HIS STRUGGLE WITH THE ASSASSIN Reception of Lee in Richmond. CONVENTION IN N. CAROLINA. Public Meeting in Cincinnati. Ac. See. Ac . Ac. Ar. from Vnhlnston. NS'abhixjIon, April 13. George P. Kobin sod, a soldier and rjurse, who was in attendADC oo Secretarj Seward oa Fridaj eight. Las related circurnntanciillj the proceedicga ia the chamber, from which it appears that it was through hia brave and determined eudeavors that the codtummatioo of the murderous deigDs of the fiend were frustrated. According to iiubiasoo's narrative, Frederick Seward, Major Seward and Mr. Hansell were all wounded oa the sttirwar, as heretofore mentioned in the correspondence. Ai HobinBon opened the door to learn the cauie of tile disturbance without, the man struck at his breast. In h:s band ho had a long knife, the blade of which appeared to be about twelfe inches in length and one inch in width. Robinson determined to oppoe his progreM. and raised hii arm to p irrj the blow, in cot sequence of which a wound as inflicted in the centre of hin forehead close to the hair, which he weara turned back. The knife glanced and the clenched band in which the ram held the dagger came down upon Mr. R ibinsoo'a face and felled hiai to the floor. Mm Seward at this juncture escaped from the rojm and ran to the front window, acreamirg "Murder." The AMaMin leaped to the bed where Mr. Sew ard ley, Ptill apparentlj in a helplejs condition, and gave a tremendous blow at bU face. He misled hia mark, however, and almost fell acror-s Mr Seward's bodr. Bv this time Robinson bad r-covered, and jumped on the bed and caught hold ot the as?siu's arms. While he was thus attempting to hold the assafain, the latter struck Mr Seward on the left side of the fare, and theo on the right Kiile. Tbej both pot on their feet, Robinson still keeping a firm hold of him. The assassin reached his arm over Robinson thoulder and endeavored to lorce him to the floor. Finding be' could not handle Kobinon in this position, he dropped his position which had been forced against Robinson's face in the hand which was around his neck, caught hold of Rabin son's right arm with his left band and struck behind Robinson with the knife. The? still continued to struggle for a few mo ments, Robinson forcing him towards the door, which was open, with the intention of throwing him over the bannister, When thej had nearly reached the door. Major Augustus Seward entered the room. Robinson called on him to take the knife from the. assassin's hand. Major Seward immeiiatelj clutched the assassin; the latter then struck Robinson on the stomach, knocking him down. He then broke away from Major Seward and ruhed down stairs. During the scuffle, when, he cannot sy, Robinson received a wound, quite serious, sorre in- hew in breadth. on the tipper part of the right shoulder blade, another a little lower down oc the same side, and a slight one on the left shoulder, while struggling with the man near the bedside. He had seized the wrist of his right band, in which wan the dagger, and did cot release his hold until knocked down by the assassin near the door, and after Major Seward had come to his as-istanco. He returned to the room after he found the a.xsäin had escaped, and found that the secretary bad got off the bed and on to the floor, dragging with him the bed clothes and was lying in a pool of blood. Upon going to the secretiry, he found no pul-e in his wtijt, and stated to Miss Seward, who had reentered the room and asked if her father was dead, that he believed he wa. Upon a second examination, Robinon ascertained that hi heart was still beating. Tbe secretary then said: "I am not dead; send for the police." The surgeon then closed the house, and placed the secretary on the bed, telling him he must not talk. Mr. Seward did not speak after that. Mr Robiueon remained with Mr. Seward until II o'clock tbe next morning, when he was removed to the Douglas hospital. Every attention ie being paid to thi brave man by the attendants of thi institution, and his condition is very favorable. The rcmiins of the president will probubly be conveyed from Washington on Thursday morning to Illinois by way of Baltimore, Philadelphia Ntw York, Albany, Buffalo, Cleveland and Toledo. The time schedule has not been determined, but it is believed about one week will be occupied in reaching Illinois. Late last night a man. d'sguised as a laborer and carrying a pick on bis shoulder, approached the bouse occupied by the family of Sunatt, in this city, and was about to enter, when he was arretted, and upon waxbine the dirt from his face he proved to be quite a different looking person from what his appearance indicated. Ue called himself Payne, and exhibited not a little embarrassment. He managed to ak ia agitated tones, why he was arretted. The colored servant of Secretary Seward was sent for, when she exclaimed immediately: "That's the mm. I know him by his general appearance and his mouth." The servant then said there could be no mistake in the man. Others in Secretary Seward's house at the time, who probably have a recollection of Su ratt's appearance, will be afforded an opportunity in recor.iz'rg him. Tbe man arrest J is believed to be Sunatt. wbo perpetrated the dreadiul act in Seward's houe on Frida. from Cincinnati Cincissati. April IS In response to a call of a number of prominent citizens a Urge meetirg was held at Pike Opera House lat evenMayor Harris, chairman of the meeting, said there bad been a disposition prevailing among some persons to use the terrible calamity which has befallen us as a pretext to raie a disturbai.ee. Up to the present time, although some property bad been destroyed, no lives had been lost. He favored law and order, and would enforce them at all Lsnrds He hoped the people of Cincinnati bad sutScient confidence in Gen. Hooker aLd himself to know that they would arrest and punib any oe who would row utter a d:loyal sentiment. Appropriate resolutions were passed, after which speeches were made by Judge Stover, Messrs Perry, Chalfant, Gaddis, Noye?, and Gen. Carry. Tbe c iv ia still draped tu mourning, and busicesi cot fully resumed, but confidence is almost restored and a Letter feeling prevails. A committee of eix gentlemen baa been appo'bted to communicate with tbe proper authorities in Washington for tbe purpose of having tbe remain of tbe president paastbroajb, Cmcixtaati whaa ta rouu for Illinois.
