I kucw nothing of their plan I defy the evidence in the Bureau of Military Justice. The proof, whttcver it is, is tissue of falsehoods, and Its publication cannot be made without exposing its utter rottenness. There was no nerd of cSkring $25,000 reward for my arrest. If I felt the lest assurance of Wein tried according to the recognized principles of law, without a pr judgment; without the arbitrariness of a Court acting under the instructioosof this "Military Bureau of Justice," and without contumely, I would go in person lud deliver myself np to the proper judicial authorities Until I have such an assurance, I think 1 ought to keep out of the way, which no doubt will crttify ray enemies. The fresident-The Mi er man - Jobitksn Armlticc lingllSl Hopes of Clemency Toward the Conquered Soutli. From the Lon4oo Tune?, May 9.J We must infer that General Sherman was to be more or less superseded, for not only are we told that Grant was about "j erponally to direct the operations against Johnston," but Mr. Stanton hts apprised other Federal commanders that they are to disregard all orders (perhaps only those ia reference to tbe armistice) from that General, so lately the hero of the war. Mr. Stanton attributes to General Sherman's blunder the escape of President 1) ivis with a Urge sum of money, and the benefit of the truce has already been claimed by three Confederate Generals taken rrisoners at Macou, in Georgia. We are not dispo.-ed to blame the view taken, under the circumstances, by the Federal Government. As to the general riht of the supreme power in a State to rescind an armistice, if it can be so called, of this kind, no doubt whatever can be entertained. Tbe power to conclude it ia not, and could not be, implied ia any Military Commission, and the agreement here bears on tbe fre of it aa acknowledgment that it was executed without any special authority. Modern history furnishes numerous instances in which Conventions falling mote r.eirly wi'.hin the scope of the General's authority than this have been d.sallowed by the sovereign. Such was the case of the treaty signed by Sir Sidney Smith for the evacuation of Egypt by the French army, and even tbe famous Convention of Cintra. it will be remembered, was formally condemned by the King. In short, the only question is not one of law. but of jKIicy. It is not whether President Johnson had a right to set aside (ten.
