C 1 T Y W E W • * The Democratic and Conservative citizens of Marion County will meet at the Court House, in Indianapolis, on Saturday, tbe 25tb Inst., at two o’clock, f. m., for tbe purpose of nominating candidates to be voted for at tbe ensuing October election. Let everybody opposed radicals ruling this Government, be present. Joseph Loftin, Chairman Democratic Central Committee. t jGTTbe meeting of the Supreme Court has been postponed till Monday. JSrSchcrer, the brushmaker, who was run over by tbe Central train, Monday night, Is dead. Notabies.—Derrick Lehman, of Wabash, and Christian Correll, of Hamilton County, have been commissioned ss notaries public. U3rAnaa Wiestehas been arrested for stealing numerous goods in Cincinnati, and expressing them to 474 East Washington street In this city. tSTThe meeting of Railway Superlntendents at tbe Hates House, to revise the time table, did not result In anything. They agreed to disagree. Not tuat Sullivan.—The Dennis Sullivan who appeared In our police report yesterday morning, as a drunk and disorderly, Is net the Dennis Sullivan who drives a hack.

Tale of a Watebfaix.—Yesterday afternoon, Mlse Ollie St. Clair arrayed ^herself In gorgeoua array, and, with rustling silks and •weeping train, tripped lightly along Washington street and up Pennsylvtnla to the post office. If there was anything peculiarly stunning In Mias St. Clair’s queenly make up, itwaathe wealth of frlazled hair which depended from her baallar region, aettlng male biped* to wondering, nod causing less gloriously endowed female* to go mad with envy. There was only one little drawback to Miss St. Clair’s htpplneu—one little skeleton In her closet. The wealth of hair which ahe so proudly flaunted in the face of all competitors did not belong to her. She bad borrowed It, without asking permission, from Miss or Mrs.

Frank Clark.

Mias Ollie St. Clair arrived at the Post Office, and poked her classic profile, ornamented with this astounding show of hair, Into the little window of the Ladles’ Department, to Inquire, In musical «y liable*, if they happened to have a letter for her. Little did •be suspect the swift vengeance which was soon to fall upon her devoted head. Miss Frank Clark happened to drop in Just about this time, on the same errand, and recognized the hair. She made a grab for It, and literally “snatched her baldheaded,” with words, spoken in tbe beat of debate, which It la not proper or pretty to reproduce In these columns. Terrific scene. Screams, and Jawing back. Crowd begins to gather. Regular fight Impending, when Policeman Stevens appears upon the scene, and takes the fair bel-

ligerents eff to Jail.

Complimentary concert.—The following

correspondence eEplains itself: Indianapolis, April 11,1868.

Mr. T. N.Cadlfimld—Dear 8ir: The un dersigned, believing that a concert of Scotch and Irish melodlea would be popular and unique, and afford our citizens an opportunity of listening to a claa* of music not usually presented at concerU, would request you to give such a programme at an early day.

