C10NTAINING THE REVISED STATUTES OF with the amemlmeni. thereto, arid the subsequ-n legislation, with nt'.es atd references . judicial decisions. rDtTrn bt JAMES GAVIN AND OSCAR 0RD. VcJiime 1, Published by iii':iia.m V Dorc.irrY. l.vniA.vxroufe. Judge Invld .McDonnld) one of the most eminent lawyer of the State, volunteered the fullowin. ecommendation of the work: Snrnrs or Imuana, y Gavis k Iloan. Some month? ago, the above named gentlemen issued proposals for publishing, in two volume. octavo of some MM) patres each, al the utatutes of the State passed Mcce 11, with annotations. The first volume of the work is now published ; and the manner of it executiou, both mechanically and editorially, deserves the thanks of the profession. The imperfect manner of publishing our statutes under State authority, ha always been a source of great Inconvenience to the Indiana lawyer. The revision of 1SÖ2, a Wf 11 a the statutes passed since that year, muht almost aswrllhnve been published without any index. Up tc th if time the lawyer has constantly been under the necessity of turning over, leaf by leaf, the volumes o our statutes to fmd any particular enactment. And every one kiiowehow annoying and provoking this is, especially ia the hurry of business a in our Courts. Happily for the profession, the publication under conllcratkn promises a t etter stste of thine in the future. The first volume o Jiessr. Gavin A Hord's work contains an excellent and icpious index, which to every practicing lawyer in the tatc is itst lf worth the money which the volume costs. The volume nnder review contains another excellence ll its patres are supplied with valuable marginal indie, to that a iclaiiee at the margin is sufficient to apprise the ea.lerof the contents of the page. Ano'her matter of great Importance to the Hwyerin thi volume t a eood collection of the subjects of all leic-i-la'ion since . Heretofore, the lawyer in examining our legislation n any given subject had rirt to find what was relevant tolt in the Revision of 1.S52, and then to turn over the pages of the volume of subsequent Statutes, to see how far recent legislation m.y have repealed or m d -fed the provisions contained in that Revision, and even Iben he wiuld often feel doubt whether be hail found all the legislation on the subji-ct of his inquiry. Messrs. Gavin atid ll'-rd have relieved us of all this trouMe nn I doubt. They have rolleeted together in coTisecutirp pa?.all the statutes ma.le since l5l. on the same subject. Thus, on pages 373 t 377 of their first volume they have collected all our legislation, now in force, on the subject o husband and wife, including ihe act f 1SÖ2 and three actof lk")7. And they have followed the same modeftiroocatioti, ia appropriate consecutive pages, in regard to all other topic of legislation. A still more valuable feature are tbe copious atid accurate note contained In tho vo'unie in question. This volume induce the Constitution of tbe United States, tht Constiiution of Indiana, and several important acts ol Virgit.ia and Ulmes of Congtess, at; I a Urge portion o our own statutes now ri f.rce. The numerous devisien o the Courts on the various pnv isbn contained in tliee Constis tntions and statute, are found at the bottom of the appropriate pai;es, in the form f neat, brief and accurate iet. an l references. Hessr. Gavin A Hord eeeni Uhveperfotraed this part of tl.eir work exceedingly well. It must haNecost thmi much care and labor. I'.y it tbeyhav. greatly les nd the labor of the practising lawyer, and have well ra nted his grateful approval. In every n sj-et the volume under review lh:ch!y rrditable to the dilliirei.ee, accuracy, talents and the taste o its ed;torv. as well a to th mechanical skill and neatnest of it pul lisner-, and it must raise the Just expectation ol the pr feson,a to toe value of the Mcnd volume, which we understand will te .-rt hror.nr.it in a few months, and w h th w ill contain the cod- of plea-'it,g an t practice o ls.'.2. with sbsequent art-rvtmti? and other statutes. Without any concert with the ed-.fors or publisher ol the volume in question, the writer of thi anivie ha t-ern Induced to compose and publish this oitie rev n-w of the bix-k, ol. Iv beca ise te bei;vr the e-IvTs a id puMiber deserve hUh ctniendatiofi for their performance. I at once made application to the most skillful physicians in tbe country, but receivins; no assurance from tliem that my hair could apsin be restored, I was forced 'a become reconciled to my fate, until fortunately in the latter part of the year 1H57, your restorative was recommended to me by a druggist, as being the moot reliable Hair Restorative in nse. 1 tried one bottle, and found to my pre at satisfaction that it was producing the deal red effect.
