Tin II lair Peace .TIiioii. INDIAN TROUBLES IN COLORADO. &C Ac. Ac., Ac From Mew York. Niw Yoai, January 10. The HcTald'a Cilj Point correspondence of the 8th says Butler baa been removed by the president from the position of commander of the armj of the Jamea and the department of Virginia and North Carolina, and ordered to report at Lowell, Massachusetta. The official document in the case directed him to turn over ha command to the person named by Lieutenant General GraDt, as bis temporary sue censor. General Ord, lately in command of a corps, has succeeded temporarily to the important position. The Tribune pays that Blair, ir , is in Richmond, and goes specially to see what can be attained In the way of peace. The Tribune thinks that he will not succeed, and urges filling up our army and inak'iDg short work of the rebellion Blair is not clothed with any power from our government, but wo infer he is authorized to ascertain whether any treaty of peace it now at tsinable. The Herald's Washington correspondent detail a conversation with a man recently Ironi Richmond who eays: The rebels are busy preparing for evacuation. Much government property has been already eent off to the interior, and that Jeff. Davis has become convinced that he cannot hold the city. Late rebel papers show that Davis has now on band several quarrcla with the governors of Mississippi, Georgia and Alabama. The Richmond Whig thinks that the recent alleged peace mission of the two Blairs entitles the United States to be considered the most impudent nation that ever had an existence. The Charleston Courier pays Ilood has butchered his troops as recklessly as, according to The Richmond Sentinel.ever Grant did. The Richmond Whig prints testimony from a Savannah clergyman before Generals Wayne and Beauregard that the reported atrocities chsrgedupon General Stoneman's army at-Mil-ledgeville, are wholly unfounded. The ladies of MilledgeviMe also write that no euch violence was ever attempted. The Richmond Examiner ridicules the citizens' meeting at Savannvh, saying that it was only composed of seventeen persons. From Julesbtii-ff. J L'LESBURG, Colorado, January 9. On Satur-' day morning a party of ßiity Indians attacked the overland mail express coach, three miles east of here, and robbed the mail express. Tbey also attacked a mule train close by, kill ingone man and wounding another. The troops at the military post here, numbering from 50 to SO men, immediately started to the relief of the white settlers iu the vicinity, and drove the Indian tu the bluff, a mile back, where the Indians were reinforced to the number of 1, 500, and turning, drove the troop back to the post. The Indians then entered the stage station, in large numbers, and after destroying all the furniture and breaking all the windows tn the building, set tbem on fire. Tbey also destroyed a large amount of telegraph. A well directed fire of musketry from our troops soon drove them from the station. In the running fight, on the retreat of our troops, thirty-five Indians were killed, including the principal chief ; nineteen soldiers and citizens were killed. A general massacre aud destruction of the white was only prevented by the perseverance and bravery of our troops and an efficient artillery fire. The Indians retired in a southerly direction. This is by far the most determined incursion maae by the Indians. From Cairo. Cairo, January 9 The steamer Magenta, from New Orleans, brings the announcement of the arrival of the steamship Morning Star, with Gen. Allen Smith and ttaff. The gunboat Rattler, drifted ashore in a late storm between Vickfburg and Natchez, was fired by a gang of guerrillas, and burned tb the wa ter'a edge. Letters from Mobile to citizens of New Orleans, say fighting was going on in that vicinity on the 31st ult. The rebels were burning cotton a short distance from Natchez on the 29th. The New Orleans cotton market was completely unsettled by the news from New York. Middling was offered at $1 121.,. Sugar quietat 21j'c. Molasses $1 2U. The rebels are said to have burned the Court House during their occupation of Owensboro, Kentucky. From Fltiffalo. Buffalo, January 10. There is a severe snow storm prevailing here. It will probably impede railroad travel. Weather mild. The Jews in thU country have shown a fall share of patriotism t-iuce the war begun. From Ohio 12,000 have gone to fight for the union Msg, from New York 10,000. from Illinois 5.000, from Michigan and Wisconuin 3.000, and from other states enough to make a total of 30,000 MARRIED LADIES "."fTTHOSK health will not adroit of an tnerea of V family send a rel stamp for DR.