Messrs. Glenn, Macauley, man, and Others —Gentlemen: I

USTUenry Juluw was yesterday burled wlih the honors of Odd Fellowship. Mr. J. was a member of Germania Lodge, and has been stek of consumption for ssveral years past. Petrified Turtle.—Valentine Butsch has at bis coal bouse, on Georgia street, a curiosity in the shape of a petrified turtle Tbe reptile is twenty-three Inches long by fifteen wide. It was found in a creek near Mount Vernon, Jennings County. Failure. —It U eireet talk that tbe firm of Judaon & Dodd, wholesale grocers and manufacturers ol ground coffee and spices, on South Merldan street, have been compelled to make an assignmoot. Their liabilities are reported at flluo.uoo, and It thought tbe assiti will pay fifty cents on tbe dollar. State Board of aokiculture.—The Board met at tbclr rooms In tbe Slate House yesterday. Messrs. Hamrick, William)-, Poole, Donaldson, McConnell, Cox, and Holmes, being la attendance. Secretary Holmes reported that 3So bad been subscribed by citizens of Indianapolis, to secure tbe holding of the fair in this city for tbe next two years. But little business of importance was transacted. GTOur City Counctl Is curiously constituted. For a long time a cit zen of Massachusetts—a peddler of lightning rods—representod a Democratic ward, and at this moment a citizen of'Kansas Is keeping some good Democrat from enjoying the honors and emoluments of a seat in that body. Colonel Burgess promised us faithfully that he would resign beforo he moved, but be eeems to have neglected it. JSTIt Is rumored tnat Life Woodward, editor of tbe Lebanon Pioneer, decamped last Friday, taking with him 640U In Democratic funis. We saw Lafe la this city Friday evening, very drunk, but be did not seem to have 8400 with him. Lebanon, however, la an unhealthy locality for editorial morals. Not long since an earnest Republican editor was arrested in tbatcliy for stealing wood. Revenue Items -Judson A Dodd report tbelr March sales at 816.000. Also, tbe manufacture and sale of O/zbl pounds of ground coffee and spices. Tbe Bellefontalne Railway Company reports $00,700 Interest on bonds for tbe year ending on the 31st December last. Tax, f2,835. Tbe Indianapolis Insurance Company reports f727 gross rec-lpts for March. The Metropolitan.—The “Child of the Savanna’’ was repeated last night, Mr. Partello taking tbe part vacated by Mr. Brink at tbe time be mysteriously disappeared. Tbe house was from “good fair to middling.” Tbe play Itself it beneath criticism. Misa Alice Kingsbury Is a pretty little woman, with a most bewitching lisp. If ever we attend another performance of tbe “Child of the Savanna,” we wish It distinctly understood that we go to see her and not tbe plar. Fenian Meeting —a mass meeting will beheld at Masonic Hall this (Wednesday) evening under tbe auspices of the Fenian Brothernood. General John O’Neill, President, and James Gibbons, E-q , Vice Presl dent, will be present and address the meeting. it is hoped that the Irishmen of Indianapolis will turn out and make thisdemonttration worthy of the men and the cause. A grand ball will be given on Thursday evening at tbe same place, at which the above named gentlemen will be present. A flue band will be in attendance at the meeting. 13“ A very unhealthy feeling la prevalent among our Republican fellow-elilsens in regard to the two candidates for County Treasurer—Erdelmeyer and Wright. The vote In the primary election Is very close—almost, if not quite, a tie-anda very little “sbenanigan” may give the nomination to either party. Mr. Erdelmeyer Is a liberal and ratber conservative sort of a mao. Last full he voted and worked for Hogsbire ami Greene. It is claimed by 'Wright’s frlendt* that Erdelmeyer would not have made so good a run In the piimary election If It had not been for Democratic votes. t^The trial of Kennedy, charged with complicity In the Fielding Beeler robbery, promises to be an Interesting one. John Hanna is aaelsllng Duncan In tbe prosecution, while the prisoner Is defended by Colley an : Leathers. Yesterday there waa some pretty sharp sparring between the opposing counsel and bis Honor, tbe Judge. At one time Mr. Leathers wanted to know why tbe man bad not been tried btfore. The Judge retorted that Mr. Leathers ought to know, as he was the prosecuting attorney at the time, and might have expedited matters, If he had exerted himself. The bar smiled audibly, at this, and tbe general Impression seemed to be that tbe Judge had Mr. L. where the hair was short. If So, Why NoTf—Persons who ettended the late primary election held by our “loyal” fellow-citizens missed the familiar countenanoasof Buaz, Luomls.Djuglass, Allred, and Batty, wall known election officers, who annually ornament the Court House windows whenever there Is a real election. Why Is this thttsf These men are familiar with election business. They are experte. In fact, and their employment as Judges, clerks, Ac., would faellltate business. Then why are they not employed? Simply because our radical friends are afraid to (nut them. These men are valuable where the contest Is between Republicans and Democrat*. Etch one Is worth hli weight In gold, and when the entire force li on. It is pretty safe to bet on a Republican majority, large or small, as tbe exigencies of the time* may demand. But when the light Is among themselves—wheu robust patriot* are having a little friendly scramble for the •polls—not a Bosz, a Laomls, a Douglass, a Batty, or an Allred, le admitted within the ■acred precincts of the Court House. The patriots know them too well. They dare not trust them. Yet they Insist that they are all honest men, and will deal fairly in elections— that is In real elections. For primary election! they are not exactly “the chee«o.” ET’Meteorologicai reports for the Indianapolls Academy of Medicine, by W. J. El.tun’ M. D., meteorological commutes: Barom. Dog Collars. — Gorgeous paper cellars, highly niunrtnsted t wnh picture* of doge, horse*. Rons, tigers, dragons, griffins, and other fabulous monsters, are much In vogue with certain citizens, Identified with active and muscular Interests Recently we noticed a “bloody butcher,” engaged In cutting perterhonee steaks from tbe nook of a dead ox. Upon his shirt cellar appeared two azure bull dogs, rampant. A fractional friend of our—the ninth fraction of a man—suggests that the butchers work up.all of adogbut the collar;add thrtttoy make available a»as article of personal clothing. If any bnther gets mad at Shis bit of pleasantry hs naedu’t shake bis gory locks gt us. We’ll point out the tallof. fnr We call the attention of our readers to the card of Messrs. George Crawford A Co., No. 809 Walnut street^ Cincinnati, the only importers ot soda ash, sal soda and caustic soda west of New York, la which they have a very extensive trade. They also have a large trade In foundry facings, plaster, lime, cement, sand, pummtee atone, reeln, etc. Parties who have dealings with the above named house will find them gentlemen of the first class, and atrietly honorable. tidf The Journal publishes a column or two of extracts and comments, to show that the Southern people are In a very nnaatfsfactory and unsettled state of mind. This Is very much like an Incendiary gloating over tbs ravages of the fire he has lighted. E3““How dear to me that flower,” la a very pretty piece of poetry, bat scarcely salted to our column*. Besides, they don't spell how with a “w,” nor angel with a “gle” now-s-days. If our contributor finds flour so very dear let him run awhile on corn meal. gry Indianapolis is a good place for ahowa to ‘'bust up.” The Hanlons and the Zuifretta StegrUt Combination, have disintegrated within the past ten dsya. Numerous panoramas and negro minstrel troupe* have gene to pieces here within the past five years.

