I)iatiiiea. Our advices from the Southwest indicate that th rank and tile of our army are dissatisfied with the tactics of the Generals in command. The men want to fight, if fi!.ting is to end the rebellion. They do not desiie the war prolonged indefinitely, merely to enrich cwntrac!ors and glorify the officer in command. They volunteered to restore the Union and maintain the Constitution, and for those objects alone they demand the war to be prosecuted. All other considerations should, in their opinion, sink into insignificance when measured with those. Every truly loyal citizen cannot fail to symp aUiize with our gallant soldiers in this respect. The integrity of the Government was assailed, and an appeal was made by the Administration to defend vnd maintain it. And nobly was this call upon ihe patriotism of the country responded to. The people are actuated by the single purjxise to maintain the Constitution as it is and restore the Union as It was. To secure these objects they aie willing to make any necessary sacrifice of blcodand treasure. Such is the sen. timent ot cine tenths of the army. T.'iey want the wvr to end by honorable mean, within the ahortest pos-ible period. If it is to be through blood they are ready for the sacrifice. The ferful responsibihty of prolonging the war is with the Aum.istiation. It has been voted every man and every oollar it has asked to crush out the rebel lion. If t';e war had been prosecuted for that purpose alone, with no design to interfere with constitutional rights, ere now the flag of the Union would have waved in triumph over every iiuh of American oil. Kvery patriotic citizen Should demand of the Administration a speedy term nation of the war. Ilavinir the means

placed at it disposal to crush out treason where'er i it re irs its head, it is without excuse if it permits j intere-ted parties to procrastinate hostilities until, ' l.ke the locu'ts of Kgypt, they eat up the Mid- j htar.ee oT the people. j Viru of Judge Dougln j

Ha, ha, ha!" "Ye-," said I, larfin in a respectful manner, "but whit lias thi man with the utnbte'.ler to do with the man who took his wife's coffin out of the back winder?" "To be sure,' said Abe, "what was it? I must have got tw o stories mixed together, which puts me in mind of another lit " 'Never mind, your Excellency, I called to congratulate you on your career, which has been an honest ar d a good one unscared and unmov ed by Secesh. and Abolish at the back of you each one of which is a little wuss than the other if possible. Sumner Can't Se It.

Mr. Sumner has at length become alarmed at what he conceives an encroachment upon the Constitution. Edward Stanley, recently nppointed Military Governor of Xorth Carolina, declines to act us Superintendent of Nigger School-, whereupon, Mr. Sumner looks into the Constitution of the United State, to ascertain whether or not the President is authorized to aproint any k'uid ot a Governor for a sovereign State, and, strange as it may appear, Mr. Sumcer confesses tint he cat not find any clause conferring that power on the Piesident. He can't see it. We have heard of the devil quoting scripture when it would serve his purp ise, and Sumner quotes the the Constitutum when it will serve hi. If Stan ley delivers up persons held to service or labor, on the claim of the party to whom Puch service or labor is due, and ignores Nigger Schools, his appointment is clearly unconstitutional. It don't lasjuire a deoi-ionof our Supreme Co art to settle that point. Jl'Ml'S TO HE RlVEALKD. TllLRLOW WltD makes the following announcement in his last letter from ''London: It is now nearly a half century since "Junius Indentitied" was published, and although now, as then, nothing has occurred to impeach the letter in which "Junius" says he is the "sole depository of my own secret, and it will die with me," yet before the present year closes all doubt or question a to the authorship of those letters will lie removed!
