U en era I Aram jo presiaing, auo au tu memueri preent The proceedings of tbe prerlom day were read, corrected an 1 approved. The Jadre Adt-ocate here preer;ted tiaaiber of letfera wb'ch bd been written hr the accuei at Indianapolis to Olr.ey Goold, Lnuiarille, Ky. After rending the letter Mjor Burnet sUleU that the Government rented the case. . The first witness ctllel for the deferte was Edward A. Smith, who testified ubtntully as follow: I live in Cincinnati. Have lirel here ten or twetve year. anJ have been in the stock bu-inea iiio-t of the time; was iriteretel in Government contracts; had one at Louisrille. I have hud lottif contracts by myäelf, and in some I hare had partner. Witness was here ahown by the J ude Advocate a number of contracts, which he rjcogn:zl as his I do not know that Hall ever piened contract.9; he did not with my knowledge. He lought contract, and that is the way he became a party. He never hi I an original contract; do rot know that he ever hd a written ainment of a contract. Most of the hores for the Louisville contract were bought at Indianapolis. During the filling of that contract I was part of the time at that point, but most of my time was pent at Louivi!!e. Mers. Taylor, Woods and Bat tn were the inspector at Louisville. Do not know that any attempt was made to put bsd stock on the Government. Wrist saw them take was all good stock, aj good as the Government take anywhere, no better nor no worse. Do not know of any attempt to in fluence the inspectors by bribe, and if there had been I would have heard of it. Do not know that II ill ever mde an attempt todjso. In regard to the $1.445 which is lound in the charge and specifications, I will pay that it wr.s for my own personal services I tout rl ill th it I thought I ans entitled to one dollar per head mi all of the stock. He at firt objected. Imt at 1 it consented. Another item of the $1.115 was for interest mi the money that I had advanced. I told Mr. Kohlass tint tht entry was for mi nr vices, Ac. To my knowledge none of that money wa pud to inspector bribes We hid about $W),(ll0 tock invested in the different contract. Our profits were about $21,000, rather m ill for the amount of money invested. I puid $l,.'i(H) to Leonard and $'J.00 to Henderson as their th-tre. These account' are only charged in one place After the closing of the root riet there were about 150 horses left over which h id leen rejecter! by the Government. Some of them wtrehippef to Cincinnati and orne to L ii:ii; ton, Kentuckv. They were afterward pent to where they had been bought. There was. stock brought to Louisvilie that I refused to offer to the Government at th.it pl tce becue I knew them to be unbound D not know that I ever pot in a hore thtt was wiml broke. I have offered hordes that had only one eve. Inspectors have al vuys taken them at both Cincinnati and Louisville I have a nlisht acquaintance with Olney GouU. He never told me that he had been instructed bv Colonel II ill to nflVr bribes to the Inspectors. For mjtelf I know nothing s re;ml Gould'i character lor truth and veracity. Have heard people say that they would not trnf him oti oath. Gould never acted or me. Gould lnd a bid feeling toward Hill, but for hat teison I do not know. The h ilano of Smith testimony hid no pnr ticul ir be iring nt on the cao. J. K Irwin, worii I live in Indi inapoM and am a hore dealer. I saw pome of the horses put in bv Mr. Hall on his Louisville contract. These ,were all of good qualitv, and were inspected bv Mr 1'iitt. Never had anv dealings with Gould, and never heard hi character spokm of. Hall' character is good. At this stage of the proceedings the court nd jourucd until Tuesday morning at 'JJ.j o'clock. Mr. Editor: Fermit some ladin, patrons of the Dnm, to answer throui:h your ajw a vs frank and candid pat -er, a theatiical criticism bv one Mr Occasional," recently primed in an evening sheet. This geniu says peak ing of the per formances at the Metropolitan, ol Tuesday of last week, that "the beautiful play of Kvadne wa produced in a style so artistic that it doerves more than a brief mention." And we are of the same opinion with Mr. "Occasion il," but we think he shows too much particularity in his remarks, as one or more rieene! better praise than he deigned to give. Mr. Riley waa very good, but he did not remind us of Macready nl a'l. And, as for Mr. Hdl'a acting, we do rot think It suffered in comparison with Mr. Riley's In our opinion, Mr. Hill is the be-t actor on tlie boards; and. a for his voice "being gu'teral, his tone unvaried, monotonous, toxi his lerliin ttiori not good," we, ladies who wirnessed "Kvadne," think Mr "Occasional' made a decided int'ikc In our opinion, we nie good judges. nJ hive a right to aiy what we think. TELECRAPHIC: f .enrrp ,iras, xvroa vaa an. tvava taanaau (For Tlornlnf Itepwrt Ree rirat Fife. 1 isrlit Report Fram rtf w York, New Tork. Ostober !. The Poot ayt by the arrival of tbe steamer Foltoo at. this port from Charleston, we have a report, apparently on good authority, that the Headqarters of Cen. Gi'more hvl leen remove! from Morria Island to Follv I-Und The continual sinking of tbe beach of Morris Iland ha rendered the removal of the Federal Headu irters.the boly of the troops and the material, a measure of convenience, while there are sanitary reasons which would ultimately be rot, trolling. There are s-tid to be other caue for the change. amon: them ia that the troops wilt not be less available in the fuureoperatioua against Charles ton if they are entirely out of range of any batteries the rebels have or can erect on Jamea Island. The recent firing from Gen. Gilmore'a batter ies, of wliicn we nave received news irom rebel source, wereditected almost eiclusively against tbe efforts that were making. and which the rebels do not diclos.e, to erect new batteries in tbe ruins of Fort Sumter. It appears that our reconnoitering boat which pnsped near the walls during the night, discovered that the girrjson was conducting extensive operations, nnu the indications were that the rebels, who were gathering in large numbers, would be occupied in etecting batteries inside the ruins. with the intention of using them when tbe works should be sufficiently advanced lo justify the re moval of the broken walls and debris which pro tected the workmen and concealed their opet alions from view. The rapid and beavv firing of our runs, it is expected, will not only stop this work, but render the rebel occupation of Sumter precarious if not impoesiMe. Gen Oilmore's operations on Morris Island are actively coin? on. The b.itterv on Cummincs' Point now shields our troops pertcctlv, while the condition of Wagner is such as to protect the troops Irom all hazird, still there are a few casu allies, all of which occur iu consequence of un necessary exposure. 1 he batteries which are designed to throw Greek fires nre now nerW completed, and the result of experiments has fhdwn that the fire may be sifely and effectively used. Charleston is within fair range of the guns already placed, and are in such numbers as will insure the de struttion of the city when they are turned upon it. This event will not take place-until other ptana are completed and the nary is ready to coojrate. Complaint against Admiral Dahlgren is uni vrr.sal. Our naval officers nnd sailors believe that Ad miral Farragut will soon take command of the fleet in Charleston harbor, and thev express the utmost conn-ience that the result of the opera tions then tindeitakei) will be successful.