Union White Boyb in Blue.—I’ureuact to notice the above named organization met In tbe rooms of the Youog Man's Democratic Rooms, anTorganlzed by electing Colonel J. W. Blake, Chairman, aa>l Lieutenant W. C. Morlarty, Secretary. The Colonel elated the object of tbe organization, and said that altbougb political,U was by no means a secret one. lie also stated that the chief reason for its object was to counteract tae Intrigues ot that secret order known as the “Grand Army ot the Republic,” and to assure the people of Indiana that their rights at the ballot-box would be protected. Over fifty men signed tbelr names t} the roll, and although there were more than tbe necessary number present toorganlza a company,it was deemed advisable to deter electing officers until next Saturdsy night. During the evening tbe company were euicrtained with fine martial music by Mr. Michael Beaton, late fli'e mijor of Iho FurtUth Indiana. Among tbe names enrolled are those of about thirty officers, and from present indications we are satisfied that tbe “Colon White Boys in Blue” will be a “big thing.” m ■ ^ 1’olice Court.—This department of our city government was pretty well patronize 1 ye.terday. George Branford gtts fiftcea days In jail, not having tbe “quills” to pay bis line. The carrying of concealed weapons was also alleged and proven against George, which ados somewhat to tbe term of his retirement from public life. Josh. Se it in, a concealed weapoblst, was fined $8 SJ. There seems to have been some trouble among tbe Keualeri, as we find that Michael and William were tried on a charge of having maliciously trespassed upon Julia Breouan.'by beavlog a dornkk through her window, and Marla was charged with selling benzine to a dissipated minor. As they were all discharged, we infer that they were more sinned against than sinolog, or else tbe proof was weak. Mollle White was festive, drunk and disorderly, for which she pa d $10 70. John Higgins paid fit 40, and John Shea $0 80for the same offense, and Andy Shryock look bis grief in tbe shape of a little county Jail. There seems to have been a little trouble between Jenny Dally andAlic*8t. Clair, In tbe course of wblcb Miss St. C.’s wardrobe was rended to the extent of one dollar. Toe aggressor paid $6 10.
