There will be a trotting match for an extra pur-e this morning at 10 o'clock We continue our notices ol articles of fepecial merit. THE PLOWING MATCH. The trial on yesterday (alluded to elsewhere) resulted jji awarding the two firt premiums to the "Lagonda Agricultural Works," of Springfield, Ohio. The interest taken was very considerable and considering the very formidable competition was a great triumph. Mr. Rice, the active member and practical man ot the firm, was present explaining the practical workings of the implements. We take pleasure In announcingthat Mr. Fast, late of Alliance, Ohio, has become connected with tiic above. It making that election the proprie tors have been peculiarity fortunate, as his experience, capacity and ability will add to the benefit of the firm. PREMIUM SUGAR EVAPORATOR. The firs t premium was awarded to Blvrner, Bates & Day, in connection with C. dry & Sons, of Linn, Ind., "Cook's evaporator," with Gary's improvements. Ck's evaporator is t eil known to need commendation. It takes the premium, and bear the severest te.t everywhere Willi ihe a.lOition of the improvements of Jlr. dry, time and labor ate both saved, besides which a better article of syrupand sugar are made. Mr. Gary's improvement can be applied to any of the principal evaporators in use. PREM I CM CARRIAGES. Mers. The proprietor are among the best mechanics in the West, und we congratulate them on their success. BRiNKtanorr a co.'s reaper and selk-rarer. The first premium was awarded the above o;. yesterday, over all competition ami combinations. This result was really a ;reat triumph to the exhibitor, Mr. Johnston, who came among us as a tranger; anl considering the formidable opposi tion of aid manufacturers and the intelligence of the committee, it is a great triumoh. It is there that unsophisticated human ntture shines in its unvarnished state. The boys and girls look their love and go h and in h md from one object of interest to another perfectly uncon cerned about the opinions of others. They are happy and they do not care to conceal the fact that they are so. The hard h and of the youthful lover squeezes the willing hand of the "maiden, and they edge up to a stand and take their gingerbread snd cider, take a seat in the swing and his arm closely presses her waist; and from there they visit the fat woman and the lean man and the monkeys and listen to the music and laugh and sometimes dance with the exuberant spirits that all the sights have created, nd think that folks are green who do not enjoy life as they do. The number of shows and stand outsiie this year was not quite so large us at former lairs, but their owners, scared at the slender prospect of the first two days, worked harder, and the din and confusion of sounds exceeded any previous exhibition. The barrels of cider and lemonade, and the huge piles of gingerbread must be sold, if lungs of leather and enetgy in their use can accomplish the fact. "Here's your nice lemonade" "ladies free, and gentlemen half price""sweet eitler, two glasses for five cents, and if vou are not satisfied nt that, take a suck at the barrel" "oyster soup, smoking hot, dipped with a big ladle" "ten cents worth of thee cakes will m tke u dinner for the bigger man." buch cries as these could be heard above the sermons of tiie showmen, who from eirlv morning until latent night, repealed the praises of the monstrosities within their respective scieens. It was a lively pi ice, indeed, was the outside of our fair ground this ear. and many who stood aloof and looked on at the hurrying, laughing, merry, and evidently happy crowd, contended that it beat the show inside. ficnerul Order Io. 15. The Journal of yestetdiy complains that the Democratic township of Franklin threatened to resist the draft. They did resist the draft, and in a way that should make the Republican town-hips of Center and Decatur blu-h. 1 hey resisted it by furnishing tlieir quota ot Tolunteers, and that is the way the Democratic counties and townships have invariably done. The charge that the Den ocrats of Franklin cheer for Jeff. Divis is false. Some muddleheaded loafer, who had been drinking ride whisky till lie got snakes iu his Umts, nude the yarn and piltned it off on the Journal folk lor truth. These wholesale slanders are about placed out. Trade Palace. Person visiting the city should not fail to visit the Trade Palace. Messrs. II. A. It is the largest store in the State, and contains a complete assortment of the choicest dry yoods and household article, a combination not found elsewhere You will find there the nch-t of k ilk. worsted, woolen, and cotton goods, cloaks, furs, carpets, oilcloths, and wall paper, all of the newest styles and in the 1 ir:et quantities. Thisconcein is know n as the Stewart's of Indiana, and justly so, all will adm.t when they examine their rich and varied slock of goods. Ifi addition, the clerks are most gentlemanly, attentive, and obliging, which account in a frreat measure for the success which has attended the Trade Palace. Those who visit this rutmmotli establishment cannot fail to be p!ea?ed. Indiana News is tiieS ctii The Grentua Appeal, a Mississippi Southern Rights paper, states t iit in a recent sdirmish with the Federals one Erie Locke, who represented himself to be from Indiana, was taken prisoner. The rebel ollicers learning from papers found upon him that he was an adept in ballot box stuffing, refused to parole or exchange hi in, as they wi.