iril .'I HIT 1.-MI', in .'i i,;. Another matter of great importance to the Itwyerin this volume is a ifixsl collection of the sill Jects if all legislation rdiice l"v51. Heretofore, the lawyer In examiniiu our leg'slation mi any given subj.-ct had first to find what was relevant to if in the Revision of 1-2, and then to turn over the pages uf the volumes of Mihpieiit Statutes, to fee how far recent legislation may have repealed or m d'Red the provision contained in thst Revision, and even then he would i.fien feel doubt whether he had found all the legislation on the nulject nf his inquiry. Messrs. Gavin and Ilord have relieved us of all this tn ut le an I doubt. 1 hey hare collected tnirether in consecutive passes all the statutes made Miice ls.ril. on the same subject. Tim, on pa if es 37J to .'!77 of their fir-t volume they have collected all our legislation, now in force, on the subject 01 husband and wife, incliidmif the act of lnfti and three act of l-Ci". And they have followed the :me modeo.co. ocation, in appropriate cotisectuive pages, in regard to all Other topics of legislation. A still ruor valuable feature are the copious and accurate notes contained in the volume in question. This volume includes the Constitution of the United Stute, tinConstitution of Indiana, and several important acts ol Vir giiii.i and statutes of Conress, and a larife portion o our own statutes now in force. The numerous d.-cisions o the Courts on the various provisions contained in these Cotistis tutiun- and statutes are found at the bottom of the appropriate paifes, in the form of neat, brief and accurate note, and reference.. Messrs. Gavin A Ilord seem to have performed this part of their work exceedingly well. It must havecoht them much care ami labor, liy it they have greatly lessened the labor of the practising lawyer, and have well merited his grateful approval. In every respect the volume underreview ishihly redItable to the dillience, accuracy, talents and the taste o Its editors, as well as to the mechanical skill and neatness of its publishers, and it must raise the just expectation 01 the profession, as to th value of the second volume, which we understand will be forthcoming in a few months, and which will contain the code of pleading and practice o i, with subsequent amendments and other statutes. Without any concert w ith the editors or publishers ol the volume in question, the writer of thi article has been induced to compose and publish thislittle review of the book, solely because he believes the editors and publishers deserve hiKh commendation for their Performance. He, therefore, deems it but just to them, without being solicited to it by any one, to publish this notice of the boo;, over his own proper name. DAVID McDONALI). Indianapolis, November 1, 1S60. The first volume is now ready and being delivered to ubscribera. i 11 1 c 1: t 50.
