South Center street.

The Dirigo Dancing club will hold a special meeting at the Dnenweg Dancing Academy Sunday afternoon, and it is desired that all members bo present.

The W. C. L. Euchre club met Friday evening at the home of Mrs. G. V. Lucas on North Ninth street. Mr. Stephari Lockwood won the gentleman's prize, Mrs. E. 2Miller the ladies and W. C. I/awes the free for all.

The Rev. Thomas. W. MacLean has returned to his home in Minneapolis. Minn., after a brief visit with his mother and sisters at 1124 Spruce street.

Miss Bertha Curry lias resigned her position as physical director at the Young Woman's Christian Association. The illness of -her mother ou.iged her to resign. The next term will open next Monday morning with Miss Helen G. Richardson a,s director.

Mrs. Walter Failing'entertained the Irving Circle Thursday afternoon at her home on South Fifth street. The topic for the afternoon was the congressional library. Mrs. S. J. Austin gave an interesting talk on the library. Refreshments were served. The next meeting will be with Mrs. Riehle, February 19tli.

Mrs. Lucius Lyhrand gave a gentlemen's evening for the Wednesday club Friday evening at her home on South Sixth street. A seven o'clock dinner was served after which cards were played.

The Jolly Workers of Mattox church met with Miss Margaret Baur at her home on' North Third street Thursday evening, February 5th. The- following officers were elected: President, Rose Keller: vice president, Mary Layman secretary and treasurer, Mary Swinhart reporter, Delia Sparks. The marriage of Deaconess Ida Qriffing and Mr. S. B.- Lajrman took place Wednes day evening, at the First Baptist church, the Rev. Kittredge Wheeler performing rhe ceremony. The church was beauti fully decorated for the occasion with potted pitnits and palms. The Terre Haute Scction, Council of Jewish Women was held last week at the home of Mrs. Jonas Strouse. Mrs. Leipziger read the paper of the evening her subject being "The Influence of Home in Judaism." A discussion followed. Rabbi teipziger gave an informal talk on "Institutions of Judaism". The next meet ing will be held February 12th when Miss Julia Silberman will read a nn^or on "The Jew as a Statesman: D'lsraeli."

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Coordes entertained the King club at their home, 1919 South Seventh street Monday evening. Various games were played, the prize being won by Mr. Albaugh. Refreshments were served.

The Misses Antoinette Hoffman and Cecil White entertained their card club Saturday afternoon at the home of Miss Hoffman, on Ohio street,. The prizes were won by Mrs. Clair Dobbs and Mrs., George "Morris and the hostess. Refreshments were served. Mr. and Mrs. Pius B. Mooter delightfully entertained Saturday evening in honor of Mrs. Mooter's sister Viola O'Leary at their home on Oak street. Mrs. Mooter was assisted by Mrs. John Connelly. Three tables played euchre, after which refreshments were served. The members of the "T" club .were delightfully entertained by Mr. and Mrs. Oliver 'M. Kay on Wednesday evening. The evening was passed by various amusements, and at a late hour luncheon wns served.
