Bipoarto KXPtcmLr rot tie iailt itati iimirtL 3XOItrVIIVC HKPOltT. GENERAL NEWS, DAVIS1 ESCAPE IMPOSSIBLE OUR HOMEWARD-BOUND TROOP. The March Through Richmond. THE ASSASSINATION CONSPIRACY. TERROR OF THE WITNESSES The Moxicun lSxlteiiitiit Eosecrans to Command in Mexicos Ac. Ac., Ac , Ac. Ac i rom .cv York. Nlw Youk, May ID. The Times' Washingtoil epec"ul of May 9 pays: The capture of Jeff D-tvis is dow looked upon b tlsO milititry authorities as certain. In adJitioii to the particul-tis of bii whereabout, the following was telegraphed last eight: It U now kuowrj that David and the two divisions of cavalry with him are eo completely f nveloped by Stonemao, Wilson and Grierson, that escape is impossible, except as a disguised and solitary fugitive. The latest intelligence received indicates that it is probable that (iriersou, who commands the cavalry under Canby, will succeed in capturing Jelf. Daria in his tlight across the AUbama river. The march of the homeward bound armies continues with unabated vigor. Meade's veteran columns had hardly made their grand march through the conquered capital of the rebellion before the ctmp-lires of Sherman's legions lighted up the banks of the James river. The advance of Meade's troops was to day in the vicinity of Louisa Court House, ,nd id expected to camp near Alexandria by Saturday night. Sherman's four corps are expected to pass through Richmond to-morrow, acd they will pre?s the armj of the Potomac hard on the homeward march. Sheridan' cavalry left Petersburg yesterday. And will move overland to Alexandria. The main part of the force will come to this vicinity, and will probably undergo reorganizttion at once. One brigade of cavalry will be left at Lynchburg, another at Danville and another at Petersburg, which will patrol the country, preserve order and punish outlaws. The Times' Washington special Bays: The evidence against Davis A Co. is to be sent to all our ministers abroad together with a description and photographs of the fugitives. Gen , Grant has ordered the several corpj commanders to rccommerd a certain number of meritorious cfllcers for promotion in the regular array. A special dispatch to The Tribune says the representative of the christian commission who paid their repects to Lee have been dismissed. One year soldiers are tobe returned to their respective states and mustered out of service at once. The witnesses in the a?i filiation case are panic stricken, fearingassassination in case they give their testimony. One of them yesterday made a verbal statement to the secretary of war iu relation, to the complicity of Thompson , Sudcrs and the rest, but positively refused tp appear before the court unless his name, residence aud testimony should be frupproHfd and newspaper reporters be excluded from the court during the examination. This was conceded to him, but it h believed he Las fled north in another panic. Special Dispatch to The Herald. The streets of Kichmoud were on Saturday last a scrnc of miniScent and spirited military pageant, an illustration of the power aud greatness of our government and the indomitable power of its defenders. The Mower of the army of the Potomac the 2d and 5th corps, er-joyed the highly appreciated privilege of mirching through the city to which their brave efforts for four years have been directed. The 2J and Tuh corps were received in Richmond by the 24th corps and the moving column presented a eplendid array of 5,000 men, whose uteady lines, faultless marching, bright bayonets glistening in the eun, battle torn and wir stained flags, formed a ppectacle r.ot soon to be forgotten by the beholders. It id expected that the march from Richmond to Washington will ocenpy about tea or twelve days. The Herald says that th Mexican emigration excitement increases The ofiicer for enrollment id unable to accommodate the applicants. Two more offices are to be opened. There is a ger.eral rush of discharged cllicers and men to be enrolled The Mexican (Jen Ortega is highly delighted with the prospects. It is said the west has subscribed large sums of money to the enterprise, and that 25,000 men are to be raised there to be commanded bv Gen. Rosecrans.
