i ' ' Lbr ad Capital. A coo rent too of wcrkir.g aro u beld last week io Brooklyn.at which a number of speeches were made which were of ?ery radical character. The speaker Dot only lei isted oo the old dogma Uai labor U antagonistic to capital, bat thty wrot the whol leoeth ef asserting that labo nait conquer and tubject capital before it would hae ita proper position. They demindad that laborers abould control h employer. They footed thai faborera oo ft ptrike bad aa ouch right to prevent other laborers from working aa meo ha? to prtrent an individual fron burning down his own houe. The tone a turned by the peak era and by many members of the convention waa io effect that of radical emnity to em ployere in general. It is cnrloai that these men seem to ignore ea tirely the poibility that they may themselves become employer. The men who deal io thi d&M tf argument mut be hopelc of any cnaDge in. their own poaition. Bat whether tbey re or cot, ibey are only laying up a tore of pain and trouble for ' themsel?es, and we moataiccerely regret to ee workingmen m'n!ed by the Mlj of luch ffcakeM at their public meetings. It is a noteworthy f ict. however, that thee contentions never represent otic fifth, probably not one-tenth of the workingmen of the country. The Hborin elisor of this country are in general too sennible to be mi-led by the 1emaggim of the orators who repeat old ami hackceyed phrae at such public meetirg, without even undemanding them. The fact i, that the honet, faithful laborer iu Arrerict alwayi lern tbat hia iuterext re iJeiitical with thore of hi ( employer, and the result is a relation of content- J men! between the two with muto-l f roperity. When the laborer is mi.iled by foolish adnaers to j-!u in a strike, he U sure to regret it afterward. The result of atrike is invariably hostile to the strikers Thi has beenyrove a hundrsd time. Cut, after all, the secret of the mistake b eb some laboring meu m ike may be iu their failure to define labor, or to distinguish between the workingrjun arid the capitMt. The riraple truth is. that the employer M very often by far the hardest laborer. Few men work eo many bouri per day, or so bird during those tours, as the men who have the largest comber of other men employed for them. The value of that work U almost Derer fully paid. There is only one man in ten or twenty who realizes at the end of years of euch work the actual cost ofclothca and litin. Let workingmeu ponder on this truth. There ia lewon in it for them. They aitly err when they imagine that capital work for Itself and the owner rests idle. They vastly err when they think that the men who manage capital are always rich, comfortable, and at e&e in their poisen-ions. The histories of capitalist would astound the workingmen if they would but read and think of thera. And let the question be plainly set before the workingmen hi met at the Brooklyn convention, whether it i. not as rizht for tLoe b labor with capital and their beads to combine for wage as it is for thoe who work with their hands and heavj tool. What i their answer? Of course their right !a the came. But t-h.ill the managers of capital conbiLe and any " we will not pty more than a certain rate tary nitn- we emploi?" What becomea of the day laborer then? And yet if the day laborers combine to compel wages out of employers, on Lit plea ran they resist the right of employers to combine for the purpose of increasing their own eiruing! by rompellinj laborers to work for le wages? We cordially mid treriuoudy oppose nil combination of employer or 1 borer to regulate the price of labor. We can see pltidv enough the dinner of all such comin itiona, arid onr ex perience hn convinced us that no good results to either party iu either ce. Tbe present rate of wage in all department a is high. The price of living in hlh. The prices which emplover receive for their workmanship and the products of labor are high Thu all things work in a circle But when prices lor the producta of labor break down, theo perforce the prices of labor will break down, and all the striken, trade union, conventions of working men and committees of laborers that can be inTeuted will fail to keep those prices up. It is jul as possible (or the laborers to keep up the prices of lnlor aa it is for the dealers iu the re suiting products of labor to keep up the price of those producta. When tbe manufacturers of cotton goods c u prevent the price from falling twenty, forty and fifty per cent, in a mouth, then the factory operatives may learn how to preveut the rate of wages from falling When the laborer learns how to keep butter, and Hour, and beet from rising in price ten. twenty or a hundred per cent, then the employer may possibly invent a a way of keeping waes from risiug. Rut ubtil these discoveries are mtde combinations of employers or of operatives will only result in trouble, occasional riots and broken he id, with a great deal ot grief and to good to any one. N. Y. Journal of Commerce. Mate trioii tu Franco. M. de Tocqtievil'e, in a chapter dated 1st ol April, gives au account of a conversation bo bad with a former councillor of täte, who is called "M X .," on tbe condition ot the state prisoners under the first empire. 