Our suggestion yesterday, in regard to having the canal liüeJ up from Market street to Pogue'a Run, and Mi-ouri etreet levelel to correspond with the other atreets of the city, meet with great favor among the owners of property and resident of the Fifth Ward. They know that the property in their ward would be enhanced in value by this move, and that the health of the citizens would be Nrgely benefitted, if it i carried out. Wc have, thia morciDg, another rUgetioa to make that we think will accomplish all that can be desired by the improvement, would receive the sanction of the Canal Company, and prevent the delay of legal proceeding in improving the street. Oar plan h this: Tho city must have cwerage The bed of the canal is aufSciently low aij the fall from Market street eufficirntlj great to drain all the c'.tv west cf Meridian street Let the Council build a sewer along the bottom of the csnal, from Market street to Pogue'a Run, sufficiently Iari to pna all the water uged by Sheets' mill, and to carry off the drainage of the etern psrt of the t ilj. Thi sewer might be ll.ree or four fet high, and a wide a? nece-ury f-r the purpose. At the intersection of every street acd alley let the water of the city Hjw into the sewtr from the gutter?, or from other t ni!r sewers, if thought necesjary. By this arrangement the wane waur and filth of the city could be cirricd under ground to Toque's Ilun, at a point out of the city and where it could hare no bad effect, as the water from the m.!l piling through it would keep up a current thit would carry the filth fieely a:.d keep it clean an l pur? The arch or sewer would save r large !!. and would not cost much more than to fall it with cirth. Over tb is arch tbe earth can be placed, and the street leveled for tho frea ptaige of all kind of trtvel. In our judgment, tin plan is entirely practicable and can be .ic cumpIisUe.l, if tha citizens of the ward set to work in be right way. The property owner on lUiuoi street are interested in this movemen1, and ehould aid in carrying it out, as a sewer along Maryland or Georgia street to the cnal pewr, would relieve that street of the hotel filth :ilraKo alr-Llne llnllrond mrctlnar A large number of delegates from the counties on the line of this proposed road Iroio Indianapolis to Chicago, met in the rooms of the Ciiitnber of Commerce, in this city, on es letdiy, the 2ih int The Cfiv-ntiou, was organize! by tho iif p)irita:ent of Dr. W R Nofhinger. ot Matit.n couMt, President; Mesra. The pine lauds of the South offer greit advantage to labor and capital and will be a g'eil source of wealth. Mills are needed and men to direct them. The draft animals are goue aud labor is pretty well deraoralizjd There is needed sn infusion of Northern euterpri-e, of men skilled in managing free laborers and who comprehend the relations of a system so unfamiliar to tbe South.
