Tbe subject of establishing a society for tbe purpoaeof obtaining cneaper groceries i now being agitated. Such societies have been established io Cincinnati, Chicago, and nearly all our principle cities by the laboring men, and enable them to etve at !ei.t ten per cent. Tbe practicl operation of such societies i- as follows: A sulli:ient number of men form themelve into a league and agree to purchase their groceries at anv reliable house that will agree to sell, in consideration of the increased trade, at. say ten percent, discount on regu'ar market price Tbo bociety i-ue tickets and sell them to it members in quantities as desireJ, giving eleven dollars worth for ten dollars In par cha&iü. the member pay lor their groceries in tickets at the regular price, and the society re dee ira the ticket for the grocer each week The increased trade enables him to sell at ten (.er cent, off, and still make tbesame, or, even greift er profit. This subject is worthy of consideration by our Citizen. A nice little sum can thus be s ive J each year. Te:i per cent, on $300 or yj)Q would be a sivlng of $30 or $.rU a year. It H a notorious fact that croctrics and piovirfioi at retail are higher in this city than in the em tiler towna or larger cities around us. Whether this is due to a want of enterprise or avariciouneon the part of our retail grocer, zr bo'.h. we are unable to ay. On the other band tbe wholesale grocery market ot this city has a re;utatii;n as to facilities and cheapness, all thiegs considered, second to none in the Weit.
Not a cr Third Serie. on 7 30 's sow Read-. The demand for the Second Series of the 7 20 Note9 were bo great that the Treasury Depirk ment was nnable to print them with sufficient rapidity to fill the orders. It will be remenbered that a hundred millions were ubcribq-l and paid lor in a single week. The printing rree hive finally surmounted the difficult , and on W ednesday, June 7ib, the delivery of the Third Series commenced, and w ill be continued with tbesame promptness that marked the supply of the cote of the First and Second rie. It has been this interruption of delirery it tbe time of subscription which has ßiven the appearance of a falling off in the popular taking of the loan, the great body of small takers beiir unwilling to pay tbc-ir money unless they receie their noto. in hand, to carry tbem home. It is expected that after this week the daily subscription to the Seven Thirties will run up into mil-lion-, a they will undoubtedly be stimulated by the opening of the Farmers wool markets Ka;t and West. It i not ut all likely iht the Go ernment will ever again offer so desirable a curity a3 these notes, and about two hundred million only can be ttken. , With the close of the war the nalion.il expeice will be va6ily reduced, and investors mufit look for a sharp reduction in the rate of interest as soon a the present loan becomes due, and can t.e paid off There i no reason why the United States credit for money sbould ever agan tall below its credit for courage. The'rjarae spirit that preserved the geographical integrity of the coin try will r lace its pecuniiry Integrity on a nir with that of the mol favored botious and thit will represent a ru'eof intere-? under ratber than over four per cent. The Forties Monroe conepoudcut of the Philadelphia Inquirer, st)s that for sometime a mutinous spirit has cx ited in the colored ctvalry brigade belonging to the Twenty faftb Corps, the meu declaring that the Government had no right to eend them to Tei . Ou tbe lt2tb,wben ou board the steamer, this spirit of discord took the form of open tnu tiny, when a vessel was run up to one of the wharves of the fortress for assistance. Two companies of the Third Pennsylvania artillery were sent aboard, under command of Major Schilling 0:i approaching tbe vessel they threatened to fire. Tbe Major resorted to strategy, and re turning to the wharf, had the mutineers brought abore under the euns of his men, in parties of two and three at a time.