11: I formed part," faid M X , " of a very numerous promotion of auditors of the council of state We drew lots for the different ministerial departments to which we were to be attach'ed, and 1 fell to that of police, then unJcr the directiou ot St ry, d ike of Ilrao. I retuicd. tut mildly, though I did not for ft it the good will of the minister, who sometime at ter aid to me, "I have another employment to ! offer joj. i he emperor has just created by de ere fight state pn.-ons; but his view have not been al! carried out. We were to begin by examining Vincennes, where it wai supposed things were better managed than eUewhere; and Vuicenuen we were to Uke, iu some sort, as a mod el. We bad not to viit the prisoners, or even to inquire about their names or history, but merely to ascertain how thing were going on in the management of thoe houes. Diseases and Conditions Peculiar to Females. The beauty and extreme delicacy of the female organization, to ay nothing of its physiological charactt-ris-ticH, are sntlicient lii'licatiotis tbat it is sub'ect to forms of disease and modifications peculiar to itself. The physician of the present day does not encounter any more furms of uterine diaes than did the physician of fifty years a; but owiii to the present social condition of woman, her diseases are increased to frequency, and to the truth of this asertion the melancholy deaths by consumption bear ample witness. At the American Dispensary wa treat by a new method, and with the happiest result, Trolapsns Cterl, (falling of the wromh,) Eruption of tbe Skin, Chlorosis, or Green Sickness characterized by yellow Ub, dirty green pallor of the surface; Emansio Messium, or abseut Men.-truation; Amenorrhea, or Ketei.t on of the Menses; Dysmenorrhea, a painful and difficult flow of the Hcnse; Menorrhagia, or profuse Menstruation; Leuchorrhea, 01 excessive and altered secretion of the mucus generally w hite, or nearly coloress and transparent. Header, I have given you a class of diseases that are met with in Females of all age, whether married or unmarried; and to married Females would say that there are many otb r forms of diseases peculiar to your sex diseases of Pregnancy, Parturition, aad Lactation, of which space will not admit an elucidation. I omit it for the council chamber, adding but ane more disease to tbi list, aud tbat is a formidable one TJlcerrlion of the body of the Uterus. If you are afilicted with organic weakness, or any assemblage of morbid pbeuomeua of tbis character, yen have no time to spare, but at once apply for md cal a d. If to' late to arrest the disease, it is at least possible to palliate the symptoms, aud tbuaemootbe the pathway to an untimely grave. In a majority c f instances these diseases hare made considerable proeres Lefre the paiient becomes alarmed. In some caes an emaciatiou is tbe first indicator tbat attracts the attenti n of tha patient's friends. And here, reader, let me call your earnest attention to the fearful significance o the word "wasting." It not only constitute tbe leading feature, but the earliest and mt ominous symptor s of Consumption, examples of which are invariably met with in young ladies bo are gifted with high intellectual endowments, refined ac-comp'i.-hments. and eyes fashing with unnatural brilliancy not regarding the.e indications as being thoe of incipient disease, but those 01 personal charm. That honor belongs ta the native inhabitants of Central America, to wbm its virtues have been know n for more than two hundred years. Armed with it, the Indian bids derlauce to the most deadly malaria and handle without fear the most venomous serpent. Iti a belief with them, that w hile there is breath in tbebod.v the Cedrou is potent to cure, no matter what the isess may te. While Dr. Hull is not prepared to endorse this extravnKant pretension, he i nevertheless sati.ned from a thoroujja exarainaticn of the evidence reliting to its virtues, that as a remedy and preventative of all diseases arising from exposure, either to change of weather or cliJiate, or to miasmatic influences, it stands WITHOUT A RIVAL! And Justly deserves the reputation it has so long enjoyed in Central America and the West Indies. IN DYSPEPSIA And its attendant train of symptoms It acts more LIKE A C11AKM than a medicine. There is nothing in tbe whole range of Materia Medica that can for a moment bear a comparison with it in this disease. A full account of this wonderful plant may be found In the 1 Ith edition of the U. S. Dicpensatory, pages I3ü7 and !3a3.
