The bodies were not trealed indecently, except that they were carted like logs of wood, in order to get a full load, as there was only one wagon. The officers and soldiers frequently came to the graveyard and upbraided them for not burying the dead iu better style, eaving they ought to work night as well as day. There were not more than 30 men employed in burying the dead, and in vain they had endeavored to procure more help. Adjourned. Important Decision of Judge Holt. Ntw Yore, Sept. a. The Heralds Washington epic al Fays: Erlv iu the war a number of additional aides de camp was provided for by act of Congre-s, to be assigned to staff duty itb Major Generals throughout the service, the object being to build up a corps of competeut officers for staff duty axclusively, something after the plan ol the staff corps of the French army. Appointment were accordingly made by the President, End aids at first assigned to duty in the regular, although mny were subsequently transferred to volunteer commanders. Congress alterwards provided for giving three months' additional pay to volunteer ofliccra when honorably discharged from service, but Judge Advo cate General Holt decides that, owing to the technical working of the law, this corps of additional aids beloug to the regular army, and is Dot entitled to the extra compensation, although they may have been mustered io the same day atid served ide by tide of the volunteer officers', aud received honorable discharges of the same' d tte. This obviously was cot tbe intention of framers of the Uw, but the opinion is sustained bv the At'juuut U moral of the army aud the Secretary of War. Molt of this cirps is mastered out, bnt the sime construction of the law that denies ibeiu extra coueasaticn. should, in justice to all cr.( trned, retain them ia the service The attculion cd Congrs ill probably be called to the subject at an earlv dav. This change was effected at tbe suggestion of his physician, who said his health was suffering. Wertz' condition is such, should his trial continue another month, he wilt die. Tbe subordination of military to civil authority in Massachusetts, meets with Secretary Seward's hearty concurrence. The Commercial's Washington special says: Tbe elements of a fierce political excitement are apparent. The New York Democratic nominations and the Weed, Greeley, Blair quarrel seem to precipitate events, and a grand explosion, leading to new political combinations of a most in portant character may be expected.
Slavery lit Ueorgla. Nxw York, Sept Ü A correspondent ef tbe World, writing from Macon, Georgia, says: Tho people of tho South are very nearly, if not quite, as much united on tbe subject of slavery as the people of tbe North They regard tbe institution as dead and buried, and never to be rct-ur reefed. They have probably a correct appreciation of the power of the United States army at the present time, and so satisfied are they that slavery is eternally gone that they know that all the bayonets at the command ot General Grant could not place it where it stood four years sgo. The msjotity of the people recognize iu theresuit of the war, a divine purpose to abolish slavery. If the question was now submitted to the people of Georgia, they would by a large majority vote for its abolition. Election of n Illsliop in Trnnenrereaf ruction of a Freedmen' HcUool llOUkO.
