New York Stock Market. NEW YORK, Dec. 24—The stock market opened a trifle easier and developed much animation. The largest decline in active lis.t was in N. E. and W., but it occurred oh a single hundred share sale. Amal. and Mo. Pac. were lower. Among the stocks to open unchanged were sugar, tfrie, Reading, Union Pacific, Manhattan jinrl Steel stocks. The demand for Reading was good and it rallied on comparatively large trading. There was some pressure on the other hand directed a sains Texas and Pacific, but its loss during the first ten minutes was only per cent. The market developed irregularity rather than a tendency in either direction.
The coal stocks? as a rule were firm, firmest of the list. St. Paul and Sugar both rallied nominally. Dealings in bonds •were well distributed, but in small lots without notable changes in prices. 11 a. m.—Holiday dullness continues a principal feature. Prices were heavy from the start, but declines were not important as a rule. N. Y. C. lost a point. R. I. lost 1 per cent and Mo. Pac. nearly as much. Other changes were fractional. Speculative temper is mixed on the general list, with traders indisposed to carry large commitments over the Christmas holiday.
Government bonds unchanged. Railroad bonds firm. Noon—There is little gossip on the floor concerning the rise in B. R. T. and what there is connects it with a simular but smaller gain in Manhattan. There has been no great increase in commission business and room artders have been the principal factors in giving prices their tone
Noon prices: Nrie SP.i. Mo Pac. 105%: B. R. T. 67-?i Sugar 12S, Atchison 82% Colorado Fuel 79',i Mail. 1474 St. Paul 175''»•
Total sales 22f,|300 shares. 2 p. m.—Business since noon has been unimportant as t:he majority of the members /of the exchange have practically suspc-nded operations for the day. The celebrations on the floor have been going on for an hour. The market, howrv- has continued remarkably firm, a lirger short interest than expected having developed among the room traders.
