After remarks on the subjects and working of the Society, collections were taken up for the en suing y ear. On morion of Mr. Gillett, seconded by Mr. Osgood, it was Itesolced, That a committee of five be appointed by this meeting to confer with the members of the City Council, and urge their providing for a Dispensary lor the poor of the city, at the expense of the City Treasury. And Messrs. Gillett, Osgood, Ray, McKernan and Fletcher are so appointed. On motion of Mr. R iy the following resolutions were adopted: In the devea-e of Lawrence M. Vance, K-q , one of the faithful members of the committee of the Society, during the past year, we have cau.e to be admonished that the time of our labor in this work of love is uncertain, and that what wc do for this service must be done quickly. The Society sincerely sympathizes with the relatives and triends of the deceased. The following resolutions were also reported: Krnoltfd, 1. That the grateful thanks of this Society be tendered to the railroad companies of this city for their generous contributions of wood for the poor, through this Society, during the past year. ij That the ministers of cvety church in the city be rcqucste I to explain definitely the object and operations d this Society on next Sab bath, and urge upou the members of their congregations to contribute liberally toward its means, both in monev and clothing; and that the citizens be requested to have their contributions m readiness lor the call of the committee on and after Thursday next. 3. That the grateful thanks of this Society be tendered to the officers of the various railroads from our city, who have aided our efforts to teliere suffering strangers, by pns?in them over their ro ids crutuously, to reach their destination. 4 That the officers of the various railroads from this city be requested to continue their liberality in taking the suffering strangers over their roads at the request of this Society; that the utmost care and watchfulne s shall be exercised in the case of recommending any destitute persons to the kindness of these officers. 5. That the Societv most earnestly advises and request the citizens firmly and uniformly to dis courage all furnishing of aid to treet begging, and in every instance of such application at their houses or on the street, they are requested to accompany the applicant to some member of the committee of the Society for relief. 6. That the treasurer and depositaries of clothing shall retort at the close ot each week to the president of this Society, the members of the executive committee who have failed, until complete returns have been received.
