The different printing offices in the city were notified yeterday by their employees that they must receive an increase in tSe;r compensation or el.e they ou!d seek employment where they could obtain wages equal or greater thin their demands. There is a demind for printers all over the country. A large number of the craft have volunteered, hence the scarcity, and in ct nequence thereof wages hive increased in all the large cities. Such being the case, the printers he're agreed upon the following schedule of prices, and the puMishinz houses, although thev could illy afford it, bad no other remedy but to submit to the advance or quit business: Sic. 1. Composition on morning pipers.com mon matter, to beeharged at tbe rate of 45 cents per 1, 000 ems. Src. 2. The Fenian Banquet The Fenian celebration on St. Patrick's day wound up with a splendid banquet in tho evening, at their Hall. Every thing was admirably arranged; the H ill w is beautifully decorated with Ameri can and Irish fligs anil burners and the tables were most bountifully spread with choice viands and the bet of wines. The Hall was filled to overflow ing with the brotherhood and their wive', daughters and sweethearts, with a few invite.! guests. Captain Thomas Redmond, State Center for Indiana, presided at the feast and at about 10 o'clock called the assembly to order. After discussing the good things which were gotten up in John Bussey'a best style, the least ol reason and flow soul commenced. Richard Simpson. Ivq , Toast Master for the occa sion, announced the following regular seniroents. 1. "St. Patrick's Day." Upon the reading of this sentiment bumpers were filled and drank, and the entire company arose and responded iu three heartv cheers. "St. Patrick 1 Day was plaved by the band. 2. "The Fenian Brotherhood M tv the cause they espoue triumph over all its enemies." Capt. Redmond responded biiefly and cloqently. He spoke of the org iniz ition and objects of the Fenian Brotherhood. He felt proud to stand beneath the folds of the beuitiful banrcr presented to them by the ladies of Indianapolis. It was the Irish flag a dig that hid never been conquered. As 1 stind beneath its folds, iuid view on one side the Palm tree from which is Mi-spended tint soul inspiring instrument, the Harp of Erin. I cannot but denounce the Saxon tyrant through hose infamous tieachery the noble Bard of Ireland, in sorrow and tears, su--peuded it there: but the Harp und Sh-tmrock is encraved on the beans of all true Irishmen. The darkest hour is always just before day, and I think it is so with Harp. the olurnberiug of the Iri-h By your noble example, ladies, the Fenian Brotherhood will probt. We are banded together for the honor and glory of Ireland. Fur her our tears are shed, and lor her we nre willing to dare and die, if we can thus effect her liberation. Ladies, I again, in behalf of the Fenian Brotherhood, tender their sincere ihtnks to you lor what )uu have done, and when thut iav sh II arrive when the Ameiican sli ps h.dl l.u.d ten thousand of her own exiled countrymen on the I shores ol their native land to battle tor the liber ties of our beloved Eiin, with the oil tlig proud- i Iv floating o'er us. i j unite with o-ir friends in j driving eveiy Red Co t into the sea or the Sh in- ; non; and establish for Ireland her own native ; Senate, we will then bring back th's 11 ig in tri- j umph, and ask the noble 1 nlies wh h ive pre ' sen teil it to lis todiv to put on tli additional j inscription. "IRELAND IS FREE." j 3. "The Irish lubes who presented to the ; Fenian Brotherhood that de.r emblem of their j native country the green flag of Erin." Responded to hy Cornelius Kellv in thoughts j that breathed and words that b'iriied. j 4. "The United States of Americt, the home j ol tne exile 31 ay 11 ever oe me -una 01 me iree and the home of the brave.' " Music: "Hail Columbia. " H. II Young, of the Journal, said he felt highly comp'imentrd in being called on to rc- I spund to this toast, and thougn taken by surprise he could but express this one thought, that the Fenian Brotherhood highly honored the sentiment so deur to every American heart The band then played the "Red, White and Blue," after which the beautiful Misses Carnev saug it finely and were heartily appltuded. 