The colt, weak and immature, begins to show signs of giving cut about the time the middle of the stream is reached, and men on the opposite bank cry out to the Dutchman ti seize the ni ire's tail and telieve the colt, or he will be lost. Looking anxiously about him, and seeing the mire's tail beyond his reach, he tightened his grasp on the colt's caudle extiemity, and replies to his intere-ted neighbors, that "this no place to swap hor-cs." The iesn.lt, o course, is, that Dutchman and colt sink to what the novelists term a "watery grave." We are left to inter that the col: represents the almost exhausted Government, and the Piosident, the drowning Dutchnun. It is not strange that his re-nomination should have called this story to mind. The nuestion for the people is whether theie is not some wav to save the colt. tit-ot-ouicAL Discovery ix Montcomfrt Coi ntv Mr. Editor' Recently, a eutiosity of much interest, in the form of a cave, was discovered by the Senior Class of Waba-h College, while on a geological excursion. About one mile from this city, at a plare generally known as the Devil's Dack Hone, (a high ridge at the junction of two creeks,) there was a great land slide, occasioned by the washing ot the water, which carried away a great portion of the bank, thereby revealing a cavity about thiee feet in height, which F. C. Montfort, (one of the above Iiis,) accidentally observed, and immediately entered, finding that it expanded sis it receded from the mouth. Hut for want of suitable lights, they wcie prohibited from making any very ex tensive examinations, although since, accompanied by Professor Oweu, who was hereon a short visit, also Squire Cory, G.