-hed to make use ot his dexterity and genius in rnikjng majorities wi'.hout the aid of voters. Uon learning this greit loss ;o the Republican party of Indiana, Gov. Morton started for Washington immeliite ly to induce the military authorities to makeau exchange upon anv condition that the rebels might see fit to impose. It is somewhat doubtful whether the exch mge c;in be made before the October election, but His Excellency's "usual energy" may accomplish it, or else get a substitute. New York Stoat. This establishment, so well and so .favorably known all over Central Indiana us the great emporium for dry goods in tbe West, is abundantly supplied with all manner of choice goods. Stranpers who visit the Fair should call there, for the collection on the exhibition ground is not more attractive than the immense and richly filled rooms of the New York Store. When lighted at night its appearance is truly magnificent. But the splendor of it appear i nee is not it greitest merit or most attractive feature. What makes the establishment so extiemelr popular is that people save money by trading there. The Messrs Glenn always buy for cash and in the cheapest market, and sell the same way. The New York Store will be as much the rage hi week as will be the Floral Hall or the horse-rin?- , 3 The most durable hats, for farmers and working men, can be found at Baker & Mclver 's very cheap. 30 5 To Local Apvectiseri. The following is the remsiiiJer of the address of the Governors to the Pie.-Miient: The riht of anj person to retain authority to compel any portion of the subjects m a measure of military prudence, while it, would greatly promote the military educ-ition of the people." We hail with heartfelt gratitude auJ encouraged hope, the procl.im.ition of the Pie-iiuent issued on the 22d of September, declaring emancipation from their bondage all person held to mm vice or labor a slaves in the rebel State? where rebellion shall last till the Ür?t day of January. To have continued indefinitely the most efficient cause, suoport, and stay of the rebellion would luve been, in our judgment, unj'it to the loyal people whose treasure and live;! ate made a willing sacrifice on the altar of patriotism; would have discriminated against the wife who i? compelled to furieiiier her husband; against the parent w ho is to siu iender h"w child to the hardships, of the camp ai. l Uie perils of battle, and in f ivor ol the rebel monsters who are permitted to retain their alive. It would be a final decision alik against lumur.ily, justice, the rights ami dijrnity of the Government, and against a souinl and wise national policy. The decision of the President to strike at the root of the rebellion will lend new viror to the elForta and new iiteand Lope to the hearts of the people. Cordially tendering to the President our refpecttul assurances of personal and ofiicial conhdence, we tiut and believe that the policy now inaugurated w ill be crow ned with success, and will give speedy and triumphant victories over our enemies and ecure the nation and eople the hlesings and favor of Almighty God. We believe that the blood of the heioes who hive already fallen and who may yet f;ive up the r livs to their country will not have been shed in vain. The splendid valor of our soldiers, their patient endurance, their manly patriotism, and their devotion to duly, demands from us and Jrom all their countrymen the homage of the tincoiet gratitude, and the pledge of our constant reinforcement ai:d eupport.' A just regard to thoe brave men, whom we have contributed to place in the field, and the importance of the duties which may lawfully pertain to us hereafter, has called us into friendly conference, and now, pre suiting to our National Chief Magistrate this conclusion of our deliberations, w e devote our Pelves to our country's service, and we will surround the President in our constant support, trusting that the fidelity and zeal of the loyal States ain people will always assure him that he w ill be constantly sustained in pursuing with vipr this war for the preservation of the national life und the hopes of humanitv. Washington, October 3 The Richmond Whig of September 30, contains the following proceedings in the rebel Senate on the 23ih: Mr. S'mmts of Louisiana submitted the following joint resolution: lieolved, by the Conres of the Confederate States, That a proclamation of Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States of America, issued at the City of Washington iu the jeir lt62, wherein he declare that ou the 1st day of January, 163 all petaons held as slaves within any State or det-ignated parts of a State hereof the people !hall be in reelliou against the United Stales, ehall be henceforth and forever free, is levelel against citizens of the Coufederate States as such, is a gross violation of the ujuges of civilized warfare and an outrage on the rights of prirate property and an invitation to an atrocious fervile war, and therefore thould be held up to the execration of mankind counteracted by such severe retaliatory measures aa in the judgment of the President may bo best calculated to secure its withdrawal or arrest of execution. Mr. PheUn, ol MisMSippi, said he had always been in favor of conducting the war under the black flag. If that flag had been raised at 31anasas a year ago, the war would be over uow.
