J'It will be seen, by our Council proceedings, that the city improvements, are as lively ns at any time before tlie war. A the oidinancea are all paed on the petition of the property owner on the several sheets, it is evidence that bard time have not blighted their energies or their enterprise or rather, that we have no such thing here as hsrd times. Much time was spent in debating the hog law, and several buncoml speeches were m ade. The law, however, stand just as it did. It will be seen that the property owners hive petitioned to have Pcnnsy Ivania street bow Idered from Washington street north to Michigan. Such an improvement will make that one of the finest streets in the world.

rrom Wnsliinlon. WAsmxtiTox, June Ü7. The Times dispatch aavs: (Jen. Jameson, of Maine, just nomenattxl for (Jovetnor by the war Democrats of that State, is still in this city, and very ill. His disease has assumed, within a day or two, a most serious character, and fears have been entertained ol his re covery. It is thought, however, this evening, that he is slightly better, and may again bo able to assume command in the field. (en. Rosccran, placed temporarily iu command of (Jen. Pope's army, is to bo a&dgned permanently to that position. The Tribune correspondent -iyt; There is reason to believe that Secretary Sew ard has received a note from Karl Rüssel "touching (ten. Rutler's woman order. It w ill probably be treated as the note from the same quarter, remonstrating against the atone blockade. Letters from Prince Napoleon, brought by the last steamer, show that he is tili the same devote! friend of the Xorth that he has shown himself to be ever since the rebellion broke out. We understand that i tesolution looking to the expulsion ot Mr. Simmons from his seat in the Senate, on account of his connection with the Schubarth contract, will soon be introduced, probably to-morrow. An order has been issued by the Adjutant (icneral hencelorth prohibiting furloughs to be given to enlisted Mohlierst under any condition whatever. As far as heard from to div at tlie War Dopartment all is quiet in every direction. Information from the Shenandoah valley, received from other than ufheial sources, leads to the belief that Jackson's troops? have not in force returned from the point at which they were last seen. Among other speculations is one that he is repairing damage and preparing to secure the wleat and rye crops of the valley, which are represented to be good. The reports that the enemy is occupying the counties from Maniss is and Strasburg are untrue. There tnty, however, be rebel pickets at settlements heretofore temporarily occupied by our troops.