3. "The Fenian Brotherhood of the American Army." Music: "Garryowen." Col. B. F. Mullen was called upon to respond. He begged to assure the company that he felt greatly honored to be called upon to represent these gallant men at this festivity. He had witnessed the gallantry of the Fenian soldiers on many fields, and felt proud of their conduct tried in the crucible of battle they had always come out pure gold. With all the sins charged to Irishmen, ingratitude is not one of them. When the women and children of Ireland were perching by the roadside from starvation, the British Ministry over their wine were gravely discussing the com laws and how to keep down rebellion in Ireland; but generous America sent with the white sails of her commerce relief to Ireland Irishmen will never, must never forget this. He would make a statement as true as it may appear startling. The Fenian Brotherhood had furnished more officers to our army than anv ntVior institution WmI Pntut rrt oontitil TT j VF ! ( I U V a'-' VV.XJ V ' hd two objects iu v'.ew in desiring to see Fenian in the armv the first to show their devotion to their adopted country, the second to leirn the art of war, that when the Irish bugles sounded they might strike for the nationality of Ireland. Col. R, M. Stewart being then called upon said he was an Irish Yankee, and thit he was bom in this country, but was in sympathy with the Brotherhood He offered the iollowiug toat: "The Htrp of Erin May its tones vibrate over the American Continent." 6 "Robert Emaseti Mat the Fenian Brotherhood be the firt to write bis epitaph." John Mullar.ey in respov.se eloquently recoontei thereat Oeeds of Ireland's Hero. Though Ireland boasts of many great men, none were creater than Eromett. His life is the history of Ireland. Emmett's wish ws that his epitaph should not be written till Ireland is free. No slave should write it. While his grave remains unmarked, and almost unknown, his memory shall endure forever. Though dead he yet spetketh. and his voice shall sound through all centuries and tbe Fenian Brotherhood will write his epitaph with his sword His voice still rings in our ers as it did in the ears of bis compatri 01, and it urges us to u.-e theonlv practicable means to humble England and libersteibe Gretn I.I of the Sea. A hilf a million of Irish Leirta ihrob for Ireland's liberation, and a million hands are ready to strike off the chains thit have fettered her tbee long and weary years In closing he paid a deserved tribute to the Irib ladies of Indianapolis and Chicago, worthy aistera of Limerick's fir daughters.

A Bold Rosbckt Two Thousand Dollars in Watciii ani Spectaclk Stolen. About twelve o'clock on Thursday night two men, one disui.ed, broke open the Iwck door of the premises of Ii. Simmons, No South Illinois street, dealer in spectacles and jewelry. Mr. S. was in bed alone, in the middle room. The burglars threw a blanket over the head of Mr. Simmons, n old 111 an 7'J years of age, and demanded, his money. He replied that he had only four or five dollars in his pocket. They took that, nnd also a watch from hi pocket, nd the Fpectacles from his face. They then told him if lie did not remain qiret they would kill him, and put a knife to his throat, threatening to cut it if he did not tell them where his money was; but he satisfied them be bad none but what they got. By that time they had three blankets over his head, to slide his voice. Mr. Simmons plead for his life, begging them for mercy's sake not to kill him. 'I hey then tied his legs and arms, tearing up a blanket and sheet fur hau lages for that purpoe. The robbers then broke opened the boxes in which he kept bis watches arid spectacles, and took every valuable article; also a valuable bed quilt, a suit of clothes, eight Irce, and seven m ill eilver spoous, a silver cup, silver silt and mustard spoons, and various other things. The silver was marked "R. H. S." Mr. Simmons estimate his loss at about $2.000. The robbers then lelt with their booty. After they hid gone Mr. S. succeeded in loosing one hand, with which he reached a knife, and cut the balance ol the bandages which fastened him to the bed. As eoon as he was relieved he went in search of tbe lolice, but it was some time before he could find them. In the meantime the robbers had decamped with their booty, nd no trace of them 1ms yet been discovered. Crime is on the increase 11 over the Slate, and the community ere long will be compelled to adopt some stringent measures lor self-protection. The police force of the city is entirely inadequate only two to a waul to prevent bold robberies like that we have just recorded on or.e of the most public thoroughfares, much less in the more retired portious of the city.
