M STATUTES OF INDIANA. .avi A nouns ki:visio. The .secniid vlurre of Messrs. Gavin & Hord'x compiJation of Indiana Sta utt-s has Jat appeared. This volume complete thrir work. It mechanical exccuiit-ti is ver creditable; and the skill, learninz, and labor which the editors have botowed on it, merit the hiht .t praise. None but learned, diliretit lawyers could have produced such a work. The second volume embraces a'l the public tatute of Indiana now in force upon the subjects to which it relate. and the first all excepting the act of the last regtilar and extra serious of the Ieyrilature. It is a great excellence of the compilation that all existing statutes on each f ul joct are collected together in the i'aiiie place in the volumes; so that tl e reader can sec at a g'ance all the legislation in force i n any given fulject. Take, for example, the act of 1S52, organizing Court of Common riea the editors pubIiL the act at large, and they also print, in tue form of notes on the ame pape- containing this Matute, all toe acts amendatory to it which haTe been passed up to thi time. And so they have done of all the other act contained in the revision of 1S52. The editors have added much to the value of thee vol-ume"-especially the last by the copious and learned notes with which the volumea abound. The.-e note ind cite much labor and legal acumen. They f uniih rj, in a concise and accurate form, w ith all the ad'udications of cur Supreme Court on th?e statutes. These adjudications being now very numerous, the reference to them in the volumes under consideration, will be of great value to the lawyer, and indeed to all persons concerned In the administration ol justice. The editors have also referred, in their notes, to numerous decisions in other States, nude r n t.tatuttrs Mmilar to ours. An excellence of these volume, not to be overlooked is the full and accurate index appended to each. In Indiana, there never ha been a good index to any volumes of statutes published by authority. This provoking defect ha been completely remedied in the volume under reicw; atid thee indexes will greatly lighten the labor of all who have occasion to look into our Matute. This i the first time that private enteTirize has attempted the publication of Indiana statute. The attempt, I do not doubt, will be successful, and will duly r ward the learned editor and enterprizing pvblishen. Every lawyer will, of coure, purchase these volume; and every clerk, huTiff, and jutice of the peace of the State, will find it to his advantage to own them. DAVID M'DONALD. Indianapolis, June 5, 1962 The toregoing notice by Judge McDonald, of Gayix A Hord's Compilation of the Statutes of Indiana, is cot detipned a a puff of the work, but is an unsolicited commendation of the ability, accuracy, and completeness with which these volumes have been prepared. The second volume, which ha just been issued from the pras, is being delivered to subscribers a rapidly as posMble. This edition of the statutes will be found a necessity to every lawyer, Justices of the peace, and county oTicers in the State". The publication of tbe work is a private enterprize, and the publishers only hope for remuneration is In its sale to tbo for whose convenience it wan prepared. The two volumes contain about 1600 page of matter, nearly double the Quantity embraced in the tevHon of 1S52. The price of the work is fl 50 per volum. or 9 00 for tbe two voluu es. Orders addressed to the tabscriter wil receive prompt attention. J.J. RINGHAM, Junn 7th, lsC2. Indianapolis, Ind.
