' The second volume of Messrs. Gavin A Hord' compilation of Indiana Sta uteg ha Just appeared. This volume complete their work. Its mechanical execution is ver creditable; and the kill, learning, and labor which the editor bave bestowed on it, merit the high- tt praise. None ut learixd, diligent lawyer could have produced inch a work. Tbe second volume embrace all the public statutes of lndi ma now in force upon tbe subject to which it relate, and the first all excepting the acta of the last regular and ettra nesiotis of the legislature. It i a great excellence of the compilation that a!! existing statutes on each ful ject are collected together in the aame place in these V5lutne; so that tl e reader cn we at a g'ance H tbe legislation in force n any given nubject. Take, for example, the act of 1S32, organizing Courts of Common Pleas the editor publi.-L the act at large, and they also print, in tbe form of note on the itne page containing this statute, all the acts amendatory to it which have been passed up to this time. And ntbeyhave done of all tbe other act contained in the revision of 152. The editors Lave added much to the value of these volunies especially tbe I.st by the copious and learned notes with which the volume abound. These notes lndicate much labor and lej.il acumen. Ttoy famish us, in a cancise and accurate form, with all the adjudications of our Supreme Court on thsr tatute. These adjudication being now very numerous, :he references to them in the volumes under consideration, will be of great value to the lawy r, and indeed to ell persons concerned in the Juiinistrjtlon ol justice. Tbe editor have alo referred, in their notes, to numerou decisions in otter State, made on statute similar to ours. An excellence of these volume, not to be overlooked i.s the full and accurate index appended to each. In lndi. na, there never ba been a good index to ir.y volumes o Statut, s pnMi.-hed by authority. This provoking defect has been completely remedied in the volumes under reiew; atid the se indexes will greatly lighten tbe labor of all who have occasion to look into our statutes. This i.s the first time that private enterprize Las attempted the publication of Indiana statutes. The at tempt, I do not doubt, will be sucees!,fu!, and will duly reward the learned editor and enterprising publishei.
